Once again trying to deflect
This is not about articulation, this is about competency
A Google search does not allow you to categorically state what the chances of recovery are for Smith when you are not a doctor (let alone an orthopedic surgeon) and have no access to his records

If you can show me a statement by Dr Cooper that "there is a 50-50 chance" that smith will play this year then I will accept it, otherwise you are just blowing hot air to try and look intelligent

I'm addressing what you claimed my motivations were and it's pretty obvious that they are your own. Directily addressing your claims is not a deflection. If you are all over the place blame yourself.

I didn't state "50-50." Speak for yourself. You want to talk about the factual information that I brought up like the synapse reinnervation and what I actually did bring up or do you just want to continue to whinge about me?

Come on, you're trying to be an internet tough guy, be nice to this old guy that just wants to learn for himself :). I am asking what makes so many people think he's special that are fans and don't have access to professional tape or all 22 film. You know that's exactly what I meant and you know it Philly.

So do you have a link, or are you just saying trust the professionals? If so, that's a topic for another day.

I'm fine either way, but it's odd that 22 tape has floated around for other players and from what little I saw during the draft I wasn't exactly over the top impressed, but hey I'm just a fan.

What I do know is that he's well spoken, and from what I've heard he's very smart on and off the field, so I wish him nothing but the best. It would be nice if he could get on the field and Lee and others could stay healthy. This is one of the best examples of risk/reward I've seen in awhile.

My apologies @Cowboy06 I really meant no disrespect.

But I must admit I really have a problem with Internet/Couch scouts. It's not their profession. They don't have the expertise. They don't have access to all the data. They don't have the advantage to review all the game and practice tape. They don't have the advantage of talking to their high school and college coaches. They don't have the advantage of personal individual workouts. They don't have the advantage of personal one on one interviews.

Like I said, Poppinga stated that he was going to be limited in practice. That is what I said not that he was missing practice. That isn't false news even if you don't like it. Maybe you should try harder at reading and you will be less annoyed.

lol, good lord.

lol, good lord.

Go back and read what I wrote and try again. I didn't claim what you said. I realize at this point your ego won't allow you to admit I made a point but its there just the same.

Or are you now going to backtrack and claim that Poppinga never said that? You've already abandoned the 'fully cleared' argument.

I don't think it was justifiable in the 2nd round it was a high 2nd round pick and the Cowboys need immediate defensive help. They can't be waiting around for a season or 2 to see if a nerve is going to fire in a players knee. With the lack of talent we have defensively we're in no position to be taking huge risks on injured players with a premium pick. We should have played it safe and drafted a healthy player who could play this year. Smith may never play at a high level due to that injury and that's too big a risk for a mediocre at best defensive team to take.

No matter who we would've drafted we were not going to get immediate help on the defensive side of the ball. You don't go into a draft expecting to find a second round pick that can come in and have a immediate impact on defense. It just doesn't happen. No matter who we would've took it was going to take time to develop. The best defensive player on this draft was probably Ramsey and he's going to take time to develop especially since people don't even know what position he will play.

There's been plenty of rookies who've made immediate impacts and some were taken later than the second round. Just having a rookie who's able to start is going to help your football team. DLaw who was a second round pick made an impact as a rookie in the playoffs saving the Detroit game with a strip and fumble recovery. A rookie can make an impact while they're developing. All it takes is some solid play by a young player to help your team.

You are the one that came at me telling me how I was misleading people with misinformation. If you cannot take it when I respond and you cannot articulate a justification for such accusations then you should leave me alone.

Run along now.

Too many needs to take that risk. That's why bad teams stay bad. What would NE, GB, Pitt do if they had the 4th?

Good teams don't draft 4th. Or 5th, or 6th. We have, and most the time take your type of approach. It's time to do something different. And we did with our 1st and 2nd Rd picks!!! About time.

Grrrr, now you have to be nice and pleasant. LOL. (just kidding)

Seriously, I know what you meant and I agree with you 100%. I just wonder why the Cowboys seem to take chances with high round draft picks so often. Sooner or later they will cash in, but when?

At the chance of being REALLY stupid here (not a stretch for me) does it seem that Jaylon Smith has an odd tackling style? It's like he's roping steer. It's effective, but I wonder if with his knee and nerve damage if the coaches will have him try a classic tacking style. I did like his coverage from what I saw...albeit it was on Youtube and what few ND games I caught on TV.

There wasn't anything different about the way we used our second round pick we gambled it on an injured player. We've designated our second round picks for TEs we can't use, injured players and drug addicts.

What plenty of rookies have made an immediate impact? Lawrence had a good game against the Lions but I'd hardly consider that an immediate impact on the whole season. We have a bunch of young guys on this team that have potential if that's what you want. We have Tapper. We have Gregory and Lawrence. We have Irving. We are still waiting for Crawford. This defense and team isn't lacking young players on the defensive line. They just lack experience which a second round pick wouldn't have changed.

Well....they've done a decent job of drafting injured players in the second round in Lee and Carter.

Except you don't draft for immediate needs. Ever. You draft for the future.

The hypocrisy is... When Jaylon does come back and is a ProBowl caliber player.. Fans won't even mention Jerry. Certain butt hurt fans only want to beat up on Jerry... The fact is the Cowboys have the 2nd most Lombardi's in the NFL, three of them via Jerrys reign.. Of course, he'll get no credit for that. JJ has done a great many things for the NFL and will unfortunately only be recognized after he's gone. It's sad, bc Jerry would prob give up his fortune to bring a championship back to Dallas, but "so-called" fans only hate the owner of the team they root for.. Ridiculous. Folks always blame Jerry, but never give him credit.

Some hate everything. If they don't get what they want, some has to be blamed. Because life is naturally fair, and if something doesn't go their way, some one did it!

With first and second round picks you draft for now and the future. The NFL is a win now league and the NFL stands for Not For Long for coaches and a lot of players. You can be patient with 3rd round picks and lower but high picks have to start paying dividends soon which is why young highly drafted QBs get thrown to the fire early. Manziel and Brandon Weeden lasted only 2 years in Cleveland because high picks especially QBs have to start performing or it's on to someone else.

A head coaches fate is tied to their QB. With free agency you don't have a lot of time with players so a player has to start showing something soon with all the money some are making with second contracts. At the end of every season 6-8 head coaches get fired time isn't on their side unless they're coaching the Cowboys.

Are you serious? I could list a page full of rookies who've made immediate impacts if I wanted to waste my time. Russell Wilson was a 3rd round pick who made an immediate impact with Seattle leading them to the playoffs in 2012. RG3 made an immediate impact as a rookie in Washington leading them to the playoffs before falling off. Andrew Luck made an immediate impact with the Colts leading them to an 11-5 record and the playoffs as a rookie. Demarco Murray who was a 3rd round pick in 2011 who made an immediate impact with the Cowboys setting a franchise rushing record of 253 yards. He rushed for just over 600 yards in 4 games as a rookie before getting injured.

Tyron Smith made an immediate impact on our OL as a rookie. Frederick made an immediate impact as a rookie on our OL. Zach Martin was the first Cowboys rookie in 45 years to make All-Pro, you don't think he made an impact? C'mon man, open your eyes a lot of rookies make impacts every year for teams. OBJ made an immediate impact for the Giants as a rookie. I could go on and on! DLaw made an impact on our season as a rookie in 2014 despite missing most of camp and half the season with an injury. His strip and fumble recovery vs Detroit saved our season and we advanced. I don't care if it was just one game, it was an important game that had our entire season on the line.

Well....they've done a decent job of drafting injured players in the second round in Lee and Carter.

Although Sean Lee has been a good player he's missed more games than he's played in. The fears about him came true he can't stay healthy which is why teams passed him up in the draft. Our defense hasn't improved any with him. In 2014 he missed the entire season and it was our defense that got us knocked out in the playoffs. He hasn't been available most Decembers because he's always hurt.

He suffered 2 concussions last season and if he suffers another one in 2016 he may be done at 30. As for Bruce Carter can't believe you're bringing him up he was a huge disappointment. He never came close to living up to expectations and was benched for awhile. He was done after 4 seasons with the Cowboys never seeing a second contract with the team. He lasted only one season with Tampa and is now with his 3rd team in 6 years. The guy has been a bust!
