Is it Brock Purdy or the culture?

  • The roster around him
  • Shannahan's special skill of designing schemes to fit QB
  • Purdy
  • Culture

in that order
I guess when I said culture...I was thinking the roster, Shannahan etc.. Meaning....they draft and nurture players based on how they want to win football games. Think back to when they were having "issues" with DeeBo during his contract negotiations...and DeeBo wanted to be utilized a certain way....but Shanhann knew how DeeBo needed to be utilized for them to win. That's because he has good feel for his roster and how he wants to play football to win games.

Was definitely not trying to criticize due to age. My dad is 81. I was simply trying to point out that our culture is established by our owner...who happens to be 81 when I made the statement.
Not trying yeah but did.

I could see the Niners carrying inepto Prescott to at least the NFC Championship game.
Dak Prescott IS the QB of the Dallas Cowboys no matter what any of us thinks. He's your QB, and he's my QB. Just reminding you. If you are a Dallas Cowboys fan, then this is what your reality. Until Jerry does something about it, this is who is OUR QB.

That was NOT fair compensation for our 1st round pick. We should have had their 2nd pick not their 3rd!
And you can't look back and say Fredrick and Williams were good compensation as at the time of the trade know one knew how good our picks would be (nor that Fredrick would have Gullian-Barre syndrome).
Whether there was a QB available or not means nothing.
Jerry is not the trade guru he's cracked up to be!
A 1st and second to move up to 17th? Seems like too much compensation.

They used the franchise tage twice and he became a FA and left. Like I said they didn't want him. Otherwise they would have given him a contract. Washington got nothing in return for him. People thought he would go to SF because of Shanahan but it didn't happen even though Shanahan could have told Lynch bring him in.
Shanahan wanted him lol…..

I think you are looking at this situation too emotionally. I would compare this years San Fran team to Dak’s rookie year. The team was stacked. Romo got hurt and Dak took over and won a lot of games. I think Romo would have brought us a ring with that team, but that is another story.

Mr. Irrelevant is somewhat like Dak. He is being propped up by a superior cast around him. While there is nothing wrong with that, teams are starting What happens if that team gets behind against a strong defensive team, and the pressure is on the QB to win the game?

Dallas built the same type of team a few years ago, with FredBeard, Martin, And Tyron on the line. They could usually run at will. I would say that that team was not as strong on defense as this 9ers version, but our offense was far superior to what the 9ers have now.
This thread was not just in response to yesterday's game. It was more about an organization that has not let losing their 1st and 2nd string QB deter them from their goal...so I was just thinking out loud....."what is it about this organization that let's them have success no matter who is under center"?

He would have never strapped Dak with Cee Dee and the Miracles if he didn't think part of the responsibility of that paycheck was to make guys better.

Listen...I am not saying Jerry does not have a right expect that....but that is NOT how it works in sports. And Jerry has been in this business long enough to understand this. You remember why we traded for Amari in the first place? Because Dak and the team was struggling. And Dak got better once Cooper was in the fold.
And then we let Cooper walk. So...Im really sorry...I do not get the intricacies of your thought process. Not your fault.

IMO its the culture. We've changed coaches, scouts, personnel over the course of almost 3 decades but the results are the same. The common denominator in all of the changes we've made are the Joneses. Yes unfortunately we can't change ownership, but only can hope they change their viewpoints/philosophies. ( Fat chance that happens with jerry being 80+ years old, but im hopeful.)
Bingo!!!!!

The culture SF has built. They have already shown they can plug and play any of these QBs and have success. Alex Smith, Kap, Jimmy G and now Purdy. They have a system in place that works. Their defense is always top of the league, too. That helps. And they have weapons who can make things happen in space. Also have great coaching and a GM with a true vision. None of which we have.

Take Purdy outside of that system and you would see a serious drop off.

Same as when people believed Russell Wilson was a great QB until the system around him vanished and he was made the star.
Good post. I said the same thing...Smith, Kap, Jimmy G...no one would mistake any of them for top 10 QBs in the NFL..so I agree it is more culture (coaching, player acquisition, knowing what type of player they want, managing cap, knowing when to push all their chips to the middle of the table and go for it, knowing what trade would be perfect for what they are trying to do, knowing that they went to a Super Bow and the NFC tile game in back to back years with Jimmy G, but feeling like the Jimmy G needed to be upgraded)

They have a stacked team all over, not a ton of big names but solid and almost no weaknesses other than QB and RB, both of which they may have fixed. It’s sad but had they stuck with Lance, they likely would’ve missed the playoffs entirely. Lance was so bad they are actually lucky he got hurt bc all they needed was a bus driver, which is all Garop has ever been but it was good enough to get to one SB. That’s all they need from Brock and he’s proving very capable. They also play call to put him in position for success, like we did with Dak in 2016. Since we started treating Dak like he’s Peyton Manning, we’ve had very mixed results. So I’d say the system they have out there and coaching is super effective. I just hope their staff gets blown up, hate to see the whiners win any more SBs…
Is Dak being used like Peyton Manning because of his paycheck...or because he has Peyton Manning ability?

I think we both know the answer to that...and that speaks to our culture...where someone is utilized based on how much money they make as opposed to their ability. Look no further than Zeke playing on 1 leg last year...when a totally capable Tony Pollard was ready, willing and had 2 legs!

SF changed ownership over 20 yrs ago, Dallas has not, that’s the big problem.
Then Belichick gifted Garapolo to Shanahan and nearly won a SB. Lynch is a pretty good GM.
I’d say SF franchise is better run

Culture-plug and play. Purdy makes it better, but all three quarterbacks were at some point successful. Dallas needs culture. Can anybody in here say what Dallas does best? Or what we are known for? Toughness-smartness-great schemes? That's why I say. Dak is bad at times but without Dak we're a below .500 team. Dallas coaching adds nothing to this team.IMHO. It was the same way with Romo. Romo or bust. Nothing from the sidelines.

No doubt Brock Purdy has talent. But you have to love what they have built and cultivated in San Francisco. They SHOULD have won a Super Bowl with Jimmy G against the great Patrick Mahomes and that juggernaut in KC. You saw what the 49ers came into Dallas and did last year during the divisional round. And let's not forget they were without Deebo Samuel for a big chunk of the season. If CeeDee Lamb were to go down...would Dallas have been able to stay afloat? And I am not comparing CeeDee to Deebo....Deebo is a flat out beast.

I mean...I don't need to remind anyone that Jimmy G took them to the Super Bowl..the organization said "that was not good enough". They spent a top 5 pick on a QB...he was ineffective and got hurt...and they plug in Mr Irrelevant and don't skip a beat. I said it last year before our playoff game against the 49ers...the game against the 49ers last year was lost before it started...because the guy on their sidelines (kyle shanahann) gives them a decided advantage on gameday against the guy on our sidelines. Coaching (read culture) matters...especially in the postseason. They have that thing built RIGHT in San Fran.

Our culture is so fragile...I don't think we would even DARE draft a QB with Dak in the building. And this is not a bash Dak thread. It's about a REAL football organization versus an entitled entertainment conglomerate where football is one arm of Jerry's empire. I am smiling in admiration at the 49ers approach...for them to look at a guy that took them to a Super Bowl....decide he held them back....draft a guy top 5...then draft a guy in the 7th round because they thought that is what was best for their FOOTBALL team...with no concerns about how it would make there top 5 pick feel....get said 7th rounder ready to play.....IMPRESSIVE!!!!
Hall of Fame worthy post man. Hats off to ya.

With the team and defense San Francisco has I think they could win with a number of QBs.
I don't think they could win with Dak. Purdy has some wheels on him and has scrambled out of trouble and made some big plays that guys like Jimmy G, Cousins or even Dak would get sacked.

Dak isn’t playing well and most fans have lost confidence in him, but if you give him a running game and a solid defense, he could win with that 49ers team. It’s not like he hasn’t been able to scramble out of trouble. He’s still capable of managing a game. It’s when he has to throw a lot and we have no running game that the wheels can come off.

Again.....are we saying SF is immensely talented more so than we are with the 3rd QB? Don't settle that it would be all Dak's fault. They are culturally better with the organization and it reflects in the play.
they have a better top to bottom roster yes. to the point you can plug nearly anyone in there and be competitive / successful. and it’s built on the back of multiple high draft picks from averaging 4 wins for 4 straight seasons and then 6 immediately following the sb year. shanahan is a really good coach, and lynch as gm, but repeatedly drafting high is going to get you some pieces

The 49ers running game with their unique version of Zone Run Blocking.

In one of the 2019 season playoff games, the 49ers won with Jimmy G only completing 6 passes...
