Which is why I made the thread that I wrote. I'm particularly annoyed that we have a roster that can compete IF Jerry would have the guts to take a chance on player(s) that would excite the team and can move the needle. He's going to blow a golden opportunity to earn even more opportunity by winning a championship if he doesn't act soon. Parsons and Lamb will not be here forever. I wouldn't blame them if they want to go elsewhere when their contracts are finished.
Jones knows how to blow opportunities. 2016 comes to mind.

Remember. You are never wrong if you know you are the best at what you do. And someone else is always responsible for shortcomings, not you.

Philly had a big need in improving there secondary and went out and got an All Pro. We really not even gonna do a Hankins level trade to shore up RB or CB? We deserve our inevitable Divisional round loss if thats how we run the team.
Yep. Good front offices improve their teams. But our front office is also the ownership, so they have much more on their plate that is more important. Also got to schedule all the year around events at the stadium. Making money is obviously the most important thing for owners. So they will focus on that more than measly front office moves.

I'm just not sure why we went out and made that big move in 2018 to get Cooper while we had a losing record and looked dead vs trying to strengthen a 4-2 team who is still very much alive. To at the very least, keep pace with what the Eagles and Niners have did. And after we saw how weak we looked against SF, we need to beef up this team.

And don't tell me the draft picks are too valuable to lose, you can get really good players for mid round picks, something this team isn't good at anyways.

Oh, I'm sure he doesn't. And he will prove it again if he doesn't do anything at the deadline. I just have concern that the likes of Parsons and Lamb, who have higher aspirations, will opt not to stay here. What does Jerry do then? Assuming he's still alive when that happens. He can't take his wealth with him when he dies.
Jerry always pays his guys well so if they're just looking for money and don't really care about contending for a SB maybe they'll stay, then we can just add them to the long list of all-pro players wasted by this organization over the last few decades.

Or they sign elsewhere like you said -- in that case, Jerry will have excuses ready to explain why it's not his fault, that he did everything he could to keep them here. The stadium will still be full because most fans are gullible, nothing will change. It's sad but it's what the future holds for this team as long as Jerry and his moron son are in charge.

It is AMAZING....AMAZING...how naïve this fanbase is. In fact, Jerry was probably amazed at one point...but when he realized that he can establish the richest NFL franchise without having to win....that set us on the course we've been on for over 25 years!!!

He's changed his approach ONCE over the past 25+ years...when he turned the football team over to a REAL football man (Bill Parcells)....and ADMITTED he was not having any fun...so he "ran" Parcells out of town. Does Jerry want to win? I guess. Does Jerry want to have fun and be the primary architect of this franchise? You better believe it. If we win in the process, great! If not, oh well.....we made lot's of money and most importantly, we did it MY way!!!!!
and the Mike Fishers of the world are perfectly ok with it. Fans are immaterial. Golden parachutes are real. Just listen to these gullible team reporters talk and u realize they been saying the same things for 27 years, and we keep getting had every time. They are getting rich cranking out the hype whilst they realize this team isn't elite and that's fine by them, as long as they win just enuff to be in the news cycle. Winning is in the eye of the beholder.

Then perhaps he should let McClay try to make trades work. He can still take the credit. But it's annoying seeing our rivals make moves to fix their weaknesses during the season, and Jerry stares thinking.....well, who knows....he is also probably just counting his billions while we are frustrated seeing what could have been if we could at least take a chance once in a while.
Teams aren’t going to talk to Mcclay bc they know he’s not the decision maker. These GMs all know each other and have working relationships. The cowboys are frozen out of these relationships bc we don’t have a GM.

I sincerely hope that Stephen Jones will get a GM when Jerry dies.

Yes, and, this is rhetorical, what are the Joneses going to do when they run out of new Cowboys fans? I think I'm likely among the last generation of Cowboys fans. I think a lot of people my age and younger are going to pick different teams. I'll always stay with the Cowboys as I'm so far in with the Cowboys. However, I could see a lot of current Cowboys fans my age jumping ship and others my age scoffing off the Cowboys. What will the Joneses do when there are no more Cowboys fans?

I don’t take this in a negative way. Teams often call other teams … by this you don’t get taken to the woodshed as they are more desperate by calling you. It’s smart business.

With that being said, with our current roster, I still see this team as the 3rd/4th best team in the NFC. Lions and 49er had some stinkers and the Eagles are the Eagles.
We are just finishing an off-season where the Cowboys probably made the two biggest impact trades of any team in football.

But suddenly that same front office....a few months later doesn't know how to be proactive and get players to help.

You realize how you sound right?

Mike Fisher and Mickey Spagnola school of Journalism has a mantra which is: "sit down shut up, let the cake bake, and you will either learn to like it or leave." Thats been the message. Its a real arrogance at the star/Dallas. Its tangible. They got so big they don't value the fans much. In this league, arrogance will beat you.

So Jerrah is waiting for another team to call that wants to make them better? Is this what read out of this? I can promise you there is no team out there thinking how can I make the Dallas Cowboys better.

How about letting the season play out. If they win the next 2 games. They will be in very good position.

The Titans would. Keep an eye on Henry.

Does Jerry think he's a girl at a prom? This is ridiculous.

It's bs like this and how the organization is run that makes me want to stop watching football.

I'm not a fan of this approach because sometimes you don't know what a team might be willing to accept if you don't ask. But I'm sure the approach here is if teams come to us looking to unload a player, we can get him for cheaper than if we ask about trading for a player.

It is sad, though, that Jones talks about not being sure the team belongs on the same field with San Fran and Philly, and then pretty much says we're not proactively trying to do anything about that.

Right but that’s where the disconnect is….I don’t believe they aren’t proactively making calls. I think they are but he doesn’t say that publicly. I think Jerry just talks to talk most of the time and depending on the day and his mood is the answer you get publicly.

If he says we are making calls daily by the hour and trades don’t get done for us he will be made fun of for that, if he says we aren’t pro actively looking but are willing to listen - like he did he gets flamed for that. It’s a literal lose lose situation. If he makes a deal to make a deal and overpays - he’s torched again for that.

I don’t believe for a second they haven’t made calls and I don’t understand why fans do.

This actually isn't a bad comment from a strategical standpoint. It says that the Cowboys are willing to consider trades, but it keeps alive the reality that the negotiation is more favorable if the other team comes to them wanting to make a deal.

I agree with your assessment. Which then begs the question- Why is Jerry even talking at all? What is the purpose? How does it help this team for him to be talking in any capacity?
