Every year players are cut and fans say they won't clear waivers
I think he will clear waivers and we can sign him back to the PS
He shows some potential but he has a long ways to go and that's what the ps is for

The Jets? Look inside their trophy box and thats all I need to see.

They do have one Super Bowl win, and a QB by the name of Joe Wiley Nammath
In 2012 Jameill Showers was on course to be Texas A&M's starting quarterback. He had been the backup to Ryan Tannehill the previous year, and seemed to have the inside track moving forward. By most accounts he was playing the best of the 3-4 challengers. The mostly unknown Johnny Manziel hadn't had a particularly good summer or camp, and had a legal issue (underage drinking and getting in a fight at Northgate), but Sumlin still went with his gut and chose Manziel to be the starter.

Showers backed up Manziel during his Heisman year, and then ended up transferring to UTEP and finished his 2 years of eligibility there. But take Manziel out of the picture, and I think Showers would've turned into a solid QB in Sumlin's system, and would've been drafted somewhere in the NFL. He's got the potential to be decent, and is worth developing, I think.
Well said indeed.

I would love to do what the Jets did, Smith got them 1st downs when he came in on 3rd and 1 and kept the drive alive.

He is not even listed as a QB he has been listed as a WR. Showers may have the athletic ability to play but I would not waste a QB spot on him.

This kind of thinking baffles and frustrates me. Keep the experienced, subpar quarterback over the promising rookie talent who flashes far better production than mr. experience.

Showers didn't flash "production", he flashed physical skills against the fourth stringers SD had on the field. "Production" isn't something an UDFA QB has ever shown as a rookie and Showers won't be the first.

There are fewer starting caliber QBs in the NFL than starter spots. The job of a backup in the NFL isn't so much to create wins like Romo but to not lose games if you are forced to start them, and Weeden (for all his faults) is by far the best bet to do that. I like Showers and think he earns a PS spot, but if he actually started NFL games this year the team would lose.

At 6' 1" and 230 lbs, can Showers play running back? At the rate the injuries are racking up, he could add that to his special teams efforts too.

I keep thinking about this. Showers in a Slash role where he gets some reps at RB, WR and a lot of Special Teams play - plus serving as the 3rd QB. I like it more the more I think about it.

Even Showers college numbers as a QB were not very good. The guy has some running ability, he was never accurate in college in a pretty soft division. He is pretty much a poor mans Tim Tebow.

Running QBs don't make it in the NFL. How much more proof do you need?

Have you just completely missed the last two SB's? I'm pretty certain that a running QB started in each of the last two SBs.

Do you need a Mike Vick? No, absolutely not.
But someone who can take off and run when it is open? Sure.

You guys seem to have decided that since he ran the ball(twice for 18 yards) that means he takes off and runs any time the pocket isn't there. That simply isn't true.

Vaughan is in year two of staring down his targets, this guy has played one game so far. Let's wait and see how he does the next 3, but so far he looked pretty comfortable stepping into the pocket and only left the pocket on designed bootlegs.

He has shown more in practice and in this game than any other churned developmental quarterback we've had since Romo was on the team.

We need to keep this guy around. Vaughan looks okay, but Showers is dynamic and has a better arm.

Keep him. See if he develops, because if he does he has the potential to be really good, IMO.

He was not accurate in college and is not accurate right now, the QB you are talking about where at least higher drafted QB who were productive in the college ranks. Showers outside of running did not do much even at the college ranks and now all of a sudden at the highest level of football he is going to become a pro QB?

He would need to be extremely valuable in those areas to be an active 3rd QB.

I agree. I think Vaughn had some good throws in the game last night but I think still a long shot that he will become a starting NFL QB.

I think its a long shot he is ever a #2. I think he can last in the NFL the duration of his rookie deal as a #3 be it here or elsewhere, but I think thats it for him. Could parlay that into a HS gig in Texas

Could be, I felt he had a decent night last night, how much more will he develop we will see.
