Twitter: Interesting Dez Bryant tweet

Dez Bryant ‏@DezBryant 9s
I would rather you say I don't want to pay you what you deserve instead of saying I'm not a top 5 wr in this league lol so disrespectful

*Still scratching my head* I guess since I'm not in the meetings with Stephen/Jerry and the agent, I'm rather lost. Not even going to try and read between the lines.

Shouldn't have tweeted that. Hopefully it's some bull media guy saying it to him and not the organization.

If that is what he's being told, then Dez is exactly right.

The message should be: You are a top 5 receiver in this league and should be paid accordingly. BUT, don't look at the Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald's contracts because those contracts are outliers and the new going rate for a top 5 WR is not quite as high. Instead of Johnson's and Fitzgerald's 16 mill per season, Dez should get between 14 and 15 million per season.

Here is overthecap's take on the Bryant situation and how it compares to Fitzgerald and Johnson:

Based on the fact that this is the Dallas Cowboys, who have gone above and beyond for certain players, I think Bryant should have a compelling case to come in very close to those top two players. Can he reach $16 million? I don’t think that is a possibility. Both Johnson and Fitzgerald had their teams over a barrel in regards to salary cap charges and contract structures which helped get them the deals they received. Bryant is by no means an albatross on the Cowboys salary cap right now and Dallas is probably fluid enough with the cap to be able to threaten back to back franchise tags, which would leave him somewhere between $28 and $29 million in earnings over a two year period..

I think the challenge here should come with designing the 1A tier that is lacking. How much above the second tier average of $11.79 million makes Bryant happy while also being acceptable to the Cowboys? I would think the range here would be $14.7 to $15.3 million a season. I think there is also a point to be made here that Johnson’ five year contract value works out to $15.6 million a season, so coming in close to $15 million is really not that far off from true top of the market pricing.

I think Dez is a top 5 caliber WR but I also hope Dallas gets back to their old ways like when Irvin wanted Jerry Rice money, Jones told Mike to put up Rice numbers and he would get it and Mike did and Jerry paid as such, he did the same with Emmitt when Emmitt wanted Barry Sanders money.

This just seems odd considering everything he's been saying about his contract up to this point that he would publicly tweet about it in this manner. Doesn't seem like something he would do, like someone else mentioned this sounds more like a response to a negative article or tweet that he got. hope that's the case anyway.

I got the molotov on deck Jerruh..

His twitter bio used to say "Cowboy for life" which is now gone...

Think this'll make it to SportsCenter?

I think the real question is whether or not they wait to make this the lead story, or if they decide to interrupt current programming and make it breaking news....lol

Ben Rogers ‏@BenRogers 10m
Traded texts with Dez. His tweet is a reaction this this column, not about actual negotiations: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2143743-should-dallas-cowboys-pay-dez-bryant-like-a-top-5-wide-receiver…

Thats what Ben Rogers says.. The way Dez worded things didn't seem like a response to an article though..

Dez has re-tweeted this, so that's good news. Glad that it looks like nothing to see here. That's what you get for reading Bleacher Report Dez!

I doubt organization would say that to dez. Happy it was some column.
