This is a move a part time lazy GM would make.

Why spend the time and energy to go through the coaching hire process when you can just extend the one you have.

I doubt Big Mike is coming back, but McCarthy is a known quantity to Jerry. He isnt looking for a home run hire. Other than Parcells, JJ has never looked for a HR hire since Jimmy.

Jerry wants a yes man and someone he is comfortable with. Why try and find another when he already has that?

If you want significant changes in this organization, you better be hoping to lose every game left on the schedule, otherwise Jerry will use the injuries as an excuse to bring the band back again....

Even if that happens and Jerry doesnt bring Mike back, he isnt going to try and make a splash hire or have himself and Stephen step back.
As long as Jerry is involved its just rearranging the deck furniture.

He should simply say that this subject isn't something the team is prepared to discuss at this point in time.
