02? That long ? Wow! Dude please we have fans on here that's been Cowboys fans for over 40 years me included. I've been a fan since 1971 and in the entire time, I have never complained as much as some of you. So yes, once again go root for another team period. If this current team does not fit your liking than I would suggest finding another team to help you enjoying the feelings you seek.

Can we atleast hire like a "clock management" expert? Cuz he really has sucked at it for quite some time.
Yes, unfortunately we do need one if we keep Garrett. The less responsibility we give Garrett the better. This has been proven during his tenure.

This season started getting away from us starting around week 12 with the Commanders. The defense was starting to show cracks at that point giving up 3 TD's on the Commanders final three possessions, causing us to have to hang on. We showed no killer instinct in that game. We could have won that game going away but our defense couldn't keep Washington from scoring when they needed to. The following week we didn't look very good beating Minn and we followed that game up with our second loss to the Giants in a poor performance. We then struggled at home against a Bucs team that didn't make the playoffs. Once the Cowboys locked up a playoff spot you could tell the team was starting to lose it's focus some, we clearly weren't playing the kind of football we saw from weeks 5-10 when we were playing our best football of the season. Against the Lions in week 16 it became apparent we were in shutdown mode looking ahead to the playoffs.

Our defense looked awful in the first half giving up 21 points, before waking up in the second half. We then made the big mistake of mailing in the season finale while the Packers were having to win out to make the playoffs. Like in 2007 we caught a hot team on the rise that needed to win games, while we had cooled down looking ahead to the playoffs. This season had 07 written all over it starting around week 12 with Washington and it was week 14 vs Detroit in 2007 when that Cowboys team started to fade. The 2014 team was playing much better football to close out that season than our 2016 team. We were riding a 4 game winning streak into the playoffs in 2014 after destroying Washington in a meaningless season finale.

Garrett commented he played his starters a lot in that game because he wanted the team to be playing their best football entering the playoffs and we were. It earned us a playoff win and we held the lead on the Packers for much of that game during the divisional round. Garrett clearly didn't have the team ready for the playoffs this season and why he went away from the approach he had in 2014 is beyond me. He obviously must have feared injury and wrapping things up early was the worst thing that could have happened to the 2016 team and I said that weeks ago after we clinched. We became complacent while the Packers became more focused needing to win out to make the playoffs.
Excellent post!!!!!!

Head coach should overrule his coordinators when he sees fit too, I do it all the time. Thats why Garrett was forced to give up play calling and be more of a game manager in the first place. Linehan and Marinelli are older proven coaches, Maybe Garrett is a little intimidated and won't overrule because of it.
Yes sir! If you're a head coach, and you can't over rule your coordinators then you're really not the head coach

I understand your point, but when the game is going on the coaches are talking about the next play before the previous play is even run. That's how they determine subs so quickly. This is the time the head coach can tell the coordinator, if we come up short here we need to run the ball or pass the etc. He doesn't need to be specific about the play if he doesnt want to, but he can determine the flow of the game. If the defense is tired, the HC needs to tell the OC, Hey let's slow it down, pound it a bit and milk some clock so our defense can regroup on the sidelines and vice/versa to the DC. The OC is just thinking about eh offense and the DC is just thinking about the defense. The head coach needs to take care of the offense when t we are on defense and take care of the defense when we are on offense.
I once scouted a game where the defense gave up a 12 play drive but came up with a great goalline stand on the 1 yard line. The offense went in and threw 3 straight incompletions taking about 20 seconds off the clock. Defense right back in. The DC went after the OC on the sidelines. The HC should have never allowed that to happen. Just an example, I'm sure Garrett does these things, its just that like everything else the bad call are always criticized.

If you want to dump the guy, fine. But I would really like to hear some names of who is ready to deal and work with Jerry Jones. I have given 5 names so far:

Jeff Fisher - Based in his head coaching track record, I don't see the team improving under him.
Norv Tuner - A fan favorite because of his time as a OC in Dallas. But his record is as a very good OC, but not a good HC. The offensive version of Wade Phillips. We tried Wade and it didn't work.
Mike Shanahan - Hasn't coached in forever. Risk here is that the game has passed him by.
Sean Peyton - Took N.O. from nowhere to the Super Bowl back down to mediocrity. All that with a Hall of Fame QB. I might by OK with him. Just worried about the defense. Based on the results in N.O., he seems to show little interest on that side of the ball.
Scott Linehan - No success his previous stint as a HC with the Rams. Not sure he would be any better than we already have.

So other than perhaps Peyton, I don't see any saviors here who will work with Jerry.

So I have come up with some names and have struck out. Who else is there that is worth starting over for?

If you are dumping the HC, you need to replace him with somebody, unless we decide to leave to position vacant. It's easy to say dump the coach. It's a little tougher to figure out who yo replace him with. Especially under the current managment structure of the team.
I would dump Garrett like a hot potato and jump on Payton if he is available. Payton has proven he can win with a superstar QB and mediocrity elsewhere. Garrett has only proven to be mediocre. If Garrett follows his history we will be 3 - 13 next year. Now do I think we we actually be 3 - 13, no, but Garrett has proven absolutely nothing during his tenure other than he doesn't know how to manage a game or a game clock when it counts.

Landry was born and raised 30 minutes from my house, I'm undefeated in 4 games in the stadium named after him, I was and still am one of his biggest fans. I was still critical of him toward the end of his career, that's just what most fans do when we are frustrated.
I have been a FB coach for 30 years, I've had my fair share of criticism, it's part of the game. I'm sure Garrett isn't losing any sleep over this thread. It's just a bunch of fans venting.
oh, and no reason to apologize, I'm a big boy. lol
Fair post! Good post

We can run this up to 30 pages, Garrett is here to stay. So all we can do now is hope we get some defensive help, that's it.

How many excuses does Marinelli get? Dude coached us out of the game. Blitzed 3 on the final play of the game, instead of pressuring Rodgers. That's chicken ****.

I have been a fan since 72 and think the OP is 100% correct. Actually, I do not see how any rational person who understands football could see otherwise.

Oooooook, again you are entitled to your opinion but I frankly could care less about it. I'm done with this conversation and the stupidity that comes with it.

Garrett is about to win Coach of the Year, and this thread will look even more stupid than it already does.

I think maybe you're seriously underestimating how stupid it already looks. It's possible we're getting into asymptotic curve territory where sensibility over time is approaching zero. By the time the CotY award comes out, it may not even matter.

Good, please bow out because your stance makes zero sense unless you are Jerry Jones.

Average defense or not 31 points means the offense did enough to not carry the blame for a loss.
You score 31 points in the playoffs and you win most of those games.
Don't forget that 1 drive ended because of a made up 12 man in the huddle call and the other was an Int.
The offense would have needed to score on 7 or 8 of 9 possessions to win that game.

Our just score a TD instead of a FG in the red zone.

If Garrett wins coach of the year, the ones who voted for him are the ones who will look stupid. Sadly for them, I think they voted before Garrett showed us what he was again in the last game.

I only remember you clamoring for Romo to be gone, You got your wish.
I guess through out my "get the hell out Romo" posts, you forgot the ones where I wanted JG out of here. As early as last year. You really should pay more attention since you mysteriously pay attention to my Romo talk.

Actually I do remember a few last year which should have been the start of you realizing Garrett is the issue, not Romo. Maybe you have figured it out, maybe not, but you will soon if we stick with Garrett and you see Dak failing just like Romo. You got a big taste of this just this week.
