a business is a business. You turn out a product to make a profit. The Cowboys do that every year easily.
So by that definition the business is doing fine.
NOW as regards the player coach end of things it is basically meaningless from that point of view. The boys make money winning seasons or losing seasons.
whether your product is respected or not does not matter as long as you can sell enough of it.

so now we are in the place of supposedly where the consumers of the product are ticked off that is is not respectable enough
some like rambo and others are quite happy with selling slop
others are not

Jethro has been and always will be a huckster; a circus carnie. And for thirty years he has been able to draw plenty of rubes in.
No reason for him to change.

as regards MM I laugh at those that think Ginger was as good a coach. MM for all his faults actually got to the top. Ginger NEVER sniffed it. And while one can boast about teams fighting harder for him I say that is nice but in the end what was the result? Ginger never was a HC before Jethro and will never be one again. He could not even make it as an assistant coach or coordinator or even water boy outside of Jethro.
Yes Jerry and son wasted 10 years with Garrett as HC. He should have been gone after those three 8-8 win and in seasons.

I think overall MM has done a good job with increasing the talent level. In spite of the lack of FA involvement.
And especially this off-season, going into TC and the regular season. This is MM's greatest challenge, to win by doing nothing, and relying upon rookies from he draft, and from the draft of last year.

The best thing Jerry can do at this point. No contract extensions. Except maybe CeeDee. Then can have basically a clean slate (well as cleanest it has been for a very long time) to (hopefully) make some better decisions.

Running a team as a business, is fardiffelent than any other business. And coaching players has nothing to do with that.

Have you ran a business? You are telling others it is obvious they have not. I have owned my own business.
It’s a production based business no different from any other, profit and success are the onl objective

Yes, I was both a boss at my job and I also owned a business separately from that job. I have hired and fired people.
As a boss, I had direct input on job evaluations, though was not directly involved if that employee should or should not be retained.

And being a boss or a coach, you do not publicly tell the media or fans or other co-workers. That is done in a closed room. Or in this case the coaches handle what they can do better on the field and in meetings. Not through the media.
Behind closed doors first, no change in performance the it’s done in front of others as needed and you know it’s very effective done that way

Dude this is not new, this is not specific to football or Dallas or McCarthy. When you have a high profile job and a reporter asks you a question you put positive spin on things. Whether you are asking a pop star about their latest CD, or asking a politician of his chances of winning the next primary, or asking a film director about his latest film, people are going to give the reporter positive spin. Wouldnt you?

Have you noticed that every interview with Mike McCarthy is as predictable as it is non-illuminating?

See: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...S&cvid=c30a1357579e4bc58fe941fed2841668&ei=15

So, guess what? MM thinks every one of the Cowboys drafted and undrafted players is terrific. He is so impressed with each and every one. Blah, blah, blah.

Football talk has become so predictable a child of ten years can parrot the lines. Hey, coach, what do you need the team to do to get back in the game? Answer: We have to play better defense and score more on offense. Our game plan is great, we have to stick to it.

Hey coach, what do you think of the draft and undrafted class after the first day of minicamp? Answer: I am so impressed, these kids are so great, they bring great enthusiasm, athleticism, skill, speed and superb understanding of the game.

Blah, blah, blah

Total nonsense and BS. Wouldn't it be refreshing if they said, "Well there are some good prospects here and a few who will not make an impact, even on special teams. I wish we had drafted a better player in the rounds they were selected. I think the Eagles and the Giants got much better. We need to get more from the lazy ones that disappointed last year, especially that no-good DT, Mazi Smith. He better get going or he will be shown the door."
Jerry Jones injects everyone with a serum and takes over their brains so they all become company men, good at spinning, all is well, standard answer. It happened to Garrett. It happened to Gaily, Switzer etc.
The only one who the serum didn't work on was Johnson and he fired him.

You either toe the company line else you are gone.

This is the last year of McCarthy. Contract runs out.

Just in general, there are too many interviews and too much media. Everyone from coaches to the individual athletes has been trained to give them nothing because if they do, the social media world will erupt and it will turn into a distraction. There is just no benefit to being honest or self critical in public.

Yes, it would be great to get MM's honest opinion but I know it isn't happening. I just wish everyone would realize that when MM and Jerry and Stephen are talking, they aren't being honest. People should stop quoting them on places like this forum because what they say is spin.

The Cowboys have been doing this the last several years; they praise all of their draft choices and free agents, they like their guys; they are very close to having a championship team; Dak is the QB to take them to the next level; and all within the Cowboys organization have Jerry’s trust.

The football team proceeds to beat up on weak teams, thus creating expectations, but play poorly and inconsistently against the premiere teams leading to an early round loss in the playoffs creating disappointment.

The Jones’ promise the fans after their early exit from the playoffs, they will examine and evaluate their processes and to continue to improve the roster, but of course are barely active during the subsequent FA period…then rinse and repeat.
The Cowboys look like they are getting younger and in position to win double digit games for the 4th year in a row. It looks like the will get bigger at linebacker and in both lines. It looks like they are improved at linebacker and oline.

I don't know. What will any coach say about his rookies? They stink, we messed up taking these guys, oh well???

Not to sound sarcastic but if what McCarthy or anyone else on this team says bothers people so badly then my solution is just don't listen to it. Saves you a lot of frustration and grief.

There are entirely to many posters on this website who can't wait to criticize McCarthy no matter what he does or doesn't do. Maybe the results of this team's failures to find success in the playoffs weren't entirely his fault. I believe poor management had as much to do with those failures as anything else that can be blamed for them. I think that facts exist that he's on the Jones' blacklist for many mistakes when they were just as guilty of, when they much preferred to blame them on McCarthy. It's far more convenient to point fingers toward him than to blame themselves. Overly inflated egos will often find that preferable to admitting incompetence.

Don't forget the poignant "I'll be better" from Fat Mike after the Green Bay disaster.

The main reason they lost to the Packers was the lack of linebackers. They look like they have taken care of the linebackers and have a good shot of improving the oline and also added a good run stopping edge.

Double digit wins puts them in good position to do significant things.
.......except draft in a good position. The only thing worse than being a playoffs failure is turning around and having a bottom 10 draft spot

Hooray,.........we win the regular seasons with consistently one of the easiest schedules in the league........and then face truly strong teams and get bent over.
