Jason Hatcher on what’s different about Washington: The head coach isn’t policing the team

I am just saying that different styles of coaching work for different coaches.

Its not as simplistic as you are making it sound. Those coaches that you named that didn't "police their team" did have success (except for Campo and that was more a talent issue with him).

Garrett should not force himself into one category or the other, he should try to figure out the best way he can coach because what he is currently doing is not working very well and his time is running out.
I never once intimated only one coaching style works. I simply pointed out which styles have worked in Dallas, and other places.

Personally, I don't think it matter as much as some people may think. The big question, the most important of all questions, is do the players buy in? Do they embrace the scheme and believe in it? But, of course, these are not the only factors on rather or not a team will be successful. Clearly, you have to have talent, as well. Furthermore, has the Head Coach surrounded himself with people who understand what the Head Coach wants and know how to implement it (e.g. coordinators)? If I'm not mistaken, both kinds of coaches have had success in the NFL...but a number of other things have to come to fruition in order for them to be successful.
Tell Jason Hatcher. He seems to think Washington is revolutionary.

To paraphrase your "I never claimed Garrett was the next Landry" response...

Where did Hatcher claim anything about what the Skins are doing is revolutionary, or anything close to it?

So not micro-managing things like your veteran players' roommates is "cupcaking"? lol...

Gibbs and Dungy had similar coaching styles. Even Mike Shanahan leaned more towards not micro-managing the players. He was very big on reminding the players that they should be accountable to each other even when away from minicamps and training camp. I would make a guess that Jon Gruden didn't micro-manage his players either, preferring them to own that aspect themselves.

But this is why I asked you to define "policing"...it seems that some (and this may include you) believe "policing" means running demanding camps, demanding the best from players and taking no-nonsense approach when players screw up. None of that is "policing" to me.
I forget we have to educate you fans of lesser teams. The local DFW media donned the nickname "Camp Cupcake" on Wade Phillips. So I chose a word Cowboys fans would immediately understand as an antithesis to "Policing" or "Policeman."

Revolutionary to Hatcher. That means "new."

Actually it means change...as in, he could have experienced something similar in the past at the college level, so experiencing it again wouldn't be "new". But experiencing it from one team to the next would constitute change.

No, I understood...you really think Skins fans weren't aware of the term "Camp Cupcake"? lol...(I preferred "Pizza Party Wade" myself).

But your attempt to lump Gibbs' coaching style under that label was misplaced...

Just like Ware thinks the Broncos are revolutionary, and the other host of ex-Cowboys who also saw the light when they moved on. Nothing new here, same old story...as I said before, the grass is, in fact, always greener on the other side, and it typically stays that way until the player finds new pastures to lie in. See what I did there?

So in the story I posted, what exactly was "taken away"?...That was the only thing mentioned.

Did it not say in what you posted that Smith had a room all to himself but that Marty took it upon himself to select the roommates for players? Meaning no more veterans had rooms by themselves and the coach even picked who the roommate would be? The room all by himself was "taken away." Duh.

If this is the case, their season is over before it began.

I feel they will have a rough year. I think Gruden was a soft hire, Griffin showed his true colors last season and the trade of Jackson is not going to be the boon they think it is.

Jeebus lol...so I'll ask again: So you think allowing established veterans to get their own room is "spoiling and catering to" them?

Sounds more like wishful thinking that objective analysis lol...but I'm not faulting you for it. It's one of the things that makes watching sports as enjoyable as it is.

Why does any discussion with a Skins fan feel like this?

Hatch is still in the honeymoon phase with his new team. Wait 'til it's over.

I wouldn't be too certain about that. Granted, it could go either way, but Griffin is still young and for all we know, last year could have been simply a "sophmore slump" The other thing to consider is regardless of how bad the Commanders may be next year, you can bet they will give the Cowboys problems...they almost always do. Also, the addition of Jackson could create a new wrinkle to that option that could make them extremely dangerous on offense. We did a good job of removing Jackson as a threat last year, but that was largely because we were not afraid of Nick Foles legs. With Griffin, it's a completely different story so who ever is covering Jackson will not have the same help he had when he was an Eagle.

Probably because you have a hard time remembering (or understanding) logical questions when asked lol...

Let's try this:

Me: Marty's micro-managing style was poorly executed...for example, Bruce Smith no longer was allowed to have his own room.
You: Players who were spoiled and catered to tend to get upset when it's taken away from them.
Me: So you think allowing established veterans to get their own room is "spoiling and catering to" them?

Your answer? lol...

I'm sure Washington will do great with it's "veteran leaders" in control of the team, after all, they do have great classy men who are excellent leaders. *ok, that was hard saying with a straight face*

Allen said he felt like there was a constant weight on all the players and coaches in Dallas that making a mistake would get you benched or cut. He feels that pressure can have a negative impact on the team

“That’s not fun for anybody,” Allen said. “…We understand that it’s a business but football is a business. Winning is our business. But if we’re not a team, if we’re not together in it all, then we have nothing.”

I've heard similar things said about Jimmy Johnson, perhaps Garrett has incorporated some of that from his old coach..

Are you guys making fun of Hatcher for being considered a leader, even though he's only been there a week?...

Or are you guys making fun of Jackson because you feel he's already one of the Skins' leaders...even though he's only been there a week?
