After a 6-1 start..............we have gone 3-3................need to finish strong and not limp to the finish line.

Most 9-4 teams have arbitrary stretches where they've lost three, or even four games. I don't think that matters much. He obviously isn't going to get consideration at 9-7, so, yeah, I agree we're going to want to finish strong.

All kidding aside, if they win out, he's definitely in the conversation.

To me, Bruce Arians is the Coach of the Year.

His predecessor won 2 division titles and a playoff game in a 3 year span..................Garrett just broke 500 in year 4......................lets see how this season ends before we get the anointing oil out to quote Parcells.

His predecessor was handed an up and coming team and ended up screwing it up in less than 4 years. His cupcake predecessor had a 13 win team that couldn't get past a team in the playoffs they beat twice during the regular season because some of the players were probably still recovering from their trip to Cabo a week earlier that he gave his blessings to. The players quit on his predecessor which is why he ended up being the only HC in Cowboys history to be fired mid season. The team had to be rebuilt after that 6-10 season and if you listened to everyone prior to this season it appeared the Cowboys would be back to 6-10 or worse.

Most of the players the Cowboys are winning with this season weren't around when Garrett took over. Murray and our three #1 picks on the OL weren't around when Garrett took over. Parcells left candy butts with everything in place to be successful and although the team won a couple of division titles and a playoff game he never got as much out of those teams as he should have because they underachieved. The 2014 team has overachieved which is credit to the head coach and their staff.

Don't mention Garret when all is going well, we are winning, and the team is on a high.. this is all due to Linehan, Rod M., the players, Jerry, anyone but Jason…he has no clue just knows how to clap…..
When things are down, we lose, it's ALL Jason's fault….

Given the fact this team was ranked darn near dead last and counted out by virtually ALL national, and even some local, media... does JG deserve to be in the conversation for Coach of the Year? Is he deserving of the award? If the team makes the playoffs? If they win a playoff game? Get to SB and/or win it?

I'm curious what y'all think?

I half serious doubts about JG being coach of the year. maybe coach of the year in the metroplex or coach of the year among NFL coaches in texas but not coach of the year in the NFL.

Nope, maybe his assistants are. Jerry Jones GM of the year? Fair question to ask. He did draft the best o line in the NFL

this is Red's structure and philosophy for running a football team
it's beginning to win games plus as time goes on Red will gain
more and more experience. This team is going to go on a long run
of winning.A good manager allows his people to do their jobs
and get the credit they deserve. His coordinators deserve the credit
and fun their having.

Gotta love how all the people that were on record saying this team would be lucky to win 5 games are demanding 12 wins to consider it a good coaching season.

I don't agree with the sentiment that you need 12 wins to have successful coaching season but we also have to look at the people predicting 11 or 12 wins the last few years and claiming injuries and other issues for not achieving the lofty predictions a lot of people made here

It goes both ways and both of those ways would be wrong

We are 9-7. Let's get to the playoffs and than we can have the debate of a successful coaching season by Garrett

We are certainly heading in the right direction

"Good coaching season" or "coach of the year season"?

Based on expectations going into the year, yes, 9-4 with a banged up QB to this point makes Garrett worthy of discussion for COTY.

note even close. Here are some:

Jim Caldwell - Lions
Mike Pettine - Browns
Chip Kelly - Eagles
Dolphins coach

We have a better record than most of those teams and were Picked by almost everyone to come in last place . What is your reasoning ?

Considering the historic injury situation on defense the last 2 years it's amazing we managed to go 8-8.

This. Exactly. Like everyone on here I was devastated we ended the last three seasons with a loss and just barely missing the playoffs. Well, last year not so much, without Romo we had no chance that last game.

But, it struck me how even with the annihilation of our defense, we still managed to be in the playoff race. I was disappointed but proud we proved so resilient to be in the position we were in at the end.

Garrett certainly has made mistakes - who among us hasn't? He is an exceptionally intelligent human that stuff will go away and be learned from. What I respond to most is his consistent message, passion and commitment to a long term strategy (RKG) like Saban has built in Alabama. These are all big goals and the direction, all but the most jaded fans will recognize, is pointing straight up. That has me pumped up, big time. And that is ALL, 100%, Jason Garrett.

My own take on the question is similar to a few of the comments expressed. Namely, if we get to 11 or 12 wins, make some noise in the playoffs, it would be hard to argue against him being a serious contender... rationally.

However, Bruce Arians with that shocking Cardinals record is equally deserving.
