If you could get any one running back to run behind our line, who would it be?

I wouldn't pick a back from decades ago because the game has changed and the size and speed of defensive players is greater than it was 20 plus years ago. If I'm going to pick a back I'm going to pick one like Peterson who's proven they can get it done in todays game. I'm certainly not saying Emmitt, Sanders or Payton couldn't get it done today but they did play in a different era under some different rules and defensive players weren't as big and fast as we see today.

Bo Jackson would destroy the modern NFL defenses.

I am not sure if we played this game already but if you could choose any one past/present who would you go with? My guy would actually be Terrell Davis. I think he would fit perfectly as most would but his running style from his best years would be a pleasure to watch behind this line.

John Riggins.

Yeah, Bo Jackson would have been just as effective today as he was during his era wish we could have seen more of him.

Sure, but since Bo Jackson has been mentioned multiple times in this thread and Sweetness has only been mentioned once, I feel like my list is justified.

Sweetness has been mentioned twice by name and with a video. Bo Jackson and Adrian Peterson have come up a number of times because they had/have the speed, size and power to play in any era. Your list is based off how Emmitt, Sanders and Payton played during their era's. I wouldn't pick Sanders because he had to run around defenders he couldn't run through them and he had a lot of negative carries that had him out of the lineup many times in goal line situations. I also question his passion for the game not much fire in him. Neither Payton or Emmitt had great speed.

I feel Peterson and Jackson were the total package but am choosing Peterson based on his dominance in todays game and he's been dominant playing on teams with no QB. Defenses are geared to stop him every week and he still produces despite what was a poor QB situation and not having the "dominant" OL's Emmitt played behind. It's all based on ones opinion.

He wouldn't have the size to play near as effectively in todays game as he did back in the 70's and early 80's. His size was a concern back then which is why Landry feared ridding him too much. Although Dorsett had great speed Peterson's 4.38 isn't that far behind Dorsett's best of 4.30. I would take AD any day over Dorsett. I loved Dorsett growing up but he would be well down the list of backs I would pick to run behind the Cowboys current OL. It's a different game today with the size and speed of defensive players. You need a back today who can run through, around and by defenders and no back during this era has done that better than Peterson.

Because Murray lacks vision and fumbles.

If I can have any RB of all time give me the total package.

1845 reason why your vision comment is incorrect. Lost 3 fumbles in the regular season last year isn't drastic and correctable. When Romo was tossing tons of picks in double digits, funny how that was correctable..

Did Romo throw tons of picks in double digits last year?

I am shocked Hershel Walker has only been mentioned once.

Walker was a north/south runner with no wiggle who only had two 1000 yard seasons in a 13 year NFL career. He had one great season with the Cowboys and although he was a terrific player he was better in college than he was in the NFL.

Obviously not. But that wasn't the point. This is not a shot at Romo, it is a comparison about how fans have pet cats they "allow" more leeway than others. Murray had three lost fumbles last year. And somehow that overrides 1845 yards. The rest of the argument about meat on the bone is a strawman argument becaUse THEY ALL DO IT.
