I personally don't think he was/is medically cleared to play. On the off chance that he was, I would guess that a year layoff would have quite an impact on a coach's decision to bring him back. At the very least, he'd have to be eased back in and the team just doesn't have time for that right now. Speculation on my part, of course.

If Smith feels like he can not only return now but play at an elite level and the doctors won't clear him, then either one of them is wrong or the team doctors share the gutless safe space gene with the head coach.

Smith isn't eligible to come off IR. He's technically not on IR. He's on the NFI list, which means that there was a window when the team could activate him or lose him for the season. That window has come and gone.

If anyone's done any research on Jaylon Smith (and you should have if you're a real fan you animal), they know that he's not the type of guy to just completely lie like that. Guy is basically like how everyone wants their son to be, he's a good dude.

I'm going to have some real questions for my wife if my son turns out to be 6" taller and 70 pounds heavier than I am.

Well, and African American.

I think Smith is just feeling optimistic and maybe got a little too exuberant in his tweet. That's just my guess. Bottom line in all of this is that I'd rather good positive stuff be coming out than bad negative stuff...but that's me. I think he'll truly be a go come OTA's. Outside of that, he should just enjoy having the best seat in the house for the playoffs.

Looking forward to seeing him in OTA's.

It would have been unreasonable to expect Smith to make much of an impact at all in the playoffs without any training camp or any real practice.

He needs to start from scratch like any other rookie. So his first playing experience needs to be at OTA's, not in the heat of playoff football. Throwing him out there would have been an irresponsible move by the coaches, assuming he was even allowed to play. Which he is not.

He was on the NFI, moved off it and eventually placed on IR. At least that's my understanding.

Because the only defensive player we have that is somewhat playing at an elite level is Sean Lee.
I think Lee is playing at more than a somewhat elite level. When he isnt out there, more bad things seem to happen.

Welp, he must think his rookie contract wont be his only one. Gave the parents a couple nice gifts for the holiday.

Jaylon Smith signed a $6.49 million contract with the Cowboys. Smith received $4.52 million in guaranteed salary including a $2.923 million signing bonus.

Are those Cadillacs? Probably not too bad spending wise if that's all he is giving away.

How about we traded the 34th pick in 2016 for the 5th pick in 2017????
Not exactly. You get the 5th pick in 2017, but you can only sign the guy for 3 years, instead of 4 with a 5th-year option.

Why not the ghost of Kevin Sweeney as long as your going the bad QB route?
