I wouldn't yet, if the first day of practice they put him as the starter over me, I might ask for one then.

Geez, injuries do happen.

You need 6 guys that can start.

Berny could be the one that is released before the start of the season... that would save some cap space.

For all those saying Collins at RT I don't think it will or should happen yet. Let him start at LG and learn the entire playbook and get comfortable and then give him reps at RT. I still think Free has proven he can play at a very high level. Collins will make a great LG and it would be easiest to learn the spot next to the spot he played last season already knowing what the left tackles responsibilities are. Either way we got a steal.

Probably not. For Leary, he has to look out for himself. But, I really don't know what he's got going for him in the market with his knee. I actually think he was very good last year. But if I were him, I would just keep playing hard and let everything sort itself out. Don't forget, Dallas gave Leary a contract well above the UDFA contract....essentially giving him a chance that Collins got.

I agree. OT is tough for any rookie. Can't remember the last one who excelled as a rookie. Even Tyron was pretty mediocre.

Free took a discount to stay here and Parnell is younger and he did show potential. Both of those facts had more to do with Parnell making more money, not because Parnell is the better player.

LOL @ Leary demanding anything.

Really
It's not like teams were lined up for him when he came out
Don't see him having any real trade value
He is a good player who still has the same knee issues he had when he came out
He certainly is in no position to be demanding anything
If he doesn't like the situation you do your job and leave when your contract is up

I was thinking about this. If Chaz Green looks good in camp and the preseason, maybe you peddle Leary for a pick.

Its a nice thought, but it's good to have depth on the OL especially at his price. If the pick isn't 4th or higher, I wouldn't even consider.

Did Bernie demand a trade when Leary took his spot?

We aren't talking about a pro bowler or a contract. He competes like everyone else under contract.

So the guy who manhandled the defensive player of the year should be worried about his job?

Hell NO! I get to the 2015 Superbowl; get my ring and worry about a trade after.

The biggest reason why Parnell made more $ is because he got to the open market.

Free would be nice trade piece to someone like the rams that has a hole at tackle but the new deal is prohibitive.

Keep in mind that before the draft our primary backups were Bernadeau and guys with limited upside like Wetzel and Weems. I remember trying to predict who would make the team and I couldn't figure more than the starters and Mack.

After the draft you have Green and perhaps Gibson to the mix but even then you only have 8 and I don't know that we have carried less than 9 OL. We were carrying Hills and Hawkins much of last year and those are PS material in my eyes as opposed to someone that could actually contribute.

Now we have the starters from last year plus Bernadeau Collins, and Green. That is only 8 linemen and it's not unheard to carry two more. We will carry at least 9. Starters have competition. Backups Gibson, Wetzel, Weems, et al will have fierce competition for those last couple of spots. Listening to Cowboys coaches talking about how competition helps them coach, it has to be a dream come true for the staff.

I get that Leary and Bernadeau are somewhat redundant as backups but Free is not going ot be ready possibly at all until TC. Collins will likely get those snaps.
