It's time for Zeke to go

Most of us knew it was unlikely we would resign Tony Pollard last off-season. Many of us hoped Derrick Henry would be on the radar because he would certainly require less than Pollard. But those dreams died quickly amidst all the cap lies the Jones boys fed us all off-season.

When it was announced back in the spring that a washed up Ezekiel Elliott was headed back to Big D to “shore up” a depleted RB position, I believed unless a miracle happened, Zeke wouldn‘t finish the season a member of the Dallas Cowboys. After five regular season games, I think his Cinderella story has become a pumpkin.

In five regular season games so far this year, Zeke has 30 carries for 98 yards, 3.2 yards per carry. He also has 6 receptions for 35 yards, less than 6 yards per catch. Combined, Zeke has 36 touches for 133 yards. That’s 3.7 yards per touch. Ouch.

There is zero room in the NFL for a sentimental roster spot. It‘s time to let Zeke go with thanks for all his glory days in Dallas. Those glory days left the building a few years ago. We can find another RB somewhere who has 3.2 yards per carry and has some upside.

It‘s time to say goodbye to Zeke.
Look at the plays, not the stats.

Hated the signing at the time, still hate it. Sentimental signing, as Bob so eloquently put it. Couldn't have worded it any better.

But in Zeke's defense, the only game where the staff did (and was really able) to commit to the run was this past Sunday. Not saying he would've had the game Rico did, or even broke off a 13 yard run, but I know for damn sure he wouldn't have fumbled it at the goal line.

The video with the shoulder pads was really troubling, and hard to watch as a guy that loved Zeke from 2016-2019. Would love to know if he suffered some weird shoulder injury a few games in that he's trying to tough out.

This is the NFL - you can't roster players that have the "Udonis Haslem" role. And besides. Haslem won championships. Love you, Zeke. You're probably the third best Cowboy to ever play the position, but you got your money. Retire with dignity this offseason.

I think the wear and tear of those first 4-5 seasons has just taken it's toll.

Releasing him and calling up Cook makes sense. See what's there in Cook before the trade deadline (Nov 5).

Zeke can be resigned to the PS if he clears waivers

I think Deuce has potential, but I think Malik Davis or someone else can do more for the team right now (pickings are slim out there)

I can’t completely disagree, but unless and until someone hands the rock to Zeke 20+ times in a game, we’ll never know just how washed he may be. Henry had 10 carries for 27 yards at one point last week. The continuous pounding the defense takes trying to handle a big load like Zeke bears fruit later in the game, but MM simply will not give it to Zeke to see if Zeke can punish the defense. OL play is a factor as well, though we we did run the ball more effectively last week.

Based on his time in New England I have no idea what the Cowboys were thinking .

Zeke actually made Dak...otherwise? That first year does not happen.
I think that is true to a large degree. However, let's not forget the role of that fantastic O-line as well as the contributions of a pro Bowl receiver and future Hall of Fame TE.

This offense had the ability to compensate for a rookie quarterback whose role was essentially get the ball in the hands of playmakers while not making mistakes under elite protection.

I'm not disparaging Dak Prescott; he played his part almost to perfection that season. He made intelligent decisions and took far less risk than he does these days.

Zeke had a great rookie season and probably would have had a good season for any team. However, in that offense, opponent defenses simply couldn't concentrate on the Cowboys running game without Witten and Dez tearing them to shreds.

With that said, there are only 11 RB's in NFL history to have over a thousand carries in the first 48 games of their career. Zeke is 6th on that list.

When you add in their receptions, Zeke is 5th in total touches in first 48 games. Four of the five RB's in front of him experienced a sudden drop in their productivity soon after.

Ricky Williams retired after 5 seasons and then unretired two years later, only to be suspended for substance abuse.

Edgerrin James left the Colts after six seasons but was never the same.

The great Earl Campbell had one thousand-yard season after his first four.

After Eddie George's fifth season, he averaged 3.3 yards. By the time he reached the Cowboys he had nothing left and was replaced by rookie Julius Jones after 8 games.

I didn't expect much from Zeke this season. I was in favor of signing him because there was no one else and because I thought it would be a great story if the Cowboys went all the way with Zeke and Dak being reunited for a season.

However, the Cowboys have someone better, perhaps two even three. The coaches have an obligation to put their best three guys on the field and it could be that Zeke no longer qualifies.

It could very well be that the trio of Dowdle, Cooks, and Luepke offers the best results. That remains to be seen, but I have a hunch it's true.

Dalvin Cooks should be given an audition to determine whether he has anything left. If it is more than Zeke offers, then Zeke should go.

Let me also say that, in order to eliminate the hypocrisy, they should cut Vaughn before they cut Zeke. Someone less "familiar" should
get an opportunity.

Nope because he's the only back in NFL history that can pass block, no other NFL running back is capable of doing so, he is on here to rescue and save his cousin Dak

Another bad post by this guy I never wanted Elliot back and I would not be upset to see him go.
However, he did his job and then some Sunday night.

Zeke should be out of the NFL
On the bright we adjusted and updated our run blocking scheme and if they stick with it we'll be okay!

You could also state Emmitt made Aikman, for that matter so did Michael Irvin and the dominant offensive line and defense during the Super Bowl years. A flawed supporting cast makes an elite quarterback look average, not to imply that Dak is truly elite. I think Dak is above average but not great.

He looks awful. He's gotta go when they bring up Cook. It's not like someone's gonna pick him up, if you're worried about losing hi.

I heard Davis Moore say yesterday that Cook was the backup to Zeke. If Zeke goes down then they will bring in Cook. Until then you won’t see Cook.

IMO I think they should bring back Royce Freeman.
