If you're not Elliott, who's already got a suspension history on top of a history of off-field distractions that invite another suspension. But he is. So now he's an incredibly talented player at a position teams rarely overpay whose nearest market comp (Gurley) is on what's widely considered to be a terrible contract. He's a suspension away from a lifetime ban from the league (depending on the offense), and he's going to pull a move that makes him look like a selfish teammate for a club that actually has a chance to contend? How many teams are going to sign up for that to a tune that's sweeter than what Dallas has already put on the table? I don't think many would.

If he was to get indefinitely suspended would that void his contract or our we still on the hook? Serious question.

Ohhhhhhhh....so the O line does have something to do with his production? Huh.

So what happened in the Houston game last year? (for the record, this is the second game now).

Haha same thing happened. And i never said the Oline doesnt have anything to do with it. Of course it does. Zeke is an elite RB. Thats all Im trying to say

Actually this is the time that Zeke has the most leverage name another time that he will have more then now.

That's true. But he's still a guy who's got ~1k carries on him and a strike against him with the league. At that RB position where nobody really wants to overpay.

If he's in the Gurley neighborhood with an offer from Dallas, he really should consider it. I understand why he wants more than that (better player, and it's been a couple of years), but it's tough to imagine getting a much bigger deal than, say, Bell just got from the Jets.

"Never tell anyone outside the family what you're thinking." - The Godfather

It's too bad Jerry and Son are so eager to talk to media they can't abide by this sound advice. They announce to the world that Gurley money is where "it starts" with Zeke then they're shocked when he holds out 6 months later. Idiots.
It’s why I’ve argued for years now that wearing the owners and GM hat is often a conflict of interest for Cowboys Football.

He should be. Jerry stood by him and went to bat for him, then this. Elliott just isn't very sharp or is getting bad advice from his agent. Having Jerry in his corner Zeke would've been well taken care of at some point.

I think the bolded part is quite obvious, all things considered. He is pulling this crap days after barely skating by on the shove incident. Unbelievable.

Actually this is the time that Zeke has the most leverage name another time that he will have more then now.

What leverage? He has 2 years left on his contract. The Cowboys have ALL of the leverage here. The line appears to be the healthiest it has been in a while, with some decent depth. Anyone can run behind these guys.

I think a suspended player is on pause. They don't get paid, they don't count against the cap, don't take a roster spot, and they don't run time off their contracts.

Yeah I was thinking about it and even if he was suspended a season and then applied for and was reinstated we'd still be on the hook for whatever remaining years were on the deal. Unless we had a clause that voided the remaining years.

He'd effectively put us in limbo. It's a difficult situation to plan around.

Most teams that win the Super Bowl either have an elite quarterback or an elite defense which one of those do we have?
I’d say we’ll have an elite defense if we don’t blow our cap on unnecessary resources (ie Zeke). We need a QB, doesn’t have to be elite, that’s been proven. We need a good O line, have that. We already have a very good defense, I think we’re very close to being elite. Sign Zeke and that takes a lot of that hope away.

I've not seen any numbers anywhere as of yet,but it's been hinted as to being comparable to whatever the Hell that Doofus #21is snivelling on about.

I think I'm not going to be happy with the contract. The Gurley contract was bad. Sounds like we're doing it up again, but worse.

I couldn’t give a crap if he leads the league in rushing.

More importantly I believe we’re a run dependent offense and most importantly without a prolific passing QB reliant on an Elite RB to keep defenses honest.
Die...give Moore a chance. Most offenses aren’t as simplistic and one dimensional as Linehan. You have Linehan Stockholm syndrome, you’re scared of being without Zeke because we WERE so reliant on him but history shows SB winning teams don’t need a top paid, diva RB to succeed.

Hard to take reports like this as legitimate, but when Jerry starts talking in the media, it's usually pretty easy to see if it's his tail wagging or if he's baring his teeth.

I still don't get what Elliott thinks he's doing here. He's got not leverage, will have to report, and it just makes him look like a malcontent on top of being a player with little judgement at a position where careers are short. Makes no sense.

Except the Cowboys are having the negotiation, and Stephen said Gurley's contract is a floor.

Apparently Elliot has enough leverage. Maybe he's got a portable movie screen outside Jerry's house playing the first two games of the 93 season.

And why his trade value is limited.

Elliott is the beast we’ve inherited and helped create.. He’s our problem we must figure out how to manage. Not many teams will want his baggage and willing to ante up with his history.

I’d begin my inserting clauses to protect against further suspensions with either payback for signing bonus or pro rate the signing bonuses.

We don’t have to offer a long time contract. If he wants paid now. Then pay him now with a year by year deal pending his production and availability. Put it back on him . If he plays and produces we will pay him accordingly.

Its a tough one. I believe as role models and over payed ball players they should be held to a high standard.. but if super bowls is what you want then look at the 90s cowboys. Zeke has nothing on them. Thank god social media was not around then!!!
Micheal Irvin would have been a x-con if they had social media back then.

But you always claim how smart he is, a smart player wouldn’t sign that.

The Fan reported that Jerry was completed caught off guard by the Zeke holdout and is severely ticked off.

They pointed to the amount of support the team had given settle in numerous off-field issues, including perhaps some we don't know about.

This could get pretty ugly.

Very true -- Jerry went to grips with Goodell, enough so to get himself in trouble with the League. Not difficult to see why he's pissed. Ezekiel should wisely have waited until next year to get his "piece of the pie." The timing of this thing for putting the team in this position really stinks. It's just a selfish act.
