Oh please. That's just being unreasonable. These guys aren't going to skip a family vacation for a couple of OTAs.

I found an article from last year about a ton of vets missing OTAs before last years' minicamp. Guys were liberally taking advantage of the voluntary aspect of the OTA and the team went on to have a great season.

Missing three days of OTAs aren't going to make or break a guy. I don't care who the player is. I understand folks feel differently because it's Roy, but that's just crazy to think that you put off a family thing, something your coach has excused you from, just so the outside world can think that these three extra days for a six year vet is doing what you need to do to get better.

Every other player under contract was there. So 70 plus other guys either didn't schedule anything or canceled plans that conflicted. But Roy's stuff is apparently more important.

You saw what a teammate said about this. A defensive starter even. I'd be if Mosley asked every player on the D that he'd get a similar response.

Abersonc makes some decent points but at the end of the day, what WoodysGirl is saying (and what I have said all along) in red is the absolute most important thing.

Most have a problem with him missing OTAs because they think it leaves a negative impression.

I think you have to ask yourself, "What is the harm in a veteran missing OTAs"?

I totally disagree. Missing the OTAs makes a negative impression ON HIS TEAMMATES. One guy already called him out on this. I sincerely hope that he gets some lip face to face for this from the rest of the D.

Again, do you really think Roy Williams is going to miraculously gain strong coverage skills by attending some OTAs?

Personally, I just think the guy needs to get his confidence back and that isn't going to happen until he has some success in games that matter.

No, I just think it's indicative of what could be a bigger problem.

More than anyone else, he should realize that he had a sub-par year and should do everything he can to bounce back.

And instead of working on recognition and the mental aspect of his game, I see him throwing a medicine ball around in a pool and talking about his weight or getting stronger.

Personally, I think his problems are mental, not physical.

When it's a 'veteran' who struggled last year and was a disappointment?

I think there's more 'harm' than with someone who had a great year.

Hamlin is also missing the OTA's (with a valid reason).

I don't see people worrying about whether or not he'll struggle as a result.

Why?

Maybe because Hamlin did have a good season and earned his Pro Bowl invitation?
Did TO struggle with drops in 2006? Nod your head up and down.

Did TO miss OTA's last year after struggling with drops in 2006? Nod your head up and down.

Did Romo genereate a lot of negative pub with the bobble to end 2006? Nod your head up and down.

Did Romo miss some OTA's in 2007? Nod your head up and down.

Forgive me if I don't see this as critical. ;)

you left "hypo" off the front of "Critical".

the others players are excuse cause there's no good hate-boner going on as a fad so it doesn't matter.

double standards can really confuse things.

Forgive me if I do.

Last time I checked, voicing an opinion was allowed here. Yes?

Maybe you should nod your head up and down now?

Amazing how it's OK for one side of the fence to blast the other.....

Yes, paint me as a Roy hater because that fits your view. My view is this. All players need to be at OTAs. Plain and simple guys need to be at OTAs practicing with their teammates. You got no contract (e.g., Hamlin), you've got a reason to be gone. You have an injury (e.g., Glenn), so up and do what you can.

I again point to the comments of his teammates who said he should have been there. That's all I need to know.

True.

But Jobberone, just to play Devil's Advocate for a minute here. Do you think that is healthy for someone in the public eye to change their personal life and schedule because that action, which has been excused by the team is deemed inappropriate by the fans and the media?

You start letting the media and fans dictate your personally life, I don't think you will last long.

But as I stated, I would not have gone to the event, but I am not Roy Williams.

It's not for me to decide what Roy does. I am able to cheer and boo only. He knew he was being burned in the media. I guess it would depend on how my teammates felt about it since the coaches excused him. And it could depend on how much the charity needed him. And he could have family celebrating something important, someone marrying, or what. It's Roy's problem.

Ice, do you know where the list of guys who missed last year is?

Was there an article posted?

I ask because I honestly wasn't aware.

In a blatantly insulting manner?

Yes, yes he is.

And I am nodding.

Hos is usually a very knowledgable and respectful moderator and poster.

But when it comes to this subject, things change.

I don't see how it's OK to blast people who share a different opinion.

Ever.

i see, I have to comment on absolutely every thing that happens during the off season for my point to be valid.

tell me, do you have posts defending those absences? because one could say you are being just as hypocritical defending one guy but not another.

no. YOU SAID players must attend OTAs so you can bag on roy now cause he wasn't there. if you show me a post where you bashed ware last year i'll tell you you're being stu... silly.

i just want consistancy. many others were NOT there last year. please show me your rage from LAST YEAR or just say "sorry, i'm being intentionally hypocritical" and i'll move along.

if you pick and choose you're not being unbiased - THATs my point.

i dont give a stack of petrefied hammered moose **** who's at OTAs when the season is still almost 4 months away.

the IGS can fret over today.

Spears, Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, Julius Jones, Jason Ferguson, and Ware missed OTA's last year, and I think there were one or two more.

I'll see if I can find some links.

Grant Thomasson, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.: I am not a Terrell Owens fan by any means. I think he mostly represents what is wrong with today's professional athlete. However, it is becoming more and more evident the media (ESPN) is out to create a story more than to report a story. Funny, I thought the media's job was supposed to be the reverse of that. Near the top of the ESPNews storyline last night was "T.O. misses the team's OTA session." You had to watch the whole segment to learn Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips allowed several, like 30 something players, to skip it and then they made it sound like only T.O. didn't show. At the end in their highlights section they mentioned Terry Glenn not showing but that was it. They didn't mention Roy Williams, DeMarcus Ware, Julius Jones, Jason Ferguson, Marcus Spears or Aaron Glenn all missed some or all of the OTA's this past week. I, for one, am really getting tired of the national media on the whole T.O. issue.
Mickey: Not ever one to be an I-told-you-so, but sure glad you guys are starting to catch on to what's been going on, especially on Internet sites and ESPN. No one around here that has any importance seems to have a problem with any of the players missing these OTA sessions. As I've said, they are not mandatory, and as Wade Phillips has said, as long as the players inform the coaches of when they aren't going to be attending he has no problem with that. This is one of the reasons why Bill Parcells used to close these OTA sessions to the media. He didn't want roll being taken by the media.

Since I completely left you guys hanging yesterday on my "Cowboys breaking news" tease, here it is:

According to eyewitness accounts, the Cowboys' starting wide receivers, Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn, have not attended any of the club's Organized Training Activities sessions this week. But before we dispatch our satellite truck armada to Valley Ranch, let me also say that safety Roy Williams, linebacker DeMarcus Ware, running back Julius Jones and nose tackle Jason Ferguson were also among a group of players who missed at least one of the voluntary sessions.
