Obviously not. But that wasn't the point. This is not a shot at Romo, it is a comparison about how fans have pet cats they "allow" more leeway than others.

Some here think everything is a shot at Romo it's all part of an agenda a few have. A couple of weeks ago I said for Romo to win a championship he needs a solid running game and that everyone around him including the defense needs to step up. Naturally someone tried spinning that into taking a shot at him. lol

Wow Chuck Muncie that's really going outside the box. lol He was a very good back who had a good combination of speed and power but he only had a couple of 1000 yard seasons never rushing for more than 1198 yards. If you could have any back in history run behind this OL why a back who wasn't even close to a HOF back?

Bo Jackson and Walt Garrison are on the team but the Tyler Rose is the lead back

Earl is my lead back just because I like watching him spike DB's instead of footballs when he scores a TD

The greatest stiff arm in the history of American football, ever.

Grab 'em by their throat, jerk 'em off their feet, carry 'em 5yds or so then spike 'em for the TD, spike 'em so hard it creates a shockwave that throws the ref into the air..

Never said first choice, just outside the box :)

It is lame repeating the same 5 backs, heh

It's not like Chuck Muncie had a lot of chances when you consider that he was surrounded by quite possibly the greatest collection of receiving talent ever assembled on one team in Winslow, Jefferson, Joiner, and company.

I was in awe watching the Charger's highlights on HBO's Inside the NFL back in the early 80's.

He's the only choice you gave. :) So who would be your first choice? I won't be critical of it, it's all based on opinion.

Muncie was a very good back but he spent the first 5 years of his career in New Orleans on a team that didn't lean on the pass and only had one 1000 yard season. He didn't arrive in San Diego until 1980. He was traded to San Diego due to the Saints tiring of him being late to meetings and practices. He had issues with the Chargers such as cocaine use that ended his career. Muncie was a load but let's be honest if you had the opportunity to add "any" back in the history of the game to play behind this OL would Chuck Muncie be the back you would pick?

For today's standards.......Bo Jackson assuming that he is injury free. I think he could have gone down as the games best. Otherwise, Walter Payton or Emmitt, never liked Sanders.

Oh, omitting AP because he is still playing today.

Bo would be a good choice and I can understand why many are picking Emmitt due to what he brought to the Cowboys in the 90's.

No, but I can entertain myself for hours having fun with "What If" scenarios like that.

The guys who's careers ended with injury, drugs, death, etc, really bad teams, are the most interesting to play out.

Examples that come to mind:
  • John Jefferson (WR) - Amazing WR who went down hill quick because of drugs
  • Sterling Sharpe (WR) Amazing WR who had a career ending injury in his absolute prime
  • Gale Sayers (RB) Barry Sanders like runner who got injured early in his career
  • Archie Manning (QB) What if he played on a good team?
  • Kenny Easley (Safety) Great safety who ran into injury issues
  • Bo Jackson (RB) Struck down by a hip issue
  • Tony Boselli (Tackle) Was unbelievably dominant in the first 5-6 years of his career and then ran into major injury issues
  • Billy Sims (RB) Great runner who was electric but injury prone
  • David Boston (WR) Led the NFL in receiving in his 2nd year and then lets outside issues affect him

With this thread asking if you could pick any back to run behind this OL there isn't going to be any "what if" players I'm picking one who's proven themselves over the long haul in todays game. Although Sayers had a short career he was proven but he played decades ago and Peterson and Jackson were bigger, more powerful and Jackson was clearly faster than Sayers. You mentioned John Jefferson he was arguably the best receiver in the league in 1980 after his 1340 yard 13 TD season. That's the kind of numbers you see today from the top receivers. His first 3 seasons in the league were amazing he had 3 straight 1000 yard seasons and averaged 17.9 a catch in 78 and 79 and 16.3 in 1980.

Over that period he scored 36 TD's with Dan Fouts and air Coryell. It wasn't drugs that caused Jefferson's career to go down hill it was his contract dispute in 1980 after his big 1300 plus yard season. It resulted in him being traded to a Packers team that he didn't fit in well with. He no longer had a HOF QB or a system that focused on him the Packers had a future HOF receiver in James Lofton. I'm sure Jefferson looks back to what might have been had he not forced his way out of San Diego.

Glad you're not the old geezer who I'm sure still follows me around here like an angry old dog that posted a video of himself in his room showing everyone he's a shut in. I wouldn't have to worry about him being in my neck of the woods he probably can't get out of bed. lol I've never attempted to surf I like being on the water with something a shark can't take a bite out of. Why do you relocate so often?
