No, Turpin was a first vote starter those are the legit pro-bowl votes. He was not an alternate or replacement. And he was a players All-Pro. Please just let this cutting Turpin thing go cause it makes no sense. Especially with how he’s playing in TC.

“Turpin has been so impressive that he earned Pro Bowl honors – alongside being a part of the All-Pro First Team for the 2022-2023 NFL season.”
https://usflnewsroom.com/news/usfl-mvp-kavontae-turpin-named-to-nfl-all-pro-first-team/

Yet, as I said, statistically, he was middle of the pack.

Go look that up.

Then come back.

Last year, we were just hard up for a returner. So, we went with a middle-of-the-pack player who didn't contribute anything on offense. I hope to see them improve on that front this year and add a player who offers more. Turpin is frail. That last play showed you really don't want him out there, especially when you can add a middle-of-the-pack KR who can also play WR, or another position.

FIrst ballot, 12th ballot, whatever, it doesn't matter since it's a popularity contest voted on by the fans.

His punt return stats were inflated by the defense...

The raw stats you look up on google don’t account for certain return qualifiers. This NFL.com article has a more comprehensive advanced way of breaking these down:

https://www.nfl.com/_amp/2022-nfl-season-s-top-10-return-specialists-keisean-nixon-nyheim-hines-lead

Regardless, what I posted before this shows clearly that the coaches and players around the league know he’s a good player. He’s on a cheap deal and just got those accolades after literally zero offseason. You are wrong if you think he’s going to get cut, just flat out doesn’t make sense with all the evidence.

Your evaluation of Turpin holds no weight when the league and the team have made it clear they feel his talent is tops in what you look for in a returner. All you have is google stats, I’m showing you how his peers and coaches voted for him and how he’s viewed around the league.

He’s on a cheap deal and is performing well in his first training camp. There is absolutely zero indication he’s to be cut. There’s no rule against having two short shifty guys on a team. Just cause Deuce got selected it doesn’t mean it’s an omen on Turpin’s future, not one team source has even indicated so. It’s completely a fan narrative.

You may be right. Just how I see it. I can't call whether he'll be cut or not. I just don't think he offers much outside of being a pretty indecisive ,average returner. I suspect he may make the team and that'll probably keep a player with more talent a brighter future from making the roster. If Turpin makes it, and some of these other players get cut, someone will end up being a better player in time.

I was high on players like Fehoko, Tolbert, Turpin last year. Going into this year, I think we brought in some guys worthy of challenging them all. Although I'll say Turpin has more of a chance based on his experience, and average production. I'm just not going to lie to myself about how good he is because he made the Pro Bowl. That's much easier to do when you wear the star in spite of production. All I'm saying is . . . if we're going on that alone, he probably didn't deserve to be there.

I still think these players have a chance, I guess I'm just more excited about the possibilities of Cropper and Brooks, as players who can contribute on the field. Experience is not on their side, though. We'll see.

They're going to field a good team no matter what.

Turpin won't do anything.

They need to cut him and add player like Brooks and Cropper.
Brooks has good hands but his lack of speed will be a big challenge to overcome.

I saw Kearse lock him up in man coverage a couple of times.

If Brooks can make it through preseason with out getting hurt, I think he makes the team based on what I have seen and heard so far.

I'll go with the top 3.
Man I love Deuce, I really do and I loved the pick but at this point I cannot confidently say he’s going to be someone we can rely on late in games and playoffs to carry the ball in important situations. I mean I really hope so, but cannot say confidently. Same for the rest other than Pollard…JMO

Tough call since he is our returner / gadget player as well
Turp still has to earn this camp, there is no doubt a reason that he is already here, we see the flashes and talent.

Turps biggest hurdle is finding a way to be most effective and expanding his value on this roster.

He needs to beat out at the very least 5th WR to compete.

Lets take a quick look at the depth.

CD
Cooks
Gallup
That is pretty much is set in stone our top 3, if not for something cataclysmic or spectacular occurring.

Turpin
Tolbert
Brooks
IMHO are your next 3.

Figure out who deserves to be stashed crew as follows......

Fehoko
Houston
Drummond
Cropper
Durden
Stephens JR
Barbon
Johnson

Judging from the way Jalen Brooks is progressing in camp, he might actually be useful at some point this season. (I hope.) :flagwave:

People have this obsession with cutting him lol. Once we accept that pro-bowl starters on cheap deals don’t get cut I think we’ll all be a bit more accurate with this 53.

Also, anyone can go to Twitter and type his name in and see days and days of TC highlights. Most team writers say him and Tolbert have been impressive fighting for 4. Don’t see how any of this leads to him getting cut lol.

Dude didn’t even have an off-season last year.

KaVontae Turpin: “Last year, coming from the USFL and not getting to do OTAs and the minicamp, I feel like this year I got to do those things, I feel like I’m ahead of where I need to be at coming from the offensive end. Come in, learn the plays. I just feel like I’m in a wonderful spot right now, coming in and being able to do those two things during the offseason. “This year I’m trying to do everything. All-Pro, anything I can do since I got my rest during this offseason. Coming in here with fresh legs. I just feel like right now, I’m at 100 percent of where I need to be.”

Good stuff. Hard to believe fans already want to cut him.

He is definitely right in that group with Tolbert and Turp at this point.

Turpin Time: The talk in the offseason was to integrate Turpin, the noted return guy, more into the offense. Well now the Cowboys are walking that talk, and the second-year wideout who was the 2022 USFL Offensive Player of the Year is making a huge impression. Not only is Turpin getting open as a wide receiver, but he is catching every ball thrown in his area code. "Right now, you know, just trying to do what I can do. Just let the coaches know they can trust me in the offense. When they put me in position, to show them they can depend on me," Turpin says. So his goal this year is to become the fourth receiver and prove he is more than just a return guy with speed. "I'm just trying to be patient, and whenever those guys need a blow," Turpin says, referring to Lamb, Cooks and Michael Gallup, "then I can go in there for them."

I mentioned Brooks as someone in the mix, a couple of weeks ago.

He has the wing span of someone 6'5. Plays special teams. Has a cool back story.

Only ran a 4.56 at his pro day. And not super big. But if he keeps making plays, he could sneek into that WR5 spot.
