It's time for Zeke to go

The only real issue I have with Zeke is that the way the Cowboys are using him it seems like it would make more sense to give those snaps to Luepke and free up a roster spot since Zeke doesn't contribute to special teams either. Now it may make more sense to get rid of Vaughn over Zeke, but thats up for debate, I just dont see a point in keeping 4rbs on the roster still. Zeke so far has 108 snaps, 70 of those are for pass plays, and those passing downs seem to be where Luepke can be effective both as a blocker and occasional receiver.

The Zeke vs Rico debate seems to be settled, I think its now Zeke vs Luepke. If Zeke loses out on those snaps there really isnt a need for him other than depth, but you already have a similar veteran player on the practice squad in case of injury.

Which of our two losses are you saying any of these guys would have prevented?
If so then why aren't they preventing their own teams from losing?
I know the Cowboys have at least one win that Zeke played a major part in getting. And really the only reason he has not had a bigger hand in the other two is usage. I acknowledge he's not producing in the backup role as well as he did in the starting slot. Some guys can do that and some can't. It is what it is. But this notion that he's keep this team from unleashing the next Jim Brown on the league is vastly overplayed. If these kids were so amazing they'd be tearing it up for their current teams not sitting on the practice squad.

And I will always come back to the fact that this team does not appear to WANT Zeke to excel. The last two games he has had nice 5+ yard runs on his first two totes then sent back to the bench for a quarter and a half. He aint built for that. And in that sense you are correct.. that kind of usage pattern is far better suited for a younger back. An older guy standing around on the sidelines that long just stiffens up.
Ronnie I’m not saying any of those guys I mentioned on other teams’ practice squads are going to revolutionize this team or save the season. Not the point of this thread. The point is we should never hold onto any player just because we like what he did in the past.

Zeke has been a great Cowboy and worthy of respect. But he’s literally giving us almost nothing. The young RBs I mentioned from other teams’ practice squads earlier are all younger and fresher than Zeke. And could possibly help more. To me that’s worth a look if it makes the team better.

This isn’t a “dis Zeke” thread, or a thread saying “cutting Zeke is going to win games for us“ thread. It is a “Let’s make the team better” thread. And at this point I don’t see Ezekiel Elliott as helping this team.

I can't disagree that younger fresher guys might give this team something Zeke no longer can. The question is whether that "thing" will win you more games. The team won 12 games in 2021 with Zeke playing 11 games on one leg.. Then won 12 games with Zeke missing 2 games then playing 8 games on one leg. Then won 12 games with Zeke on the Patriots. Point being, this team has shown it can win games with or without Zeke. They just do it differently with him than without him. And I prefer the way it looked WITH him (when healthy) than without him.

I guess the real crux of the matter for me is whether Zeke can do more with 20 carries than Rico can. I personally think if you give Zeke those 20 carries Rico got against Pittsburgh you get more yards and probably at least one more rushing TD. You also get 3-5 Steeler defenders having to leave the game. But the coaching staff doesn't appear to agree. Maybe they don't like what they see in practice. Maybe Zeke is banged up and they don't want to talk about it. I honestly don't know but to me if we run Zeke 15-20 times using that power blocking scheme we went to in the second half against the Steelers we end up with a lot more than 102 yards as a team. And we establish a legit running game that teams actually have to prepare for. But I have accepted that this team doesn't want to use Zeke and they don't appear to feel like they need to tell us why. Which they don't. I hope they have at least given him the respect to tell HIM why.

Most of us knew it was unlikely we would resign Tony Pollard last off-season. Many of us hoped Derrick Henry would be on the radar because he would certainly require less than Pollard. But those dreams died quickly amidst all the cap lies the Jones boys fed us all off-season.

When it was announced back in the spring that a washed up Ezekiel Elliott was headed back to Big D to “shore up” a depleted RB position, I believed unless a miracle happened, Zeke wouldn‘t finish the season a member of the Dallas Cowboys. After five regular season games, I think his Cinderella story has become a pumpkin.

In five regular season games so far this year, Zeke has 30 carries for 98 yards, 3.2 yards per carry. He also has 6 receptions for 35 yards, less than 6 yards per catch. Combined, Zeke has 36 touches for 133 yards. That’s 3.7 yards per touch. Ouch.

There is zero room in the NFL for a sentimental roster spot. It‘s time to let Zeke go with thanks for all his glory days in Dallas. Those glory days left the building a few years ago. We can find another RB somewhere who has 3.2 yards per carry and has some upside.

It‘s time to say goodbye to Zeke.
The TLDR version:
There is zero room in the NFL for a sentimental roster spot.
Bottom line is that we should be putting that investment in potential...which Zeke's is going down year by year. He wasn't showcased in the preseason because...there's not much to showcase.

Maybe he has one game that reminds you of the ole Zeke, but other than pass blocking and short yardage, he's useless.

What has this team asked him to do?

We will need him later, and we will need him healthy.

He needs more carries.

Or let Rico fumble.

That IS not good.

He doesn’t need more carries. His carries hurt the offense. You need to convert first downs to have the ball. You need to convert first downs to have more offensive plays to give guys more carries.

But when Zeke is averaging 3.2 ypc it makes it harder for the offense to get first downs.

He doesn’t need more carries he just needs to go.

But you do bring up dalvin cook you call him a fumbling machine but even Ezekiel Elliott was called that that one year
If you're going to make me go back and dig it out, I will.

But when this originally came up after signing Cook, I am confident that when I ran the numbers, Cook's fumbles per carry over the last 3 seasons is right at 3X what Zeke's has been.

That's what I call a fumble machine.

Agreed and he should have never been signed. Let's give high miles Cook a look and if he is washed send him packing as well.

I just don’t understand some folks.

All due respect to Zeke. But this situation happens to EVERY RB TO EVER PLAY THE GAME.

Sooner or later they have too many carries on their body and their play falls off a cliff.

It’s not a knock on Zeke. It’s just a reality of life.

I don’t know why some fans can’t just accept it.

In the beginning it was a feel-good story, now it's just painful to watch. Zek ducking for cover on a play on the last Cowboy drive against the Steelers was a real head scratcher...........................
