yeah... thats the ticket! first round talent witha 7th round head... Reminds me of when the Boys picked up Aaron Gibson!

I guess you'd rather take your chances on Terry Glenn holding up......

Seriously?

Other than Owens obviously, who would you put on that list as better?

Are you being serious?

Please...even a 75% Glenn is better...Patrick Crayton is alot better...at least Sam Hurd gives you special teams ability in addition to being an ok 4th WR...Miles Austin & Stanback both have more upside than Jones and dont have the bad attitude issues

he just isnt worth dumping somebody to keep

He's there because Mike Tice is there.

Tice is the guy who drafted him in Minnesota.

He's also there because the current coaching staff thinks Jones sux and wants desperately to get anybody on the field other than him

Stash these folks will be crying if he goes somewhere else with a good qb and plays well which chances he will.If T.O. gets hurt we are finished completely.

you can keep telling yourself that all you want

the guys a stiff...he will never be a quality starter in this league...he just isnt quick enough off the line to beat CB's...and despite all this speed everyone claims he has, he almost never shows it on the field during a game..then there's the lousy hands and lazy attitude

Everyone knows what he is...I'd rather take my chances with young guys that have some talent and work hard that havent had a chance to prove themselves yet than a stiff like Jones

I would yeah

and if he doesnt, Jones still isnt going to play much because he isnt better than Crayton and doesnt have as much talent for the position as the young guys we have on the team already...nor does he offer anything on special teams

he'd be a waste of a roster spot

I mentioned earlier that he's in Del Rio's doghouse, presumably due to practice habits.

I would add that what receiver hasn't had 'problems' in Jacksonville lately?

I don't hang everything on Matt Jones.

Dallas would get 'first round' ability at a 6th round price.

And the kid just turned 25 years old.

except he's never had 1st rd ability right? he has certainly never looked like a 1st rd pick...he was tall and ran a surpisingly fast 40 time before the draft, thats it

I doubt the Jags will give up on a young talent who recently changed positions.

Good luck with a "75% Glenn" you're more likely to get 0% Glenn.

Crayton is an OK posession receiver who benefits from the single coverage he gets opposite Owens and Witten - nothing more.

Hurd is an OK 4th receiver - no complaints there.

Austin is a 'receiver' who can't catch. He's had his time to show something and hasn't, time to say goodbye.

Stanback is a complete unknown. For all the Matt Jones bashing you give, he's definitely shown more than Stanback has, which to date is nothing.

If Glenn is done as some (including me) think, this team could use some speed opposite Owens.

Are you suggesting that he be our second receiver??

Then why isn't Jones gone already?

And tell me what receiver has had recent success in Jacksonville?

Didn't you previously say, in this thread, that he was a 4th round or so talent that the Jags reached for? Now he has first round ability?? I don't get it..

More likely third.

I think Glenn is done.

Period.

Crayton had a good season getting single coverage last year and he's earned the #2 spot at this point.

But I think Jones is a better option than Hurd and definitely Austin.

he's been on the field because he was a 1st rd pick, so he has had opportunities whereas Stanback (and even Austin) have not...and Jones has proven he cant play, whereas Stanback and Austin still havent...with reps, either might develop into a decent player...Jones will never be a decent player

Hurd, Austin and Stanback all have the ability to play on special teams too...Jones doesnt...

and you can bash Crayton all you want, but he's been eons a better player than Jones has...despite the "possession" label, he's made as many (if not more) big plays that the "1st rd ability talent Jones" and he has far better route running skills and hands...there's not a GM in this league that would trade Crayton for Matt Jones either

I'll explain.

The Jaguars reached for a player making a total position change because he had first round size and speed. Because of the position change, he was rated as a 3rd or 4th round prospect as it would take him time to develop.

That's their fault.

The guy still has those measurables.

But Dallas would be giving up a late round pick to get him.

Jimmy Smith?

Reggie Williams caught 10 tds and averaged 16/6 yds per catch last yr didnt he, and had 52 cacthes the yr before that? Ernest Wilford has done ok there with decent numbers (better than Jones) and before you bash him, he's one of the reasons Jones hardly sees the field

even Dennis Northcutt caught more passes than Jones did last yr Stash (20 more in fact)

so did Randall Williams and Ed Hervey

Jerry Jones isnt stupid enough to give up a late rd pick for him...I doubt anybody is

What does Jones' most recent game show?

But I'm sure that gets thrown out, right?

The guy is in Del Rio's doghouse but when he got the chance to play, he shined.

Let them. A team's #3 receiver doesn't have to play special teams. Plenty of better kick return options than Austin at this point, that won't save him again.

Who's asking anyone to trade Crayton for Jones?

Crayton had minimal success until Glenn's injury opened up a starting role.

And Crayton sure showed those "hands" and "route-running ability" when it counted, huh?

What receiver has done well recently in Jacksonville?

Oh yeah, none.

But that's all on Jones, right?

He's only trying to make a complete position change....

Hey, cross those fingers that 'Gimpy Glenn' makes it to training camp....

Guess you missed the word recently......

And Smith wasn't exactly developed in Jacksonville anyway, sure not by Del Rio's crew.

Yeah, and Williams had all of 629 yards receiving - Crayton had more as the #2 here. Jones had more TD's than Wilford while being in Del Rio's doghouse. Jones hardly sees the field because Del Rio hates the way the guy practices.

Again, Jones is out of favor in Jacksonville. Del Rio deactivated him for several games last season.

The fact is that none of the receivers are successful there and the team bears some blame for that.

I don't see this guy as the second coming or as like one of the top 3 'trade for' receivers talked about before the draft, but more as taking a chance on a guy with ability at a position of need.
