On one hand, well, when Tom Joyner asks you to participate you really can't say no.

On the other hand, hey, if Roy were smart he'd just take a mini-cruise like them Vikings did.

On the other hand, I can't see Roy improving his skills at a voluntary camp.

On the other hand, you gotta be awfully dumb (or, maybe clever) to schedule such romps during the voluntary camp season of May-June.

On the other hand . . . see you start running out of hands and then where will you be on a lonely Saturday night?

Bobby Carpenter is running 3rd string right now, and Wade is saying he's learning and getting better and that it's probably his fault he didn't play more last year. Not exactly a throw under the bus type, but it's not hard to see what Wade really thinks about a player once you look past the words and look at the actions behind them.

Has this been affirmed? Was he running with the third team during OTA's?

When he announced the move earlier, I was under the impression that he was being moved to upgrade the backup position, rather than being moved to provide depth as a third teamer.

Even if this is where Roy is, this does not speak to an unbreakable commitment. He isn't featured on the cruise is he? He's not being used to promote the cruise that I can see. Good cause? Sure. But you can support the cause without missing team activities that everyone else on the team (except the guy without a contract) is at.

Depends on the coach and his personal style.

Some coaches will publicly throw you under the bus.

Other coaches will put the PR spin on it in public to the media, but start benching you in certain situations, drafting other players at your position to start phasing you out even more and holding behind closed door meetings with the player.

Wade would just shrug and say "we're fine."
Garrett would have steam coming out of his ears and drag the miscreant into a private room and ream him out before making him run sprints.

That, my friends, is the difference between the two coaches, one of which will be the HC in the very near future if Wade tanks this season.

I have to agree.

The Dallas Cowboys organization excused Roy Williams from the OTA, so that should be enough for everyone.

However, besides the now infamous "Who isn't earning their paycheck" article by JJT, I don't know if Roy Williams has been this heavily scrutinized to the point that the staff has to call special meetings and teammates, former and present making comments vocally.

I personally wouldn't go because of some the reasons you stated, but the most important thing here is that I am not Roy Williams and the guy is a grown man that needs to make decisions for himself.

But if anybody thinks Roy Williams can improve or him having a good seasons depends on him going to the OTAs, I think that is a seriously flawed argument.

I just wanted to point out that just because it is a charity event, it still wouldn't change my opinion on him missing the event.

Sorry I missed this. No, missing the OTA is not going to do break the bank or be the straw that broke the camels back. It didn't help but I doubt RW didn't know this was fuel for the fire. So, despite that he kept his committment anyway. I like that esp when it's for charity. Hard to ride someone's behind when they are doing something for charity. I won't feel too bad for him knowing what he's getting to eat on that boat.

I read somewhere that he went on a cruise with his family. This might've been the one he went on. This particular cruise gets filled pretty early. So his family probably scheduled well in advance so they could take time off to go without even thinking about the OTA schedule.

Has the team said his job is on the line?

Not trying to be a smart alec. I've seen that mentality here, but nothing from the team to indicate it. We made no off season moves at Safety. I just don't think he's on the chopping block like some believe. We're not going to leave ourselves high and dry without a viable SS and FS when we're this close.

Sorry I missed this, too. No, the team has not come out and said RW's job is on the line. And I don't think it is on the line this year. But RW has got to be thinking he isn't so secure as once wasn't even a remote possibility. I do think Roy has to play this year to keep his job as a secure starter. I do see the possibility of them looking for a replacement.

And what I'm saying is that when Roy saw that ALL his teammates would be participating in OTAs he needed to say "sorry family, I can't make this. Hope you understand and have a good time without me."

Not sure if this has been reported but Randy Galloway stated that Roy Williams has been participating in OTAs this week and that he will continue to do this.

True.

But Jobberone, just to play Devil's Advocate for a minute here. Do you think that is healthy for someone in the public eye to change their personal life and schedule because that action, which has been excused by the team is deemed inappropriate by the fans and the media?

You start letting the media and fans dictate your personally life, I don't think you will last long.

But as I stated, I would not have gone to the event, but I am not Roy Williams.

Oh please. That's just being unreasonable. These guys aren't going to skip a family vacation for a couple of OTAs.

I found an article from last year about a ton of vets missing OTAs before last years' minicamp. Guys were liberally taking advantage of the voluntary aspect of the OTA and the team went on to have a great season.

Missing three days of OTAs aren't going to make or break a guy. I don't care who the player is. I understand folks feel differently because it's Roy, but that's just crazy to think that you put off a family thing, something your coach has excused you from, just so the outside world can think that these three extra days for a six year vet is doing what you need to do to get better.

:hammer:

Abersonc makes some decent points but at the end of the day, what WoodysGirl is saying (and what I have said all along) in red is the absolute most important thing.

Most have a problem with him missing OTAs because they think it leaves a negative impression.

I think you have to ask yourself, "What is the harm in a veteran missing OTAs"?

When it's a 'veteran' who struggled last year and was a disappointment?

I think there's more 'harm' than with someone who had a great year.

Hamlin is also missing the OTA's (with a valid reason).

I don't see people worrying about whether or not he'll struggle as a result.

Why?

Maybe because Hamlin did have a good season and earned his Pro Bowl invitation?

A player like Zach would have put off his family vacation, not so the "outside world" would think any differently.

Thomas wants to be the best he can be because he knows three days of OTAs' could actually end up being the difference on any given play during the season. Attention to detail everytime you get a chance is what makes a Pro. 13 months out of the year and 14 on leap year. Ask Braylon Edwards. :)

Again, do you really think Roy Williams is going to miraculously gain strong coverage skills by attending some OTAs?

Personally, I just think the guy needs to get his confidence back and that isn't going to happen until he has some success in games that matter.
