Ireland to Interview with Parcells

Just because Ireland is going to talk, doesn't mean he's gone. I think Jerry could make a sweat deal for him.

Highly unlikely. If Ireland goes, he'll probably take some of his scouts with him. Ireland won't be able to speak for those below him. In the end, it'll be about money and loyalty, not necessarily in that order and I think that'll hold true for Ireland as well.
Well, I think if Ireland agrees to only hire two scouts, he would probably uphold that promise.

If we were smart, we would have been in line when they were dealing Chambers...he'd be starting for us right now with Glenn possibly coming in to play the slot.

I hope I don't seem flippant with the words of others since I only skim read thru much of this thread but has it been pondered as to how his loyalties can be trusted on draft day if he is promised to the Dolphins right after the conclusion of it?

Most professionals are loyal to their reputations -- at this level guys are going to give it 100% regardless.

Good find, but I don't know how you can limit that unless guys are under contract. In that case, when their contract expires, they'd be free to look elsewhere for jobs. Just a guess though.
I think it would be a gentlemen's agreement. It's a small league, and people won't try to S**** each other over because then no one would deal with them again.

All of our top football guys - Ireland, Sparano, and possibly Garrett - are leaving. We'll be left with Jones and Wade Phillips.

Everyone can pretend otherwise, but this is nothing short of disastrous. We'll be back in the toilet inside of 2 years.

FINS INTERVIEW JETS EXEC
The Miami Dolphins have interviewed Jets director of college scouting Joey Clinkscales, apparently for the position of General Manager.
However, the Fins are widely expected to hire Cowboys V.P. of pro and college scouting Jeff Ireland to fill that role. It could be that Clinkscales is under consideration for another position with the team. But if that's the case the Jets could have blocked the interview.

It sounds like they are forcing this "definately" story, theres still hope he'll stay...

I hate it that everyone targets our coaches when we get successful. Go raid the Patriots.

They are? Last I heard they would be interviewed nothing more at this time and none have accepted any jobs thus far. Clearly it is possiable and if so then we deal with it. As for being left with Jones wasn't it Jones who went out and hired Garrett while some scoffed at him for hiring a QB coach who had been doing the job for only 1 season prior to coming to Dallas where he was given the OC job?

Are you being serious? I can't tell.

I said it before Parcells is tight with the jets gm. I wouldnt be suprised if he takes a couple of guys from there and a couple of guys from us, and maybe ol haley in Arizona.

I hope Ireland realizes Parcells will threaten to quit after a couple of seasons and snub him!!

:laugh2:

Actually, that is what I would bank on if I were him.

I hardly think it is a serious interview, but more as a favor to someone Tannenbaum recommended.

Clinkscales is an up and coming candidate, but this is probably done as a courtesy moreso than anything else.

Now that he's got on Bill Parcell's shortlist, he will get more looks from teams that also have front office openings. Or he could take a position in Miami under Ireland.

This really doesn't change the reality that Ireland is undoubtedly gone.

Jerry is falling right back into his habit of making very poor decisions while the team is having success. I have no idea why he can't just chnage his title to Owner/President of Football Operations and hire Ireland as the GM. Jones would still have 100% ultimate authority as the owner of the team.

Another thing, why would you return a favor to Miami and let them talk to Ireland if they are also interested in taking Garrett back after one year? JJ should have told them, if they want Ireland, back off everyone else. If they want to raid the whole staff, I'd fight with everything I could!

Dallas needs to get compensated if Ireland leaves. Dallas has been paying this guy to do their scouting all season, now he is going to take that info with him to the Dolphins. Jerry needs to take the Dolphins to the mat on this one.

I guess Parcell's secret code doesnt apply to him.

If we can keep the scouts intact it is not a big loss. We can probably hire from within and replace Ireland.

It still wouldn't solve the problem that everyone apparently isn't acknowledging.

Jerry Jones will always be the decision maker.

Ireland wants the opportunity:

"No doubt, this was my ambition," Ireland said. "I learned what this job entails at a very young age. I grew up in it. This type of job was something I always aspired to."

He would not get this type of chance in Dallas no matter how much we all imagine that he would.
