In fact, I'd be actively recruiting coaches who had a 'no-Dak' plan. Number one question would be, how can you get us out of the status quo with Dak at the helm and reinvigorate this franchise? Sean Payton did it with Bo Nix of all people!
THIS!!!! Recruit a Coach that has a plan for both sides of the ball. Get someone that has a plan for IF/When Dak cannot go anymore. Also Whos going to fix the defense and get you back inline.

I am happy for Mike. Sad that Dallas again is a laughingstock. Interested in what’s next. Scared that the future looks really bleak. Dumbfounded that Stephen and Jerry are such cheapskates (modern Bengals right now). Shocked that this organization has turned into the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins in terms of disfunction. Happy that Jerry looks like a schmuck right now.

Can’t believe this is the team I grew up loving. What a joke they have become.

The leader of a 10 billion dollar organization should be paid less than Terrence Steele? Yes he’s worth more. A middling head coach for a generic team is worth more. Some of these guys are weirdly underpaid IMO.

McCarthy was the first Cowboys HC to win 12 games in back-to-back years since Jimmy. And he did it 3 straight. You can’t expect just anyone off the street to top that immediately. Then the answer is Dump him so you can underpay someone else to perform worse? Where is the benefit in that
He did get blown out by SF 2 times and GB for the final killing. $8m seems more than enough for that outcome.

- This is McCarthy telling Jerry to stick it .
JJ was gonna low ball him and sign him @ the deadline.
- McCarthy was frustrated by the end of the season.
- McCarthy was really frustrated by the block on meeting the Bears.
- Bears interest is legit.
- Saints love McCarthy
- Slater thinks Cowboys are in shock at this .
- Multiple players wanted MM back
- MM told staff contract length an issue - puts everyone out of job.
- Lane Kiffin name popping
- Despite the confusion the Dallas job is coveted
- Mike Vrabel asked Jane Slater to introduce him JJ.
- Cowboys are perceived as league leaders in cheapness.
- JJ - Is floating incentive based coaching contract.
- A lot of interviewable guys are blocked off in the playoffs.
- Dak Loves Kellen Moore
- Long process
- Wonders about Pete Carroll
Credible Link please ....?

I agree! You know Denver was paying Wilson's salary this year while he was playing in Pitt. That's gonna hurt Jerry to do that but it would be worth it. Maybe Jerry's plan is to get into the Arch Manning sweepstakes next year. Might as well sacrifice 1 year for 10 good ones.

when did jerry become a cheap skate

i dont get that or was he always like that and i do not remember

cause just a couple year ago he was talking all big about how he would sign a huge huge check if it mean cowboys could win a super bowl
Stephen Jones has a lot more say. He is a cheapskate to the highest degree. We low ball constantly and then pretend we showed our interest and did our due diligence.

This.
There is simply no way this is the same franchise I once walked around puffing out my chest about.

I think Stephen has taken more control than we know. He is completely conservative and a cheap skate. He doesn't want to do anything to disrupt the status quo in Jerry world.

Plus people seem to forget that Jerry was one of the main proponents in the push for a salary cap. He was on top and broke up his own team because he didn't want to pay them.

I imagine the visibility of the Cowboys franchise would get a lot of coaching candidates interested. But I cannot believe many of them would want an incentive based contract unless they get more say in who is on the roster. Imagine signing a deal that pays money for making the playoffs and Jerry sits out free agency again, and stalls signing your top players. What's the bigger inventive for the coach to win, or for Jerry to sandbag the coach so he doesn't have to pay him his incentives? This really is getting like Major League in the NFL.

Always has been. I recall him telling Aikman’s agent, Leigh Steinberg, that Aikman should sign for less for the privilege to wear the Star. Steinberg diplomatically told him to pound sand.

Then there was the Emmitt Smith contract negotiations.

Lane Kiffin...I can see it. Probably the only college candidate that Jerry would consider. Already has NFL ties and probably some familiarity with Monte Kiffin coaching here for a few years. I can see him realizing that he maxed out in CFB and is willing to take a paycut to coach in the NFL again.
Mississippi pays him $9 million per season. Just how much of a pay cut do you think he’d be willing to take? He’s signed through 2030 and gets an automatic one year extension every season he wins seven games, not including a bowl game. Why do people think well paid college coaches would prefer to coach the Dallas Cowboys unless it pays as much, and more importantly, the guaranteed number of years?

Was never the case in prior decades, but obviously sitting out free agency for a decade and low-balling a few free agents gets you that rep.

If Kellen Moore has any self respect, he will stay far away from the Cowboys unless he has a chance to embarrass them from the opposing sideline.
