And if he's not at 49 million when the season starts his cap hit will be even more the year after. At some point the money has to be paid. Unless you think Dak's going to extend his contract? If they restructure to lower the cap hit next year, then the cap hit the next season will be even more excorbinant. It doesn't just go away. When you sign a player to a stupid contract it costs the team as a whole. And there isn't a way out of it, the money will come due.
Our best bet is to just pay him the 49 next season, and then cut bait if it's the same old same old. That's IF we can't find a trade partner, something that should be explored by our heady GM.

Exactly. Pushing it an even bigger hit down the line is the classic example of taking a mistake and magnifying. It's like when you F up on a credit card and buy sonething dumb. Pay off the credit card and be smarter next time. Don't go buy another big ticket item that got you into trouble in the first place. Lol

Yes they have, do you know watson has something 220+ mil in dead money right now.

People made a big deal bout dak getting 75mil at signing. Watson got 230 mil at signing. His whole contract is basically all guaranteed
How about Cousins? All he ever has had is guaranteed contracts since he left Wash.

The highest QB cap percentage to ever win a Super Bowl was Tom Brady at 12%.

The highest percentage to ever make it to the Super Bowl was Peyton Manning at 18%.

Dak makes 22% of our cap.
Here is another number for you

Mahomes and Brady sleep number was 12 the year they won the SB. Dak will sleep on number 12 all off season

No it becomes an issue when the player isn't worth the contract and you magnify the mistake instead of taking your lumps.
True.

Good thing we don't have that problem.

Idc bout him. I was making a point that qb contracts are just going to keep going up. They're going to keep getting ridiculous

Don't you know? It's the other 78% that aren't getting it done. They really need to step it up.
And don't forget about the mouth breathers insisting he must be surrounded
with more talent. Like there's a blue light special going on, or something... lol

Yes those ints were huge at least 6 pts how many did that dropped int cost us or that whiff on kittle. Or maybe the distrust the coaching had in the kicker which forced them to pivot in a spot that normally would be a FG attempt and ended up costing us our number 1 offensive threat.

its never just 1 thing
Oh this time it was. The whiff although bad didn’t come in the first quarter, it was the fifth when the defense was gassed by lack of production on offense(mainly Dak). Dak could throw or read the defense and this led to multiple three and out, picks, and worse yet of they did get a drive going he threw a pick when we were about to strike. The point is a gassed defense is a representation of the offense inability to produce. Dak sucks dak sucks dak sucks

Well, going forward Prescot doesn't have to worry about being lumped with these two. LOL!!!!!!!!

Yes just like every restructure we have ever done.

Only becomes an issue if the player has a career threatening injury or is a Carson Wentz.
Or if you want to go further than the divisional round of the playoffs.

So, I assume Mahomes would break the record if the Chiefs win?

Do we have an honesty problem here?
Jerry destroyed the QB market giving Dak that contract.
Since then every QB agent uses it as a guideline and demand their QB be paid more as they are better than Dak.
Enough said!

Do not confuse this with defending Dak, because I am not a Dak guy.
But there is a saying.. Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics.

Now every QB who is good will get a contract extension.
Maybe the smart thing to do is draft a QB every year in the first two rounds, and always be ready to move on until you find a franchise guy.
You know if we had a real GM, we could zag vs the rest of the league.

While I agree with the overall premise there is one other caveat to remember that you are leaving out. While the Rams did not have a QB over 22% of their cap their total QB cap hit was around 25% last year because of the dead money they were eating with Goff. That is not to say that the Rams last year are a model going forward only that when trying to judge these things in a world where Tom Brady was kind of skewing the numbers by making it to so many Super Bowls it is hard to say definitively what the best situation is.

I posted around 2 days ago that the last 15-16 QBs were on cheap deals when winning the SB.
There is a good work about that too, it was published around the time when Prescott got his new deal.

Well i got some tough answers from @xwalker and others who tried to argue against this with more than questionable contract numbers. Well they were rather polemic. Not very interressted in new information. Rather only arguing against it.

smh...
