Is Deion Sanders overrated?

Putting this out there because I am very curious plus his name came up in the top 3 defender thread.

I say absolutely yes. Great athlete for sure. Elite speed. Great CB but I don’t see him as the best of all time. He was a pure cover guy. Literally avoided tackles and contact. Even joked about it. I think that really hurt his greatness in my opinion. One of the biggest games in his career Irvin abused him plus he got away with a couple pass interference calls. So I say yes. Great player but not the best CB. Not in the discussion in my opinion.

What do you folks say?
I don't even think of Deion Sanders as a Cowboy. He was a hired talent that went to the highest bidder his entire career. He just so happened to spend some time with the Cowboys. He was infamous for making his "business decision" by avoiding tackles. Not in the discussion in my opinion either.

Referring only to one part of this....how you dont think of him as a Cowboy.

Strange for me, because I regard him as the greatest non QB ever to play, and I get that we don't agree there..... but not at all the point.

He is my favorite all time player, but not my all time favorite Cowboy....if that makes any sense at all lol.

I dont regard him as a Cowboy either. He was a hired gun several times over. Glad we had him while we did though.

He was crucial to the last Championship and a lot forget that he was also WR1 for us while Irvin was suspended in 96.

I just posted in another thread, but one of the most interesting chapters of Deion's career may be yet to come. He's the head coach at Jackson State and recently pulled in TWO five-star recruits. I believe there have been zero five-stars who've EVER signed with an HBCU in the history of college football. The guy is building something that D-2 has never seen before. Where that leads, I don't know... but I'm watching it.

Deion was so overrated he single-handedly took us out of the playoff race in 94.

We couldn't beat him, so he joined us.

Deion probably could have been even better as crazy as that sounds. I don't think he truly worked on the craft of being a CB which shows how purely athletic he was. As an example, he never even stretched to get ready because he never saw a cheetah stretch before killing its prey (insert actual quote here). There's some story about him not paying attention in defensive meetings saying he had it; he follows the guy in front of him. He didn't tackle and he avoided contact. He was also a threat to score anytime he was on the field--even on defense. Deion was great and he could have been even better.

I say, let me know which dispensary you shop at and which strand do you smoke because i want to experience what YOU'RE experiencing right now.

All jokes aside, Sanders is by far the best cornerback to have ever played. He literally took away a whole side of a field. You have to had seen him play in person. His speed and fluidity on the field didn't seem like anything a human being was capable of doing.

And yes he wasn't known to lay the wood on guys, but check out the hit he put on Stephen Davis of the (then) Washington Football Team when his manhood was tested. Other than that, name me ONE CB in NFL history who was as feared to return an interception or punt return as Prime Time was. Name me one player in NFL who was as versatile on the field AND pretty damn good in another professional sport like Prime Time.
Another clown comment. With embellishments even. The internet was made for your ilk.

There is one answer and that is unequivocally no. Over a 14 season career he was one of the most feared DB in the NFL. He was a sticky cover guy who played the ball better than most. He also played WR and returned kicks. His accolades are stout. Those complaining that the media/fans overhyped him are just being obtuse. Fans use all kinds of misused phrases like: Lockdown corner, shut down half the field, can't throw a WR open, tight windows, carried the team etc.. So ignore that. There really isn't an argument that he's somehow overrated. It's dumb to latch onto a phrase a fan or media uses to suggest Sanders is overrated.

How is he rated aside from blanket statements?

Are you the post judge? You seriously think you are the guy to judge what is a good or bad post? I asked an honest question and some internet tough guys like you freak out. Can't just move on. The internet was made for losers like you. Stepping back and blowing people up because you can with anonymity. It's pathetic. Share your opinion on the post or not. Pretty simple.

Heck, No!

His lack of ability to tackle is overblown. Tell me the last time a missed tackle by Deion costed the Falcons, 49ers or Cowboys a game? (I don't count his time with the Washington team or the Ravens because he was on his last leg by then.)

Deion is the last shutdown corner, and there won't be another like him in a long time. The term is used loosely nowadays. It has been applied to Darrelle Revis, but Revis wasn't in Deion's league.

Deion Sanders singlehandedly made corner a popular position. I've witnessed it first hand in the hood. Black kids playing skill positions formerly gravitated toward quarterback, running back, and wide receiver. Deion came on the scene, and kids suddenly wanted to play cornerback, including my son.

He was as dynamic at his position as LT and Reggie White were at theirs. And he had the talent to play wide receiver - not to mention he was one of the best special teams players ever.

Overrated? Pulease!

Man what the hell is wrong with people? Ploy? I was interested in what others thought. Yet you have to be a snarky clown. Grow up.

Calm dow bruh , It’s not your fault. We live in a world where click bait is the norm. You’ve been groomed to do it. Hell , I’ve done it. Hot take = more likes or longer thread. Asking if One of the greatest DBs, if not the greatest, is over rated is exactly that.

You must be dumber than a donkey. I clearly stated that I was interested given the top 3 defender posts. I have zero interest in click bait. A pud like you might but I don’t.

Lol. Deion not the best CB ever, Parsons not a superstar. This board in the off-season is ridiculous
Micah kinda is a superstar though. Arguably the best defensive player in the league as a rookie is a huge deal. He has to continue to improve and with the mindset and mentality he's shown so far, I don't really see why he wouldn't. The kids ceiling is astronomical. We got lucky.
