Her story was finally told on the big screen. That was very satisfying. Warner Bros/DC did what they should have done a long long LONG time ago.
The movie's first half pacing, while sound, was more subdued than I thought it could have been. On one hand, Diana's origin, with one noticeable exception, is plainly and thoroughly told. Moviegoers see her grow from an isolated sheltered princess, to discovering her powerful place in the greater world.
On the other hand, Diana's transition to the greater world is slightly superficially done. Because of that, the movie's pulse doesn't quicken for me until the trench warfare scene and the movie takes off from there. Gal Gadot is truly the star of the film. Everyone else, including Chris Pine, give solid but not really exceptional performances. The "obvious" villains aren't truly deep in character but that's probably intentional on Patty Jenkins' part.
Loved her fight scenes but wished they had given her a bit more combat. I think Jenkins was shooting for a similar feel for Captain America's Howling Commandos with WW's group but their camaraderie isn't as genuine on-screen. In my opinion, she and Trevor could have taken on the Germans by themselves better and the movie wouldn't have skipped a beat. Of course, that would have negated the purpose of The Photo altogether.
A very good movie that's not a great one in my opinion. It really reminds me of
Batman Begins in its feel. Don't know if there is a
The Dark Knight type movie in Wonder Woman's future but a sequel can be better than the original.
