IIRC, Tex Schram was ready to hire Jimmy but couldn't bring himself to fire his friend Tom, jeri was most likely influenced by Schram to hire Jimmy and apparently Bum hated Landry and part of selling to jeri included Tom getting fired
Correct! Bum took the lowest bid from Jerry since he knew Jerry would fire Tom.

He is a great business man and owner, as a gm he has been a failure.
Yes
as a GM your right as an owner who has helped bring NFL football back to Houston and now Los Angles as well as other contributions that have been very profitable to the league it is a no brainer that Jerry would make the HOF as a owner
And we're happy about this because why???

This thread is hilarious, suddenly everyone cares a whole bunch who goes in. Three Superbowls, Billion dollar stadium, most valuable franchise, praised as a hero in LA, put him in while he can still make the speech.

If that were only the case. People who never played don't understand...you have to work...and be in football shape..to avoid injury. All this 1/2 motion/ thud practices..all it does is invite injury. You have to seperate the men from the boys...and Jerry has continued for 20+ years fail to grasp this concept.

And every formal player with CTE totally disagrees with you as do their loved ones that has to deal with them. The human body wasn't made to play football and it had to change. That's not Jerry's fault, it's the result of all the effects that this game has on human beings.

After watching the movie "Concussion", and you really could call it a documentary, I totally understand why they are trying to make football safer before it becomes nonexitenced.

This from a guy that has loved this game for well over 45 years!

And by the way, it is estimated that 90% of people that plays the game will suffer from CTE!

How does that translate to wins on the feild?

You do realize that wins and losses are not the only way to get into the Hall, right? Contributions to the game are what most owners that have gone in for, Jones will be the same.

Jerry Jones HOF..I can see it. The most influential owner in the last 20 years. Jerry brought innovative marketing ideals that most teams use to this day.

He has taken the leadship NFL franchise and has completely turned it into the NFL laughing stock. We don't practice hard. Players know they have it made if they just tow the party line and say all the right sound bites. Camp cupcake never left...

Less not forget this is now 22 years..(and running) of a poorly run orginazation that hasn't even come close to getting back to the Super Bowl?

How is that HOF worthy?????

O.K. I can only stand so much ignorance before I speak up. Jerry Jones has single-handedly changed the way that the NFL markets itself and it's brand. There wasn't even a concept of selling naming rights to your stadium until Jones did it (and fought the league to do it). That ONE single thing has generated, literally, billions of dollars into the NFL economy. He didn't stop there. He went ahead and named the rights to the field, itself. He helped spearhead selling game rights to ESPN (which started as a a Sunday Night Football and parlayed into a much more lucrative Minday Night Football deal). Ditto for not only the NFL Network, Sirius NFL Radio, and the NFL Sunday Ticket (which was originally conceived by Jones to be a Cowboys only ala carte deal broadcast on a Dallas Cowboys nationwide network and the league jumped in to get their cut of the idea and the pie). He spearheaded the way for owners to generate revenue beyond what the league was allowing them to do beforehand (he sued the league to get it done and won opening the gates for every other franchise to generate their own revenue streams).

This nomination has absolutely nothing to do with the success of the Dallas Cowboys, so you can take your butthurt and slam it up where the sun doesn't shine. It's the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not Floaty's Shallow Shrine of Pity. Jones has been THE leader of the pack when it comes to growing this league's popularity, marketability, and exposure. Every single owner that builds a 1B+ stadium, every fantasy football league business that generates millions upon millions of dollars a WEEK, and every UFA that signs a multi year multi million dollar deal needs to thank the lord for the opportunity, thank their momma for giving them birth, and then promptly attach their lips to the *** of Jerry Jones because his vision and leadership made it it worth billions more than it would have ever been without him.

Your whinefest changes absolutely nothing about any of that.

So your signing off on Jerry's greed as a good thing....hmmm ok. To each their own I guess. Enjoy paying 85.00$ for your parking space @ Jerryworld.. And when you buy that 12.00$ beer....don't forget to toast Jerry. He would appreciate it. Just remember when the average fan can't afford to go to a game....You can blame it all on Jerry for his "ingenuity" to make a buck.

This is incorrect.

The Patriots sold the naming rights to their original stadium when it was built in Foxboro in 1971. The rights were sold to the Schaefer Brewery, and the stadium was named Schaefer Stadium.

Jones didn't sell a naming right to a stadium until 2013.

This is also incorrect. Jones never sold the rights to a playing field. ESPN began broadcasting the NFL on Sundays in 1987 - a year and a half before Jones was in the NFL. I don't think that Jones had anything more to do with NFLN, Sirius NFL Radio or Sunday Ticket than owners such as Art Modell and Pat Bowlen, who were also on the TV Committee. Jones does deserve credit for moving the NFL to Fox, though.

He spearheaded the way for owners to generate revenue beyond what the league was allowing them to do beforehand (he sued the league to get it done and won opening the gates for every other franchise to generate their own revenue streams).

I agree with this. Jones revolutionized monetizing ones local market, and expanding revenue streams that can work in parallel with the shared monies of the league. He was a trendsetter there, no question.

I also don't think that this warrants being in the HOF.

I stand corrected on the Patriots naming rights and ESPN startup (He did however help put the clamps on ABC and every other network forcing ESPN to up the ante for Monday Night Football. And, for the sake of honesty, who do think was banging the table on the television committee? Modell? Bowlen? Come on .

However you couldn't possibly be more wrong about when and how Jones sold the naming rights to the stadium and field. Texas Stadium was actually Pepsi Stadium and the playing field was Nike Field LONG before Jerry World was built (I want to say it was in 93-94 maybe?).
