Is it Brock Purdy or the culture?

We drafted Dak when we had Romo so I'm sure we'll draft a QB with Dak still on the team. Infact, on one of the Cowboys podcasts, they said they were planning to draft the QB that played for Commodes last week but they took him before us.
I think you should draft a quarterback, every single season. just don’t know what you might come up with.

He had a pretty horrible first half. Most of the throws were behind the receivers off target. He cleaned it up in the second half. If that was Prescott he’d be getting slammed.

You are absolutely right, despite their efforts they haven't had more success than the Cowboys ever since the 90s. But this thread is more about the current culture in either team. It seems like the 49ers are closer to winning it all than this team.

But I stand by what I said in countless other threads. Playoffs are a tournament, it's not necessarily the best team on paper winning it all. Daily performance, luck, momentum, "getting into a rhythm" and all that can erase talent differences easily. What I'm saying is, we "just" need four good days. :)

Amen, I couldn't agree more. There is a world where LVE, and Hankins make a difference. Maybe Rhodes gives us enough, maybe we get after the qb again and find a middle ground between defending the run and a relentless pass rush.

All of these things are more likely than winning 4 straight with Cooper Rush, so before I get slammed by any of the all negative all the time crowd, no one knows.

I dont have ridiculous expectations; I'm just not willing to crown anyone at this point. I'll let it play out and hope for the best. I expect to get past Tampa. I don't have expectations after that.

Good point, already forgot about that. Anyone who's saying he put money on Rush winning four straight is a darn liar! :D

Let’s not forget this also. The Niners were actually terrible and picking in the top ten or top 5 (Bosa) for several years due to how bad they were. If you are picking so many times in the top 10, you are bound to hit on the right one sometimes. That has helped but they also have a good coach and GM so their culture does play into it somewhat.

Purdy will never be what most fans want to call elite. He doesn’t have the arm strength or athletic ability.
But it’s not just the 49ers OL, receivers, run game, and coach. That’s a big part of it, but the kid has character. He moves well in the pocket and doesn’t appear to panic. I was impressed with the way he manipulated the rushers last night with slight movements.

Shanahan did a great job creating success and comfortable situations for the kid when he first took over, and Purdy is playing with great confidence in himself and the system. Could they ride that all the way to the SB? Yes, but it will be interesting to see how the kid reacts the first time he has multiple turnovers, a defense confuses him, and he faces a big deficit and loss. Then the Cinderella story will end and we will see what he really is.

I‘m just impressed that a team who recently gave up a lot to draft Trey Lance still stepped up and drafted another young QB. Even as Mr Irrelevant, that’s just not what we would expect from the Cowboys, and frankly, most fans would probably complain about.

Well, Purdy has 4 INT's on 170 attempts (2.4% int %) with ZERO pick 6 int's.....by way of comparison Dak has 15 int's on 394 attempts (3.8% int %) with 3 pick 6 int's.

Sorry, bro. I disagree.

Kelvin Joseph, Trysten Hill and Jaylon should never have been drafted so high.

Connor Williams and Chido should have been resigned. They got signed by other teams for pretty good (low cost) new contracts that the Cowboys could have done.

Randy Gregory was a joke. Hardly ever played do to being suspended for years due to his drug habit.

D-Law is overpaid.
We essentially said the same thing lol. Feel how you want about Conner and Chido but they have been proven to be good starters in this league. And they were good Cowboys too. Chido just had a few issues in coverage and Conner had the penalties. They were not bad players. D-Law took a paycut.....and made the Pro Bowl....but either way, overpaid or not he's a good football player. If we had 3 more of him on the defensive line i'd feel much better about our chances going to the SB. Gregory got paid big money by the Bronco's. He was a bad pick because he spent most of his career suspended but the talent was there. And hell we should get a nice comp pick for him if i'm not mistaken.

I know we THINK we are suppose to hit on 2nd round picks because its right after the 1st round but some teams don't even hit at 1st rounder's let alone 2nd rounders.

Far too much for me to type but just look at teams 2nd round draft pick history.

I just tried to look at the 49ers 2nd round history....they for some reason never have 2nd rounders lol. I guess they're trading up. Only guys I can find is Aaron Banks from last year and Dante Pettis lol.

Brock Purdy 7th round draft pick 4-year/$3.7M contract 7 career starts (1 season) 1 playoff win

Trevor Lawrence 1st round draft pick 4-year/$36.7M contract 34 career starts (2 seasons) 1 playoff win

Dak Prescott 4th round draft pick 4-year/$160M contract 97 career starts (7 seasons) 1 playoff win

Money well spent Dallas.
Haha nice try.......

When Dak won his first playoff win he was on a 4 Year 2.7 million dollar deal. Come on USArmyVet let's put things in perspective here. Let's don't be lazy.

The 49ers do an excellent job of give Purdy a chance to be successful. First, they protect him in the pocket. Second, they give him easy throws if nothing is open. But at the same time there is no denying the kid is smart. Being smart goes a long way towards success as a QB. Purdy seems to have good pocket awareness, a good idea of where to throw the football, and the savvy to throw it away if there is nothing there.

I love what Jimmy Johnsons said about drafting dumb players. But the QB has got to be the smartest or one of the smartest guys on the field. I am talking about football IQ. If your QB is making a lot of mental mistakes, that is a problem that will hold the entire team back. Right now Purdy is showing as a rookie he makes good decisions. But before we anoint him let's give him a few years. We've seen flash in the pans before.

No doubt Brock Purdy has talent. But you have to love what they have built and cultivated in San Francisco. They SHOULD have won a Super Bowl with Jimmy G against the great Patrick Mahomes and that juggernaut in KC. You saw what the 49ers came into Dallas and did last year during the divisional round. And let's not forget they were without Deebo Samuel for a big chunk of the season. If CeeDee Lamb were to go down...would Dallas have been able to stay afloat? And I am not comparing CeeDee to Deebo....Deebo is a flat out beast.

I mean...I don't need to remind anyone that Jimmy G took them to the Super Bowl..the organization said "that was not good enough". They spent a top 5 pick on a QB...he was ineffective and got hurt...and they plug in Mr Irrelevant and don't skip a beat. I said it last year before our playoff game against the 49ers...the game against the 49ers last year was lost before it started...because the guy on their sidelines (kyle shanahann) gives them a decided advantage on gameday against the guy on our sidelines. Coaching (read culture) matters...especially in the postseason. They have that thing built RIGHT in San Fran.

Our culture is so fragile...I don't think we would even DARE draft a QB with Dak in the building. And this is not a bash Dak thread. It's about a REAL football organization versus an entitled entertainment conglomerate where football is one arm of Jerry's empire. I am smiling in admiration at the 49ers approach...for them to look at a guy that took them to a Super Bowl....decide he held them back....draft a guy top 5...then draft a guy in the 7th round because they thought that is what was best for their FOOTBALL team...with no concerns about how it would make there top 5 pick feel....get said 7th rounder ready to play.....IMPRESSIVE!!!!
The niners don't have Jerry. There's your difference and yes, it's really that simple.

4 games were against playoff teams and 1 was against the team that just curbstomped our starters with their backups. Other 2 were LV and AZ
Seahawks(x2), Cardinals, Raiders, Commanders? Huh? These are good teams to you? I'm so confused. So the Commanders are good because they "curbstomped" our starters? Huh?
