Is it Brock Purdy or the culture?

Shanahan doesn't need an A+ Quarterback to win games. Deebo is a B+ wide receiver and Shanahan makes him look amazing. CeeDee would like Justin Jefferson in that offense. Coaching matters. They do have a lot of talent on that team. Shanahan maximizes that talent.

The term "culture" becomes a catch-all for a bunch of touchy feely nonsense.

Good teams have good players and good coaches.
Fix any shortcomings in those things, and you won't have to worry about "culture".

I don't have the chart in front of me but they had what? The 17th overall pick and traded for the 31st overall pick? Got a 3rd rounder......that value seems fair to me. In order to get compensation you have to have a quarterback that another team wants that they can trade up for. I don't remember a QB being worth trading up for. Either way, they got Fredericks and Terrance Williams for Eric Reid. We might not like how they got there but they got great players for that trade. Well I say great "loosely" when discussing T Will. He was solid early on though.
That was NOT fair compensation for our 1st round pick. We should have had their 2nd pick not their 3rd!
And you can't look back and say Fredrick and Williams were good compensation as at the time of the trade know one knew how good our picks would be (nor that Fredrick would have Gullian-Barre syndrome).
Whether there was a QB available or not means nothing.
Jerry is not the trade guru he's cracked up to be!

They have a stacked team all over, not a ton of big names but solid and almost no weaknesses other than QB and RB, both of which they may have fixed. It’s sad but had they stuck with Lance, they likely would’ve missed the playoffs entirely. Lance was so bad they are actually lucky he got hurt bc all they needed was a bus driver, which is all Garop has ever been but it was good enough to get to one SB. That’s all they need from Brock and he’s proving very capable. They also play call to put him in position for success, like we did with Dak in 2016. Since we started treating Dak like he’s Peyton Manning, we’ve had very mixed results. So I’d say the system they have out there and coaching is super effective. I just hope their staff gets blown up, hate to see the whiners win any more SBs…

Correct, so Dak has 1 playoff appearance since his 1 playoff win back in 2018.....so it's even better Jerry & Co. gave a 4-year $160M contract to that kind of results.
wasted $. did you seehow pure those throws were from lawrence last night in the seconfd half after an awful 1st half? receivers hardly had to move, ball was where it should be.
But Chargers helped, not working the clock after a 27 pt lead. Coach ought to be fired, good place for Payton to go with a stud QB.
That coaching by the chargers reminds me of Mccarthy managing the game, or his lack of it. The good coaches know how to coach with big leads and play against the clock.
On another note I'd like to see Malik Davis used more, he is fresh and Zeke is beat up from prior years, Pollard should get more touches obviously as well.

Makes me nervous that Rex Ryan picked the Cowboys today

Well since we play TB in 2 days...I hope we can beat that AVERAGE team with our 40m guy!

P.S. - I promise that statement is not a shot at Dak...it's more of challenging you on the notion that what the 49ers have done with a 7th rookie is not that impressive because of the teams they've faced.

Cooper Rush beating the Bengals was as impressive as Purdy beating TB. As I mentioned, 49ers have a much better team overall than the Cowboys this year.

Comparing last year's 49ers team to this year's is kind of silly.

The 49ers are a better team and franchise right now. Doesn't mean we couldn't pull an upset and beat them but the reality is that right now they are just better.
That’s because you are like most people in that you are a prisoner of the moment. Which is why everyone is saying the cowboys are awful and they suck and all that bc of the last meaningless game against Washington. And forgetting about the past 17 weeks.

The point of this thread was about SF being a better ran franchise than Dallas. All I was pointing out was I don’t believe that to be specifically true. Because even with the advantage of being better ran, they still barely managed the beat Dallas by only 6 points last season.

When someone speaks in terms of franchise and how well or how poorly ran they may be, I take into account multiple seasons under a certain regime of management and/or coaching staff. Not simply a small 10 week sample to say how well an organization is being ran

you can’t just exclude two of their best players lol. kittle is better than our te’s, mccafrey is better than pollard or zeke. deebo and aiyuk are both very very good. trent williams would be our best lineman (including zack)

then on defense they have three first team all pros and the probable dpoy?
Again.....are we saying SF is immensely talented more so than we are with the 3rd QB? Don't settle that it would be all Dak's fault. They are culturally better with the organization and it reflects in the play.

The distinct difference between the 9ers organization (name any of the well run organizations in the League over the last 27 years) and the Dallas organization is who is the face if the organization. Who sets the culture?

In every other organization it is the head coach who is the face of the organization. The dominant voice of the organization. The culture setter. Andy Reid in KC. Shanahan in San Fran. Siriani in Philly. The Hoodie in New England. Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Harbaugh in Baltimore. They all obviously have good GMs that acquire talent in consultation with the HC, but the culture and tone of the team, the authority base for players is the HC.

We all know that is not true in Dallas. The ownership style is unique and not a successful one IMO. The way Jerry and Stephen overshadow their coach and team is tough to overcome and tough to handle. Interestingly, McCarthy seems to be the best to handle it since Parcells and Chan Gailey. The owner/GM and his VP son need to be less seen and even less heard outside of the building. Period. John Lynch a HOF player with rings of his own isn't as attention seeking and overshadowing as an 80yr old and his son who are playing fantasy football as football men since 1989.

Head coaches and players have come and gone. Yet Dallas has the same results. In any other organization a GM who continously hires the wrong HC and drafts/acquires the wrong players would have been replaced. Blaming everyone else but yourself and lack of accountability permeates the organization. It starts with Jerry and Stephen Jones who blame the HC or blame the players but don't take blame for picking those same individuals. Insanity in its purist form.
I wish I could give this 1000 likes

I think you'll find the title of this thread is Brock Purdy or the culture.
Was Purdy playing against Dallas last year?
So if you take into account multiple seasons under a certain regime, what is you take on Dallas's current regime?

Are you seriously reflecting on last years playoff game and rationalizing the outcome by saying they ONLY beat us by 6 points?

They were the wild card AND the road team. They beat us with much more ease than they won in the wild card round or the NFC title game. That game against us was not nearly as close as the scoreboard indicated. We were over matched. If we had played them 10 times at a neutral site...they would have beaten us 7 out of 10.

Ageism is a poor qualifier. Robert Kraft is 16 months older than Jerry Jones. Can ageism be used as the determining factor for the Patriots' culture?

When should ageism factor into culture. At 71? At 61? I ask because Jones has been what he is each and every decade.

No. The best teams are a reflection of a roster identifying and performing like the quality head coach who leads them. Solidly-willed team culture is not a fragmented combination of the head coach and a narcissistic "me me me" owner.

Single-minded, focused team identify is demonstrated by a roster playing hard, sound, consistent football that their head coach drills into them. This thread refers to the San Francisco 49ers. Anyone know who owns the 49ers? Answer: it's the York family. "Who?" Exactly.

Anyone watch the 49er/Seahawks game yesterday? If you did, did it seem to you if the 49er well-oiled machine was solely a reflection of Kyle Shanahan? Or did you wonder about a product Shanahan and someone you do not even know about interacting together?

Guys on the field play for Mike McCarthy and Jones. Their level of performance is a direct reflection of who they see leading them. This was not the case under Jimmy Johnson. The roster was too defined initially under Barry Switzer. Bill Parcells worked hard to re-establish the essential head coach/players dynamic. Robotic Jason Garrett failed to construct under Jones' shadow. McCarthy's leadership aura has been stronger than Garrett's but not by much.

This franchise's culture is the definition of double-vision. Plays hard. Plays soft. Focused. Unfocused. It is extremely rare witnessing the team string together four quarters of fundamental football within a single game over the past quarter century. Does the team constantly suffer Jekyll/Hyde Syndrome year-after-year because of deficit head coaching alone? Of is their inconsistent level of play partially indicative of who they actually play for?

A split-identify is not a good foundation for team culture.

Was definitely not trying to criticize due to age. My dad is 81. I was simply trying to point out that our culture is established by our owner...who happens to be 81 when I made the statement.

I'm Pro Cowboys. If you can't understand why a Pro-Cowboy fan will get "emotional" when someone criticizes a Cowboys play or applauds another opposing teams player? Then you just simply don't get it.
Romo? Jerry? JG? You never criticize anything Cowboys?

Only stuff you say is allowed I suppose.

How do you know Jerry expects Dak to carry the team? I would be willing to make a small wager ...that by now he knows what Dak can and can;t do. Regardless of the obscene contract.
He would have never strapped Dak with Cee Dee and the Miracles if he didn't think part of the responsibility of that paycheck was to make guys better.

Listen...I am not saying Jerry does not have a right expect that....but that is NOT how it works in sports. And Jerry has been in this business long enough to understand this. You remember why we traded for Amari in the first place? Because Dak and the team was struggling. And Dak got better once Cooper was in the fold.

SMH. You forgot to mention the 49ers are loaded with weapons, veteran players proven in recent playoffs, a very good Oline, excellent receiving weapons, top 3 overall TE, excellent RBs and the #1 overall Defense. That's not including having one of the best coaching staffs in the league. Then you add their easy schedule and super weak division. They SHOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFFS AND DOING WELL since they are one of the top 3 overall loaded and experienced teams.

Totally different for the Cowboys. It's an unfair comparison and expectations. 49ers QBs would not be performing as well with what we've got Dak surrounded with. They are by far better loaded, managed and have recent playoffs experience.

Oh, by the way, the culture here in Dallas is pretty bad. It goes to the players' heads thanks to all of the media and hoopla.
The 9ers have a REAL GM and an outstanding football minded HC. The Cowboys have neither of these two.

49ers were not very good with Lance. They got lucky he got hurt. They will have a tough decision to make next year if Purdy takes them deep into the playoffs. But, I believe they will make the right football decision, unlike Jerry.

Not sure what you are doing….are you asking a question or making a statement? I never said anything about not criticizing players.
Oh...I thought you said this:
"I'm Pro Cowboys. If you can't understand why a Pro-Cowboy fan will get "emotional" when someone criticizes a Cowboys play or applauds another opposing teams player?"

You get "emotional when someone criticizes a Cowboys Play".

You literally JUST SAID IT.

What the....
