Just a comment or two about the Bears comparison...
It's not quite fair, because Orton is doing just enuff to not get them beat, but he's certainly not putting it on his shoulders and carrying them. That's why there's a huge debate about whether he'll remain the starter after Grossman comes completely back...
Also, as somebody mentioned before, the Bears D and running game are a huge assist to their young quarterback. He just has to do enuff so they don't lose. His stats today: 6/17 68 yds.
If we're talking about doing the same thing for Henson last year, we didn't have that. Cowboys had neither a strong running game nor as good a D as they have. I imagine to make that comparison work, then arguing about how it would affect Henson playing THIS or next year and NOT last year would be a better comparison...
It's the same type of mentality taken w/Ben R.
The pieces around him are what's helping him... No way the pieces we had last year could've helped any QB and our record reflects that...
I'm sorry, but I completely disagree.
Thomas Jones or Julius Jones?
Can you name the Bears TE?
What about their top 2 WRs?
That is the Bears this year mind you. A 9-3 team. They aren't some kind of juggernaut offense and Orton's just an insignificant piece.
They have a very good defense and they win more because of that defense than their offense. I don't deny that. Same is true of Ben R. to a degree though he has better weapons.
The point is they aren't being "ruined." No player is "ruined." Not even a guy like David Carr who is little more than a speed bump at times. If he never makes it in Houston he could still be valuable as a backup to someone else down the line. maybe even as a starter on a better team.
The only guy I've ever heard of who came from nowhere to set this league on fire was Kurt Warner. Everyone else came from somewhere where they earned their stripes.
If our young guys can't cut it, let's at least find out and quit wondering.
