Simple. Because Dak saw CeeDee taking a more rounded route, thus was forced to try to give CeeDee a chance to catch the pass.
But Stanback's argument is that Dak threw the ball where it was supposed to go (in the flat), but CeeDee didn't run the right route.
If that's true, then the ball should have been an incompletion.
If what Stanback's saying is not true, then Dak was wrong to throw it further up field because the safety was staring him down and had the jump on the ball.
I'm not interested in bashing Dak. We have enough of that around here. I'm just trying to understand Stanback's argument. And it just doesn't sound right.
Again, Stanback argues that CeeDee should have taken the flat route underneath the safety because it was open. Yet, Dak throws the ball to the deeper route.
Dak didn't anticipate his throw. He was sight-reading, which is what his critics ride him for.
I'm not going to call Stanback wrong because he knows more football than I do. But, frankly, his argument doesn't make sense.
