Jameill Showers Should Make The 53

I was very impressed by Vaughn. He still has a ways to go, but he got virtually zero help (dropped passes and terrible protection from the tackles). He has good pocket presence which may be more important than anything a QB can do. He threw the ball well when he was off balance, he alluded rushers. He uses his height and overhand throwing motion to his advantage to find receivers that most QB's cannot.

Showers showed a strong arm and some athleticism. His ability to play ST is interesting. The only QB's I can think of that have played ST and not punter or returner are Ray Lucas and Jeff Hostetler. I don't remember them giving their team much of an advantage on ST though. But, he's far behind Vaughan as a QB.

I'm not impressed with Weeden. He's got a big arm and that's about it. He showed in the Skins game last year that he can come in and be serviceable and I don't think Vaughan is ready.

I'd like to see Vaughan get a little more time with guys that are going to make the team and get a few deep throws in. But after last night, I would still have him on the team and really think he could develop into a future starter.

This kind of thinking baffles and frustrates me. Keep the experienced, subpar quarterback over the promising rookie talent who flashes far better production than mr. experience.

That thinking is pretty much how the coaches and FO look at them. That is why Weeden was #2 last season.

First game of second preseason - 3 of 11 for 37 yards, no TDs, and 2 INTs

Tony Romo

Some people need time, some people might be right on track. Who knows, its preseason. Stop overreacting to it because for the most part it is nothing like a real game.

He ended the game with 5/11 for 40 yards and a QB rating of 55.
Those numbers need to come way up before we worry about someone claiming him off of waivers.

I see both Vaughn and Showers as projects. Both guys would most likely clear waivers.

Keep in mind 4 of those in completions were drops by his receivers.

I liked what I saw out of showers last night. I know he was going against 3rd and 4th team defensive guys, but he showed poise, quick release, and the ability to improvise when needed. Who does that remind you of? Now I'm not calling Showers the next Romo, but I think we need to cut or trade Weeden and keep Vaughn and Showers on the 53.

He has shown more in practice and in this game than any other churned developmental quarterback we've had since Romo was on the team.

We need to keep this guy around. Vaughan looks okay, but Showers is dynamic and has a better arm.

Keep him. See if he develops, because if he does he has the potential to be really good, IMO.

#ShowerPower

He has potential, but I don't think he's better than Vaughan at this point. Vaughan threw some passes slightly behind receivers thanks to his tackles (Weems, Dill) being turnstiles, but was accurate, fit the ball into some tight spots and made good decisions. Showers also threw the ball well for the most part, but had a couple of questionable decisions where he threw it into coverage.

I think you're underselling Vaughan's work because you like Showers better, but I think we need to see much more of both before deciding. ... I was glad to see that reports of Vaughan's demise had more to do with him choosing to take a month off before camp (because his arm got fatigued last year) than with him stepping back.

All three quarterbacks Dallas put out there showed some good things, which even made me feel a little better about Weeden for the moment.

Showers looked like a borderline practice squad guy.

I was much more impressed with Vaughan tonight. He's still locking on receivers and needs the reps, but he hung in the pocket and threew with some heat. Showed pocket mobility and good athleticism.

Another case of the "undrafted FA showed a little bit of promise in one game, so let's move him up the depth chart, that other guy is old news."

Im not a Weeden fan at all but he looked good throwing the ball.

T.Will looked great as well. I think that guy could have a breakout season as far as receptions. He looked so much smoother out there.

So far I feel the same way I did last year about Vaughan: He shows a lot of potential. Showers showed some, too. So we'll see where it goes from here.

I have not been impressed with Weeden, but he did a good job on his passes in this game.

If anything he looked good in the second quarter. On point with Street, and the potential TD pass to Escobar was nicely thrown, could of been a TD if Escobar didn't have to adjust his route due to the defender.

That pass to Escobar was impressive.

When he locked onto to Escobar, missing Street underneath, I was besides myself... as was Street.

Not a great play. Tough, though, when your tackle doubles up inside and gives his guy a free rush in your face. Had the protection been right, he'd have found the wide open WR.

Yes, Williams was giving him an open target to throw to, which I'm sure helped. Both he and Street seem to have improved this offseason.

I wasn't high on him necessarily last preseason and was surprised they chose to protect him, but I agree. If he plays like that all preseason, he's got anither roster spot and a legit shot to develop.

He looked like a guy who just needs snaps for things to slow down a bit. He's got the tools, and he looks to have the technique and the temperament. It was encouraging.

Yeah, the known quantity is valuable because it's the known quantity? Never mind that all that is known... he's terrible. I think that coaches fire the young guys, just to make the point that they're know it alls, they see something we don't. What are the chances that Brandon Weeden, if released, would ACTUALLY CLEAR WAIVERS? I'm guessing 90-95%.

Matt Moore is a perfect example. He is a quality backup for the Dolphins, enough to start, and I'd feel better if he were #2 for us instead of Brandon Weeden.

Another case of the "undrafted FA showed a little bit of promise in one game, so let's move him up the depth chart, that other guy is old news."

The guy was athletic, for sure. I was a bit distracted at that point in the game, so I need to look at it again, but my impression was that he flew the pocket too quickly several times and then forced the ball into the coverage on whatever side he'd run too. That, and that bad adjustment he/Jenkins made. It looked like Garrett and Linehan both talked to him after that play, so I'm assuming the fault was his for throwing to an adjusted route when the WR ran what he should have.

Can't blame any of the QBs for locking onto Escobar, either, since he's the only one who consistently caught the ball after Street and Williams went out.

Showers had some good plays and wasn't helped by drops. He also had a couple of bad reads and bad throws. I doubt that any scouts from other teams watching his highlights from tonight are chomping at the bit for him to go on the waiver wire. Maybe that changes over the next few weeks? We'll see. But nothing he did tonight was convincing enough for me to move him ahead of Vaughn.

Not saying Vaughn lit it up. But he had some nice throws and one nice drive as well. Actually. He looked more composed then he has before. And he wasn't helped by some poor o-line play either.
Right now we have to hope Romo doesn't go down for more than a few plays. And we start looking for a QB with some real talent this offseason.

yep
