You ultimately are banking on Lee missing some games, but being available late in the year when it matters.

Lee hasn't made it to the end of a season since 2011.

I think we can all sit around and 'hope' he is there to contribute in the post-season, but it would be idiotic for the coaching staff to realistically plan for that happening.

Ultimately, the major issue with Lee is that he will always flash big time in the regular season but he is unable to contribute beyond that.

I'm not in the 'cut Sean Lee' camp, however, I do think it's fair to ask the hard question whether keeping Sean Lee around for roughly on average the 7-8 games per season he is able to contribute is really worth it.

He's like Bob Sanders for the Colts used to be. Sean Lee for 8-10 games is still better than most LBs for 16 games. I'm just curious what LB behind him is he stopping progress? The only LB in the same discussion with Sean Lee on talent is Ro McClain, who is just as reliable.

I would guess Wilson, but he still is a tad green.

He's great when he can actually get on the field, but I think overall, he he is at best a net neutral part of this team. He is taking away snaps and development from someone else. Obviously, he isn't going anywhere this year, but I say we relegate him to backup and spot duty, and try to find his replacement in the draft.

This...eh...I don't know what this is...???

I wouldn't go that far. But I believe when his contract is up, the Cowboys let him walk.

This makes about as much sense as the naming of the "two girls, one cup" video... And my reaction is the same to this thread as it was to that video, utter disgust...

I almost posted this exact same thread last week...before this latest concussion. You just had to know it was a matter of time before something else was gonna happen. I mean seriously....the guy pulled himself last week because he got a fat lip.

Really????? A LBer getting a fat lip......

Next thing you know Lee is gonna pull himself from a game because he got his beard caught between someones helmet

If I'm reading this right, you are somehow suggesting Sean Lee isn't tough?

Go back to bed in your Kellen Moore jammies.

Good grief

Disagree. There is no one to replace with him. When he is out there I'd take that over anyone else we have.

However, he's turning 30? And with his injury history I hate to say it but we need to see life without lee. I mean we are pretty use to it anyway. :x

Ah the ol Chip Kelly method of cutting talent to be replaced by dreck.

Yes that's a smart move.

Wow! We've got him locked up another five years?

Yea, we re-signed him back in 2013 to a 6 year deal.

This year, if he was cut for whatever reason, he carries a 9.8m dead cap hit.
Next year his dead cap hit is 6.85m but his cap hit is 5.95m.
Two years from now his cap hit balloons up to 9.95m, and his dead cap hit is only 3.9m

So, it's safe to say he'll be on the team through next year before we cut him.

The issue is that when Lee is out of the lineup, it makes things difficult for the backup who hasn't gotten as many reps.

The real value of Lee should be determined by his performance and the performance of his backups when he's out of the lineup. That's what he is really worth. And my guess is that he's nowhere near what his salary is.

I think the best thing that happened to the defense last year was Lee was out for the season early in training camp. They no longer counted on him being in the lineup and could play Hitchens, McClain and Carter instead.
