4 years? What kind of ceiling do they think this guy has? 2 years is a stretch. 4 years sounds a bit over the top. Waiting for the numbers.

I have no idea what the numbers are, but no matter how reasonable of a deal it is, some will say that we overpaid. I think at worst he will continue to be a very good special teamer, with a lot of potential for upside. I could see him being a lot more than just a special teamer who is only fit for emergency relief on defense. He has skills and is athletic.
This signing might also signal and solidify that one or more of Church/Wilcox are on borrowed time.

If they signed him with a very small signing bonus, what does it matter what the deal is? He could be cut with very little cap implications if he doesn't perform anyway. If they gave him a significant signing bonus, then the team sees a bright future for him. Maybe it would turn out to be right.

Then there is those who are saying this is what all NFL teams do, 4 years isn't a big deal.
A contract extension is a reward. It means the team views you as someone that they want to keep around. There was no pressure to sign him now. They rewarded him for his "stellar" play and once again, are rewarding mediocrity, which is what this once great franchise has become, perfectly mediocre.
But if you aren't standing up, clapping, and cheering right now, you're a bad fan.

And ironically, they're the first to claim that someone else is "whining" or "crying"

Or just maybe they are locking in a guy that they view as "on the rise" and save future labor costs, and future cap room. The did that with Scandrick, and that turned out pretty well for the team. This isn't an exact science, but the team obviously viewed it as a good deal, or they wouldn't have done it.

His pro day numbers were impressive. 4.49 40, 37" vert, 6.88 3 cone, 10'6" broad jump. The Cowboys have been trying to collect players with good measurables.
So, maybe the coaches feel he could finally "get it" as a player. At worst, we have a reliable ST player. We could also have a long term development player in Heath who may grow into a solid depth player. Athletically he is up there. His reaction and adapting to the speed of the NFL was lacking, as expected from a D2 player.

Also, I don't think that you have to applaud the move or that be failing to do so that it makes you some sort of fair weather fan. I think it is fair to be critical of the team. But there are some (I'm not sure if it includes you) who criticize everything the Cowboys do. The Cowboys are not right all the time either, (which some fans seem to think they are) which is equally annoying from my point of view.
But if someone is so jaded at the Cowboys that they think that the Cowboys do EVERYTHING wrong, then why are they fans of the team at all???

Scandrick had shown far more talent than Heath has or ever will. I get it, it's a gamble. Heath was under contract for another year, no rush to extend him. Frederick? Absolutely. Heath? No need at all. He's easily replaced.

Agreed.
I think if you were to look at the so-called negative posters, you would see some posts where they like a player, move, decision.
Then, if you look at the Fan Boys, you will see only positive posts. No critical posts. One Admin actually posted that "whoever we draft is the best choice" and the draft is still 2 plus weeks away.
Except the greatest Fan Boy of all times. He actually posts his dislike of a player or coach once he's gone. Stop Trashing Our Players in one post and I'd punch Dave Campo in the face in the next.
