If you are a defensive player, do you target Rodgers' calf?

"Sweep the leg"..."But Sensei I can beat this guy"..."I don't want him beat!...Out...of commission..."Get 'em a body baggg...yeaaah!"...just kidding though. Hope Rodgers is ready and raring to go. To be da man, you gotta beat da man!

Woooo!

"No defensive player who has an unrestricted path to a QB not named Romo may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction."

Hit him legally, again and again.

Fixed.

Id definitely try to get him off his spot. See how well he moves, but when it comes time to hit him, I'm doing more of a rugby style wrap and roll instead of laying the wood. Anything to hit that calf.

This is what I'd focus on. There are schemes that are dangerous because it can let the QB break contain. These should be open to us and we should see how he runs. We may be able to get away with stuff we wouldn't otherwise in general.

Target as in trying to make him move as much as possible. I doubt they'll take cheap shots.

But hey, I'm not campaigning for human being of the year here. If they do cheap shot him out of the game, so be it. This is football. It supposed to be a violent sport. People love to watch past footage of the golden era and salute all those guys for doing the exact same type of things. If a relic was talking about how they were purposely hitting the opposing QB because they knew he was already hurt, nobody would have a problem with it. We'd even admire the manliness of that era. Do it today and it becomes the worst thing in the world.

It's a man's game. It's a war. Don't worry about a few casualties. Worry about adding some more hardware to that glorious logo. By any means necessary.

I'm shocked and saddened that this is an actual discussion on a cowboys message board.

I'm sure you'd be up in arms if they made post about specifically jumping and targeting romo's back.

"instead of just tackling romo should they just jump and lean on him to break his back?"

If there is a weakness, target it for sure. Holly calf, tackle him low and also force him to move if possible. Nothing cheap but physical for sure.

Make him move. One wrong movement and he will tweak it. Calves take a while to fully heal..especially in the cold.

If you know your opponent has a weakness, you attack it. Nothing dirty. Just get some early pressure on him, make him scramble to test the ankle out and the hits will come. I won't shed one tear if Rodgers is knocked out of the game, but let's keep it clean.

i concur. you attack weaknesses...and personal injuries count as such.

A dirty play could get a player suspended and is not necessary. Clean hits and such, hell yes. Bring the pressure. And if in sacking Rodgers or delivering a big hit on him, a player makes sure to include the leg, well that's football.

The point is this does happen. Players do this. They have since injuries were made public. We're not taking ending careers.

The 10 to 15 degree temperature will be targeting his calf. As a fan I hope our players don't. There is a fine line between taking advantage of a weakness and playing like a Lion.

You can be the better team and still lose. Idc how they do it, just win. If it takes putting rodgers out, that's fine.it.

Maybe they should just poke him in the eye too, it will be a lot harder for him to find Jordy Nelson downfield with only one good eye.

This
No dirty play, just physical

If under center, Rodger's left leg - the one in question - is his push-off leg. So just the act of dropping back will put some strain on the leg if it is weaker than advertised.

The real way to get to him is not target the leg for a hit, but make him run. Get him off his comfort spot and force him to avoid a pass rush. Make him find a soft spot outside of the pocket to launch his throws. Which means race to the spot to beat the defense there and have time to set up.

This, by far, will put more pressure on the leg to withstand the rigors of the game.

But the idea of targeting his leg in some act like we would see from Suh is despicable and has no place on this team, or perhaps even in this fan base.

More than hit him, make him run. Again and again.

Yep. Plant and run. Over and over again in that cold weather. Inside pressure will be key.

Do you target rodgers calf?

I would. It would definitely be in my mind when tackling him, at the bottom of a pile, whatever the situation may be. I'm not saying do anything that could draw a flag, but between the whistles, go after it. This is nothing mew, guys have been going for romo's back. It's our turn, stakes are too high not to test that calf.

You're assuming anyone will get to him, period.
