Just a fact…..having 3 QBs on rookie contracts in the final 4 this season is a complete anomaly in the NFL.
Look back at the past 4-5 years, there’s never been more than 1 Qb on his rookie contract in the final 4, and those have been very special QBs, not guys like Hurts and Purdy.

You wanna be sick?

Mahomes cap hit next year is 46 million.
Dak's cap hit next year is 49 million.

Mahomes cap hit in 2024 is 44 million.
Dak's cap hit in 2024 is 52 million.
Mahomes with Chiefs will be playing in a fifth straight conference championship game come Sunday.

Prescott with Cowboys have yet to play in their first.

Jerry will fix that. He will restructure Dak's 2023 salary into a signing bonus and make him a $100M man in 2024.

This is the Tickets way or saying Dak isn't the guy without ruining their relationship with the Cowboys.
This particular cap fact has been talked about since before Dak. It was brought up again at his contract time and is now being brought up again. It was a terrible contract. The Jonesboys failed so hard in that negotiation.

Whether they think Dak is the guy or not, it's an interesting tidbit. It might or might not have been their meaning. A lot of people are waking up to the fact that Dak can't get it done. I regret defending him before.

Since we got one game closer (wildcard win -- first time since 2018-19 posrseason, I give Prescott '23 and '24 to help get his team over the playoff wall into the NFCCG.

The Cowboys top 5 cap hits in 2023 are:
Dak - $49.13 million
DLaw: - $26 million
Zack Martin - $19.9 million
Tyron Smith - $17.6 million
Zeke - $16.7 million

That's $129.3 million on 5 players with a projected $220 million CAP. Of those 5 only 1 is earning his salary, Zack Martin. Maybe DLaw too considering he was playing with a broken bone in his foot all season. But $26 million is still a lot for a DE with only 6.5 sacks.

I hate to say it but the Cowboys may be forced to move one from Zeke and Tyron. Designating both as June 1 cuts saves them $24 million. Cutting them sooner saves $14 million. Tyron is due over $13 million in salary. Zeke is due $10.9 million. The rest of their CAP hits is pro-rated bonuses that they Cowboys cannot avoid.

I think Jerry will extend Dak and restructure his deal to lower his CAP. Dak is due $31 million in salary which can be converted to bonus and spread out over the remaining 3 years of his deal - and further if Jerry and Dak agree to an extension. I think Zeke is sadly done in Dallas unless he is willing to work for league minimum and play second fiddle to whoever the RB1 will be. Tyron can still play but not at the $ level he is due. First, he is misses games every year. second, when he plays he is not the same guy he was 5 years ago. The Cowboys OL was better run blocking when Steele was playing RT. On the other hand, what will Steele look like when he returns.

Honestly, Martin and Tyron deserved the deals they got when they got them. Dak, DLaw and Zeke were never worth the amount Jerry gave them. But get ready because he is going to do the same thing With CeeDee and Diggs.
Great post . Very informative. Well done !!

The highest QB cap percentage to ever win a Super Bowl was Tom Brady at 12%.

The highest percentage to ever make it to the Super Bowl was Peyton Manning at 18%.

Dak makes 22% of our cap.
That is Wrong.

They are basing that on the cap hit of the QB that season, not on his average annual salary.

With that method, Dak was only 9% of the 2022 cap.

The real cost of a player is their annual average, not their cap hit in a specific season. A players cap hit cap be less than half of their AAV. The cap hit in a given year is random.

Payton Manning's AAV was well over 12% in the 2015 season Super Bowl.

Same for Eli in 2011.

Same for Brady in 2014.

Same for Brady in 2020.

I think their should be a QB salary cap within the overall salary cap.

Agree.

It's the average annual cap hit. It's common to shove more or less salary into a given year.

Why would you be sick?

Neither will actually be at that cap hit when the season starts.

Guaranteed.
And if he's not at 49 million when the season starts his cap hit will be even more the year after. At some point the money has to be paid. Unless you think Dak's going to extend his contract? If they restructure to lower the cap hit next year, then the cap hit the next season will be even more excorbinant. It doesn't just go away. When you sign a player to a stupid contract it costs the team as a whole. And there isn't a way out of it, the money will come due.

In both games we had what most teams dream of. We had the ball with over 2 minutes and 3 time outs and a 40 million dollar QB to deliver the win. What happens next is some of the worst QB play and pathetic possessions that you will ever see in your life. A first down seemed all but impossible let alone an actual game winning drive. Dumb dumb should have been running for his life but he has his money now so you can forget about that.
Both San Francisco games were like groundhogs day for Dak.

But I was told on here by these Dak bots that he isn't the highest paid QB anymore and that he was just the next QB up for contract.

Yes just like every restructure we have ever done.

Only becomes an issue if the player has a career threatening injury or is a Carson Wentz.
