Jerry: I feel very good about roster but would like to have more OL depth

Is Boston the same offense that Dallas now has? A power but slow blocker inside won't help against the Dallas defense.
I’ve seen quotes on McGovern saying he’s getting totally different coaching up there but not sure how different from what we do now with Solari

Every team struggles with numbers as far as quality offensive linemen go, get used to it. If they become good they either start for you or they go somewhere else for a huge contract ... it is what it is. The real protection for a team from OL injuries is an upper tier offensive line coach.

That is one of the sneaky reasons the Patriots were able to dominate for as long as they did, good offensive line play on the cheap.

I see some suggesting we draft OL depth in rounds 1-3. Are y’all crazy? You want to draft a guy who hopefully won’t play in the first three rounds? You want to spend day 1/2 picks on depth?

What do y’all think this is lol. You can’t draft 8 OL in the top 3 rounds guys. At some point mid/late round guys have to be developed, like Steele and Biadisz. Richards and Bass seem to be on their way.
We drafted depth at DT, TE and LB this year... Why not a OL that has the potential to start as our line is aging... That exactly how we got here... we missed on both Conner's in previous draft that created this issue..

Round 2 or 3 I wouldn't have minded. Especially with Tyrons health. They would both be late in the round picks. All depends on who was available, and Torrance isnt the guy.

Going in you likely had a long term hole at LG. With Richards or Bass we likely plugged that anyways

They added 2 rookies and 2 veterans. They signed Martin and Steele. What exactly were they supposed to do?
Pretend it matters and dedicate some resources to getting better. Who did they add show they see how important it is? They added a day 3 draft pick and some UDFAs and the veterans are Edoga making the veteran minimum and who else? Stop blindly defending everything. It's either important or it isn't and you don't get better that way without a lot of luck

They drafted Richards, and signed Bass and Edoga. Then of course he has consistently drafted oline in the top 100 for years.

I don't see how you can make this claim.

At the end of the day, OL scarcity is real. Reading draft guides you can see after the first few rounds the talent level drops. We have been outstanding in finding late round gems like Biadasz and Steele but most teams cannot even start 5 players at the standards you guys set.
They entered the season with OL depth as a huge problem (and Jerry is right now admitting it's a concern) and a 5th rounder, an UDFA and a vet minimum contract is your solution to solving the problem? Come on

In a draft that makes sense for that, like when we took McGovern who was BPA.

Not in a weak draft like this when the team clearly didn’t have many true G’s they valued high.

All three of those guys would’ve/will definitely play snaps. TE2 in this offense gets ample snaps. Mazi will play as well. Overshown would’ve had a role.

We didn’t miss on the Conners just like we aren’t missing on Biadisz. Just because the player Isn’t an All-Pro doesn’t mean they’re a miss. CWill starter for 4 years at a solid level and is one of the better C’s in football with Miami. McGovern just signed a good deal to start in Buffalo. You can’t re-sign everyone.

In a weak IOL draft there was no reason to reach on a guy for need that the team didn’t see fit. You draft the player you like based on grade and need combined, can’t throw grade out the window.

Oh FFS, now you are including a practice squad player with us solving the issue? I can't even comprehend a person trying to make that argument
The argument was when a person said they did nothing. I just listed what they did. Do you have a problem?

No. The person was me. I said they did "almost nothing". You tried to trash that statement throughout this thread and your argument was them using a 3rd day pick, a few UDFAs, a vet minimum type contract and a guy we signed to our practice squad. That is the definition of "almost nothing" when you knew all offseason you needed to shore up the OL depth and especially when only an insane person would expect Tyron to play every game and when our RT was coming off major knee surgery.
