It's time for Zeke to go

Zeke actually made Dak...otherwise? That first year does not happen.
That is so true. Dak owes Zeke some of that bag. And then we hammered zeke HARD ever since. Guy played hard and injured and helped hide a DISASTEROUS o-line and made Dak the QB he is today.

Then we hate him. Like this thread. What roster spot is zeke taking? None....there's plenty of spots.

We *****ed and moaned when we over use him then *****ing and moaning for under used/

This is an example of unwarranted hate. There will come a time we need zeke later on....bookmark it.

Most of us knew it was unlikely we would resign Tony Pollard last off-season. Many of us hoped Derrick Henry would be on the radar because he would certainly require less than Pollard. But those dreams died quickly amidst all the cap lies the Jones boys fed us all off-season.

When it was announced back in the spring that a washed up Ezekiel Elliott was headed back to Big D to “shore up” a depleted RB position, I believed unless a miracle happened, Zeke wouldn‘t finish the season a member of the Dallas Cowboys. After five regular season games, I think his Cinderella story has become a pumpkin.

In five regular season games so far this year, Zeke has 30 carries for 98 yards, 3.2 yards per carry. He also has 6 receptions for 35 yards, less than 6 yards per catch. Combined, Zeke has 36 touches for 133 yards. That’s 3.7 yards per touch. Ouch.

There is zero room in the NFL for a sentimental roster spot. It‘s time to let Zeke go with thanks for all his glory days in Dallas. Those glory days left the building a few years ago. We can find another RB somewhere who has 3.2 yards per carry and has some upside.

It‘s time to say goodbye to Zeke.
I dont disagree. Hell, they didnt even use him at the goal line last game. I love Zeke and what he has done for the team. He is loved in the lockr room, but this is a cold business. Kareem Hunt was sitting on the couch 2 weeks ago... he had 28 carries last game.

Im not at practice, but the only reason you could justify Zeke is if you think he simply is that valuable as a blocker. But he clearly isnt helping us as a runner, and Dowdle is clearly the back moving forward. There is some young 24 year old back on some practice squad right now that has more to offer.

Zeke is not making any money ...... he has not been a progress stopper ...... and he is not complaining about his role.

People complaining about Zeke have problems with him that have nothing to do with football or the team.
I have no problem at all with Zeke as a person, teammate or football player. I respect all that Zeke has meant to this team over the years. Tip of the cap to him. Nothing personal at all.

But I’m looking at Zeke as if I were the GM, where any personal feelings have to be put aside for what is best for the team. In my opinion we could do better and should. There are three younger, faster and cheaper RBs available on practice squads we could pick up.

Some practice squad guys from other teams who may be worth a look:
  • Jarret Patterson- on Chargers PS- 24, played two years in Washington, avg 4.6 yards per carry last year.
  • Jamar Jefferson-on Lions PS- 24, played in 7 games last year for the lions, avg 4.9 yards per carry, and is probably on ps because the lions are deep at RB.
  • Michael Carter- on Cards PS- 25, has played for the jets and cards and in rookie year with jets had 653 yards. Played 6 games in Ariz last year, averaging 6 yards per carry on 22 carries.
None of the guys above are going to save the season. But they are all younger and fresher than Zeke. And could possibly help more. To me that’s worth a look if it makes the team better.

Our own guys on the practice squad aren't bad.

So you want to replace a good vet, a good cowboy...with nobodys.

This doesn't make any sense.

I can’t completely disagree, but unless and until someone hands the rock to Zeke 20+ times in a game, we’ll never know just how washed he may be. Henry had 10 carries for 27 yards at one point last week. The continuous pounding the defense takes trying to handle a big load like Zeke bears fruit later in the game, but MM simply will not give it to Zeke to see if Zeke can punish the defense. OL play is a factor as well, though we we did run the ball more effectively last week.
Exactly.. the Cowboys are yet again not using Zeke how he should be used. Ironically the blocking they went to in the second half against the Steelers, after averaging like 2.5 ypc in the first half) was far more smash mouth football and it worked waaaaay better. I think it might have worked even better with a more talented back than Rico totin the rock. Namely Zeke. I think when a back like Zeke gets rolling he can wear a defense down and take over a game. Not saying Rico can't do that but he has yet to show that ability. That said he's clearly a solid back. I just think Zeke is better. But if the coaches like what they see out of Rico more than they like what they see from Zeke then the decision is made. Nothing we can do about it but cheer like hell for #23!

Yep, I agree. At this point, let's ride out the season with Zeke, who seems to be a team player and will do what is asked of him without pouting.

Once McCarthy is gone, let's bring in a new OC and a new RB.

There's no need to upset the offensive chemistry in the middle of the season, since the upside is so little (practice squad players from other teams are not going to produce much either).

Show proof no other team inquired.

Come on now is your chance to be a hero you can do it! Show us your proof.
Can you show proof that any team, besides the Cowboys, did?

Surely you can link something from somewhere that Zeke was made an offer by anyone else.

I wanted Zeke gone well before we finally got rid of him. I didn't want him back and I'm 100% in favor of replacing Zeke but Deuce is worse option and for whatever reason Cook doesn't seem to be in the teams plans. Dowdle and Luepke should continue to get their snaps. So Zeke stays as the active backup like last game and getting a few touches a game and doing some pass protecting until we figure out who to replace him with.

Which of our two losses are you saying any of these guys would have prevented?
If so then why aren't they preventing their own teams from losing?
I know the Cowboys have at least one win that Zeke played a major part in getting. And really the only reason he has not had a bigger hand in the other two is usage. I acknowledge he's not producing in the backup role as well as he did in the starting slot. Some guys can do that and some can't. It is what it is. But this notion that he's keep this team from unleashing the next Jim Brown on the league is vastly overplayed. If these kids were so amazing they'd be tearing it up for their current teams not sitting on the practice squad.

And I will always come back to the fact that this team does not appear to WANT Zeke to excel. The last two games he has had nice 5+ yard runs on his first two totes then sent back to the bench for a quarter and a half. He aint built for that. And in that sense you are correct.. that kind of usage pattern is far better suited for a younger back. An older guy standing around on the sidelines that long just stiffens up.

Is McCarthy going somewhere? They will draft a running back and would love to get Ashton Jeanty.
