I'd say a running back who averages a whopping 25 touches per game should hold out to get paid. Why risk injury and extra wear and tear when you can sit 10 games and still accrue another season toward free agency?
If you're not Elliott, who's already got a suspension history on top of a history of off-field distractions that invite another suspension. But he is. So now he's an incredibly talented player at a position teams rarely overpay whose nearest market comp (Gurley) is on what's widely considered to be a terrible contract. He's a suspension away from a lifetime ban from the league (depending on the offense), and he's going to pull a move that makes him look like a selfish teammate for a club that actually has a chance to contend? How many teams are going to sign up for that to a tune that's sweeter than what Dallas has already put on the table? I don't think many would.
