We're fans, sometimes starving for information so much that we are willing to listen in on a scripted, extremely diplomatic descriptions by the HC on what is going on.

Have you ever listened in on a Tom Landry press conference?

Besides, most HC's don't like press conferences, many of them can't stand them.

They think some of the questions are dumb and they don't have the patience or diplomatic skills to deal with it and they get annoyed. They don't like to share information and are always paranoid about giving something away. Sometimes they look at them as wasted time.

I remember more than once when Jason Garrett would get a question and then the media member would give their own theory as the answer to the question, Garrett would smile and just say, yeah, that's what we were thinking. Parcells would just get sarcastic and say some of the funniest things.

Exactly, but Garrett never went 12-5 three years in a row. Garrett didn't get the nickname 8 & 8 for nothing.
As long as we continue to fail in the playoffs the regular season records aren’t going to matter to the fans. Garrett won more playoff games with the Cowboys than McCarthy.

The audacity of fans expecting coaches to speak a certain way in press conferences is astounding and hilarious... lol

"You deserve nothing!"

The best teams the Cowboys have had the past decade were in 2014 and 2016 under Garrett. Those teams showed more fight in the playoffs than the playoff teams we’ve had with fat head.

But it took Garrett 10 years to do it. McCarthy's only been here for 4. And 3 of those 4 years he went 12-5.

It's just HC talk. He will never give you the answer you want. Just a canned answer to get out of the interview. Talking without saying anything. I'd do the same thing.

No coach in their right mind is going to go out and talk crap about newly drafted players are undrafted free agents. What a ridiculous position to take. I get being mad at the robotic speaking but every coach does it it’s a business you’re always trying to recruit players or build young players confidence up, and talking bad on players doesn’t achieve that and it isn’t going to help when recruiting other players to your team either.

Absolutely believe one of Jethro's requirements for a HC after BP is one that will NEVER outshine him in any way

Why would they say that. That is ridiculous. If players heard that, why should they try to improve.
All teams, all coaches say this type of stuff, it is not just Dallas.

Would you want your boss, tell you ... hey you suck at your job, I wish I would have hired someone else....
And if you are a boss, and have that attitude, no one would want to work for you.
I guess you never were a boss or business owner, If a employee sucks or isn’t good at their job you do tell them if you don’t shame on you for putting up with sub par employees and it will not be a problem getting a replacement.

Exactly, what did they expect him to say? Duh!
If you want to keep getting paychecks you don't say something stupid.
How about it is too early to say!!
We have a lot to do before we evaluate new players at all.

There ya go. Ultimately when a coach has to deal with a player or players concerning performance issues, he deals with the player one on one. It would be very stupid and very counter productive to run to the sports writers and bad mouth his player or players to the press and / or TV cameras.

ALL businesses have the same objective, make a profit, doesn’t matter what it is, poor employees are bad for business and destroy work force morale, can tell you never ran one or managed one or you would already know this.

Garrett was the HC for 9 full seasons. The team was a wreck when he became the interim HC in 2010. We were in the process of rebuilding the OL, which became the best in the entire league under Garrett. We had a 12 win season and tied a franchise record with 13 wins in 2016 despite having a rookie QB. We won a couple of playoff games and showed some fight in our playoff losses. Not once did we lay an egg in the playoffs. We were in every game. So far McCarthy has been a failure. We lead the league in penalties practically every season and despite winning 12 games in each of our last three seasons we look uninspired in the playoffs and
fold once we get behind.

I’m certainly not saying Garrett was a better coach but I don’t remember as many butt whippings with him especially in games we were favored in. We showed a lot more fight and resiliency in the playoffs under Garrett. The team doesn’t seem to want to go to battle for McCarthy which has been very evident in the two losses to GB and especially the one in the playoffs. The players knew both games meant a lot especially for McCarthy and they didn’t show up in either game.

Yes, I was both a boss at my job and I also owned a business separately from that job. I have hired and fired people.
As a boss, I had direct input on job evaluations, though was not directly involved if that employee should or should not be retained.

And being a boss or a coach, you do not publicly tell the media or fans or other co-workers. That is done in a closed room. Or in this case the coaches handle what they can do better on the field and in meetings. Not through the media.

Running a team as a business, is fardiffelent than any other business. And coaching players has nothing to do with that.

Have you ran a business? You are telling others it is obvious they have not. I have owned my own business.

a business is a business. You turn out a product to make a profit. The Cowboys do that every year easily.
So by that definition the business is doing fine.
NOW as regards the player coach end of things it is basically meaningless from that point of view. The boys make money winning seasons or losing seasons.
whether your product is respected or not does not matter as long as you can sell enough of it.

so now we are in the place of supposedly where the consumers of the product are ticked off that is is not respectable enough
some like rambo and others are quite happy with selling slop
others are not

Jethro has been and always will be a huckster; a circus carnie. And for thirty years he has been able to draw plenty of rubes in.
No reason for him to change.

as regards MM I laugh at those that think Ginger was as good a coach. MM for all his faults actually got to the top. Ginger NEVER sniffed it. And while one can boast about teams fighting harder for him I say that is nice but in the end what was the result? Ginger never was a HC before Jethro and will never be one again. He could not even make it as an assistant coach or coordinator or even water boy outside of Jethro.
