He has a no trade clause and no reason to waive that clause
That’s arguable . If the Cowboys had decided they were moving on they could have threatened to bench him if he didn’t accept a trade.

It’s your position we were willing to let him walk without at least pursing options for compensation?

And you believe it’s been Jethro’s intention to let Dak walk without any compensation?
I think it's one of the reasons they are negotiating. They actually should want to sign him without the NTC. That would give them the ability to spend one more year seeing if he can do it and then trade him if not. Even if they somehow come to an agreement, without an NFCCG appearance this year, I think this will still be his last year in Dallas.

I realize many fans are NFCCG or bust but not sure Jethro is?

Maybe not, but I am positive that he doesn't want to see that stupid blank stare ever again so he better ball out, and before the defense pulls their starters, in his next playoff game if he wants a chance at staying beyond this season.

By Dallas wanting a shorter term contract. That tells me they are not sold on him as being able to get it done to go further in the playoffs.
I could live with this option but only with the idea that they would draft a true , bona fide replacement and have him in place when the 3 years are over....... but they won't, and we'll find ourselves in the same dilemma as now and the previous time he was resigned

what would benching him do? Again a full year of no wear and tear wouldn't hurt his FA at all.

As long as there's not a NTC, it really won't matter if they sign him. He would be on a hotter seat with a contract extension and no protection from being traded. If we are 2-5 to start the season, they might even ship him at the trade deadline

And you believe he’d rather sit than agree to a trade?
depends on the trade i would think, benching him is an empty threat in my opinion. I also dont care if Dak stays or goes, i dont really think it matters because the FO will not be changing and thats the root of the 28 year problem.

And why with our situation with this dysfunctional ownership must think outside the box.

I’d agree with the latter. And why there’s less hope starting over.

The compensation is not having that anchor of a contract drag you down into the beep-blue ocean of insolvency.
Then why not just release him if you’re willing not to pursue any compensation?

Too late for that.......if he signs, we will look back at this question and know he was never going to walk. I am 100% confident Stephen and Jerry know exactly what it will take to extend him. By that, I mean Todd France has given them exact or range numbers to get it done.
You guys, there’s no question he’s getting signed. I’m not sure why no one gets this.
