it usually takes him half the season to get into shape. I guess he can be a player/coach again?
Right? Don’t know why they didn't sign him over a month ago. We could use the depth, now with Tyler gimpy and the main backups both rookies. He’s a Texas native, he prolly would love to come back aboard even to be just a backup.

They entered the season with OL depth as a huge problem (and Jerry is right now admitting it's a concern) and a 5th rounder, an UDFA and a vet minimum contract is your solution to solving the problem? Come on
We have a choice between Bass and Richards to start at guard if Tyler cannot go. I don't know what you expect. I think that both have a legit shot to play. It's not ideal but they had a full TC and a whole lot of preseason playing time.

I do not think it is going to be a trainwreck but it would seriously diminish the talent. Power and scheme knowledge obviously.

I think that Bass is the better guard but that is not because Richards didn't play well. I just like Bass at 325 over Richards at 306.

Look at the Giants. They are starting straight up a 4th rounder compensatory at RG. He has been hurt the past two years missing all of 2021 and half of 2022. Their other guard is an undrafted journeyman. If they sustain an injury they are in much more dire straits than we are.

Washington is in worse shape with tackle questions entering the picture.

Even the Eagles have issues at guard after losing a starter.

Dalton Risner is still available. Sign him after week 1 on a 1 year prove it deal.
Well, what Jerry really meant is that he doesn't feel good about our OL depth with no good vets available who'll play for $1 million.

All is on hold on a veteran until after their first game, any way.

People are underestimating how much of a gem that Bass and Asim are
Yes, but are they polished or diamonds in the rough? I mean, Steele has turned into a pretty good RT, but there were a lot of bad moments when he was thrown out there as a rookie.

I’m not going to say Bass and/or Richards won’t be players and won’t trash them. That’s not the point. The point is when you have a weakness you go out and get a decent free agent or spend a high draft pick to try and solve it. There are never guarantees but to have an UDFA step up and be able to play would require some luck First off the player has to even pick your team and if the team felt they could be that player you can be darned sure they would have just drafted them even if it meant trading back into the draft to get him. a similar amount of luck is required with a veteran minimum free agent and a 3rd day draft pick.

here is the point. Jerry himself is stating (just like every one of us) the depth is an issue. you and I couldn’t do anything about it. he could have and still could if he, like he is saying, sees it as an issue. Those other teams don’t have a Tyron Smith who will no way play every game And when free agency and the draft took place Steele was not 100% going to be ready to start the year. On the other teams you mentioned, let’s compare what they did. The Eagles had the best OL in the league and drafted a 2nd rounder who is on the bench backing up. The giants drafted an OL in the 2nd round as well. Washington drafted an OL in the 3rd round. Washington also signed 4 free agents on the OL Including 2 starters. So every other team you mentioned did a lot more than us to help their OL including using a prime pick on the OL. Also, none of those teams have the $18M in cap space that we do.

They spent it on the dtackle. They were either going to go with Smith or an olineman. They couldn't do both.

I think it’s just mostly the weight room for both of them. Both guys keep their feet insanely well.

The way TJ combo blocks and pivots guys is…rare. At risk of sounding like I’m in love with the guy, he has some of the best feet I’ve seen for a guard coming out of college. He’s so active and yet there is almost 0 wasted movement. It’s hilarious watching him and then immediately watching Hoffman, who moves just as much but 90% of it is just wasted dancing.

Asim reminds me a lot of Steele in year 2 when he wasn’t awesome but was surprisingly good. His athleticism is good enough to get you through games at LT if Tyron goes down. He needs to do whatever off-season program Steele does, and I think he’s going to surprise people

Who said anything about just the 1st round pick? They had multiple picks and also could have signed a free agent.
