Jameill Showers Should Make The 53

Showers at best makes PS. He will not be taking the place of Weeden or Vaughn

Showers looked ready to run and soon as he got the snap. He wasn't getting past his first read. He has a long ways to go. I mean a looooonnngg ways.

I think the kid looked very athletic and evidently the coaches feel that way to put him on special teams however in my view he has a very long ways to go before I would even think about putting him on the 53 as a QB. Frankly would not even be shocked if he were told to change positions.

Yeah, the known quantity is valuable because it's the known quantity? Never mind that all that is known... he's terrible. I think that coaches fire the young guys, just to make the point that they're know it alls, they see something we don't. What are the chances that Brandon Weeden, if released, would ACTUALLY CLEAR WAIVERS? I'm guessing 90-95%.

Matt Moore is a perfect example. He is a quality backup for the Dolphins, enough to start, and I'd feel better if he were #2 for us instead of Brandon Weeden.

BW or DV if released have 99% chance of being claimed. And quickly IMO. And that is the decision we face.

In 2012 Jameill Showers was on course to be Texas A&M's starting quarterback. He had been the backup to Ryan Tannehill the previous year, and seemed to have the inside track moving forward. By most accounts he was playing the best of the 3-4 challengers. The mostly unknown Johnny Manziel hadn't had a particularly good summer or camp, and had a legal issue (underage drinking and getting in a fight at Northgate), but Sumlin still went with his gut and chose Manziel to be the starter.

Showers backed up Manziel during his Heisman year, and then ended up transferring to UTEP and finished his 2 years of eligibility there. But take Manziel out of the picture, and I think Showers would've turned into a solid QB in Sumlin's system, and would've been drafted somewhere in the NFL. He's got the potential to be decent, and is worth developing, I think.

I really hope Garrett opens up the competition for the 3rd qb spot because Vaughn got 3 qtrs of work while Showers only got 1. I left that game wanting to see a lot more of Showers, I thought he brought some energy and excitement to the game when he was out there. He really reminded me of Russell Wilson out there.

He has shown more in practice and in this game than any other churned developmental quarterback we've had since Romo was on the team.

We need to keep this guy around. Vaughan looks okay, but Showers is dynamic and has a better arm.

Keep him. See if he develops, because if he does he has the potential to be really good, IMO.

Well said indeed Sir !!! Showers was the best QB Dallas had on the field last night. I think people will say I'm crazy but I'm going to say it anyway, Showers should be the #2 QB and could be a third down QB on 3rd and 1. :omg:

Yep I think you are crazy. (not really) I will say if Dallas was serious about Showers as a QB he would not be running down field on special teams. No way Showers is going to be backup

Running QBs don't make it in the NFL. How much more proof do you need?

As I just mentioned how many backup QB in the NFL are on coverage units in the return game? I don't think any team is going to risk a potential QB on special teams.

Well if you remember about 10 years ago the Jets had a QB who played special teams and came in on 3rd and 1 when the #1 QB came out. He also returned kickoffs. Think outside the box.

Yes I remember that and why would I want to do what the Jets are doing? Brad Smith he was also used as a WR and would come in and run option but not never counted on to play the actual position or what is expected from a QB. Sorry I see no way Dallas is going to stick a RB per say as their #2 QB

Shower could make the roster but he is not going to bump Weeden or Vaughn

The Jets? Look inside their trophy box and thats all I need to see.

He stares down his receivers. Last night, he showed no feeling for being able to "look off " coverage. There were two passes that not only could have been, but should have been, picked off. For all the uniqueness he would bring to the Cowboys QB position, it's still all about throwing the football. I see nothing about him in that regard that makes me believe he'll be any better than Vaughan or Weeden.

I did not see the same thing from Showers. He has a lot to show to be more than a practice squad consideration.

I would love to do what the Jets did, Smith got them 1st downs when he came in on 3rd and 1 and kept the drive alive.
