I'm not letting this coaching staff off the hook just because we won

Don't talk about the bad without mentioning the good.

4th and 1 at the Commanders 30... I expected Dan Bailey to come trotting out. Instead, we go for it AND go playaction... how's that for vanilla? Great play by Dak to move the chains, and we scored a TD on the drive.

And the notion that all we did on 1st down was run the ball is complete nonsense. By my count, we ran 30 plays on 1st down... 17 runs, 13 passes.

That was good.. We found a play that confused the defense and spammed it. There are a lot more plays like the bootleg that we could use against these 8 and 9 man fronts.

I'll take that defensive performance every time. The talent is not there. Plain and simple. I'm not going to blame Marinelli for that. Dig a little deeper.

Guys running wide open is not Marinellis fault?

It doesn't take talent to not bust your coverage.

I can think of 1 busted coverage on the drive that ended with a Barry Church INT. They made several stops today even when given short fields bc of Zeke fumble and the onside kick. Considering the talent we trotted out there, it's wasnt that bad.

So what are all the plays when the CB isn't within 10 yards almost. There was a catch that I literally didn't see one of our defenders on the screen.

Maybe he didn't want to get beat over the top? How would I know without the benefit of watching the tape or actually knowing what plays you're talking about? Generally speaking, they did their jobs. They got a big takeaway and they made big stops and held to field goals. They don't have talent. It's that simple. They just need to be opportunistic. And they were today.

At least that admitted by their actions, that they actually needed to get the ball to Dez and be a little more creative, contrary to what the Homers have been claiming about play-calling..

Does any team have the requisite amount of talent? Eventually coaching matters.

It was better. Not good but better. The playbook was opened up a bit. Still not stretching the defense but they got a little more innovative. The onside kick is a good choice with the element of surprise and a good taking of a chance. Less conservative on offense. Zeke was better other than ball protection thought that one was a very good play by the punching defender. The defense seems to be bending but not breaking. Two games and they aren't giving up a ton of points. Offense isn't having to outscore opponents. Dak looks good and I hope they unleash his arm soon. Heck if nothing else just toss a couple of long ones just to put the thought in the DC's head that they might go long. Can they open it up a little more next game and make a steady progression to a spot where they get played more even up?

The onside kick will be forgotten since we won.

But it was a pivotal play in terms of momentum that put the D on the spot.

Thankfully, they responded.

All in all, in terms of posterity, this will not be a game you look back at and say, wow, we turned a corner.

It is more like, we really won?
So true and why would you try an onside kick when your defense cant stop anyone

Kirk Cousins was the defensive MVP today. Cowboys are going to have to put up 27+ points per game to even have a shot at winning games this year. I don't think Maranelli is all to blame, he doesn't decide who to draft and and what veterans to sign. I'm sure he has input but we all know who puts the pen to the paper in the end....

If Cousins doesnt throw a god awful pick the mood around here might be slightly darker.

That is life in the NFL, Ifs, buts and walnuts.

He did throw the pick, last week Williams did not get out of bounds to give us a chance. It doesn't change reality, it just is what happens.

I had no problem with the onside kick. Unexpected onside kicks work 80% of the time in the NFL. Bailey just didn't execute.

I think we haven't gone deep that much because the TE's and Free aren't blocking long enough.

Today I would have like to have seen the screen play a couple more times and stop trying to beat Breeland on a fade pass in the end zone. He could stop those.

Might want to put Green in as an extra tackle and see if we can get the outside zone runs and play action going.

Yeah, Commander fans were pooping bricks about that onside. It was just bad execution by Bailey otherwise that was a gimme.

It was good to see them use a play that was actually giving the defense trouble today with the bootleg but there is still too many problems.

Are we ever going to take advantage of 8 and 9 guys in the box on first down or are we satisfied with just letting them cheat on that play?

Dez completely disappeared again in the 2nd half... Why not give him some quick bubble screens on those first downs where they crowd the box.. He is one broken tackle away from scoring.

We all like the onside kick simply because our defense sucks but I think most of us can acknowledge it wasn't the right thing to do.

I'm happy we won but I still don't like this 50/50 brand of football we played.. Good to see these coaches get a win without Romo. (Against the same team they did it with last year)

Also, I can't help but ask myself why we totally skipped out on defense in free agency when watching these games. Our defense is so bad.

I hate to break this to you, but they really don't care:)

I'm happy.. I can't help but look at the big picture though. I want championships.. Not just a win here and there.

The NFL is a game of attrition. Look how costly that win was for Minnesota tonight. The Colts have lost five cornerbacks. Players dropping everywhere.

Let's see how healthy the Cowboys are in 10 weeks.

That has been the mantra this season that the offense has to outscore the other team, (I've heard 30+, now 27). Newsflash, the opponents have not scored more than 23 yet.
. Nobody knows what to expect from us and that is a good thing.

For our opponents, "Winter is coming" Romo will be back, he will need at least one game to get back into playing shape, he is getting older. Our "Bad boys" will be back, getting Gregory and Lawrence back has to make this defense better.

Church made a great play. We won by 4 and if we would have held them to a FG and had the same game winning drive the outcome would have been the same.

Yeah. That onside kick decision was garrett's jimmy imitation. I thought at that stage of the game it was an unnecessary gamble. And he's fortunate the D held to FG. Had we lost the game by 3 that decision would have been a tough one to swallow.

On the flip side, I liked that Rod brought more pressure although we didn't get home with it.

Troubling that the secondary seemed very confused at times allowing a lot of dudes to run free.

Coaches can't win win some of you guys...you can't have it both ways...the onside kick was a great call..blame bailey for poor execution

Don't like 50-50 games? Not much you can do about it, bc we have one of the least talented defenses in the league
