Jerry is the cause of all this. He is the one who hires lameduck coaches that the players don't respect. He's the one who signs malcontents like Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson. He's the one who had some of the worst drafts in NFL history for the better part of the late 90's and early 2000's. He's the one who has fostered this culture here that the buck stops at his desk and that the head coach is nothing more than a puppet. He's the one who ran off three of the all-time coaching greats in NFL history.

He is the worst "GM" in the league and it isn't even close. It's no coincidence that the farther away from the Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells-led teams we got, the worse the teams got. The worse the drafts got. The worse the coaching got. The dumber the moves got (think we would have traded nearly half our draft to get Roy Williams with Parcells here? Hell no).

Bad management seeps down through the coaching staff and to the players. Good management fosters good coaching and thus, good football being played on the field. It's no secret that the perennial great teams in the NFL right now (New England, Indianapolis, etc) all have great people in charge in the front office that are good football people and also know what lines not to cross in regards to coaching. All you have to do is look at what Miami has done in ONE YEAR under Parcells/Ireland/Sparano. These teams don't have idiot tyrants like Jerry Jones running the show and they never will.

Until the same can be said here, nothing will change.

Actually, I'm not. I just have the audacity to disagree with the masses calling for something that has no chance of happening.

You know, Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and over again, and expecting the results to change.

yet you are the Admin of a place where that is allowed and kind of encouraged

you should read "Boys Will Be Boys"

Jerry's reaction to Jimmy always snubbing him was hilarious, it was like Al Gore in South Park, "why doesn't he listen to me!"

I haven't read that yet, but I've heard about it.

I have read many accounts of those years and it is quite comical how Jerry wanted so badly to be one of the football guys.

Of course once he finally took it all over he took that dynasty and drove it into the ground in a few short years. Then had to come begging a football guru to clean up his mess. But since BP only got us back from the dregs to the playoffs Jerry deemed it a failure and now he's back large-and-in-charge again on the verge of running it into the ground again.

Which boiled down to who had final say and thus final credit.

and that was Jerry wanting more of the latter

Jimmy pretty much laughed in Jerry's face, or outright overrode his suggestions

I didn't say the main contributor. Unlike some I don't put all praise or blame in one basket and hop around saying "I have eggs, I have eggs." I leave that to the kids at Easter and wait until the wife makes deviled eggs from them.

When you say he's the GM with three SB rings it basically implies he's the main contributor. But I'm sure you just throw that out there hoping to cause a stir because we all know it was only a title back then with Jimmy doing all the heavy lifting.

Bill put together that scouting department. The last one Jerry built was headed up by Larry Lacewell.
That is incorrect. Bill got here in 2003. Look up the scouting department and see their tenure.

I'll give you the last drafts were good, but also will note that last year the Chiefs were noted as having the hands down best overall draft, and that GM just got fired this season.
No he didn't. He resigned and/or retired.

He has an advantage that he is the only GM who is also the owner with a huge checkbook. He doesn't need approval to an extra million or two for anybody from someone else paying the bills.
Which I contend is an advantage.

I have a hard time believing that if Jerry wasn't the owner and was just a GM he would still be employed here after the past 13 years. I sincerely believe almost no GM could have survived the utter disastrous ending of this season and the way it is being handled internally, including keeping what everyone knows is a lame duck coach for one more year.
yeah, well that is a pipe dream that is not in touch with reality. Excuse me if I prefer to operate in the real world. I don't even play Madden.

Really who cares at this point. Jones still had final say on personnel matters during that time. Even if Johnson wouldn't listen to Jones, Jones could and did still overrule him.

That was the whole argument of the anti's: that Jones had no say in the Johnson years which is just false.

I didn't say never the GM. That's your hollow strawman claim.

Really? If not now, when? You totally punted on Brain's sensible and direct question regarding Jerry's marketability as GM, so start answering questions like a man and spare me your "strawman" putdowns.

millen has had the same success as Jerry the last 13 years = no playoff wins

we got a lot of star players and ticket sellers but not 1 playoff win
Oh geez, I did not know this. All of my studies of the History of the Dallas Cowboys, all those hours shot to hell.

Duh.

An actual contribution would be welcome. Try it.

read "Boys Will Be Boys"

a book made up of team employees from those days, tells a completely different story about the relationship

I think it was 500, but who's counting? Jerry's arrogance knows no end.

No one said that. Jones just rubberstamped Johnsons decisions, except for once or twice - which he stated himself.

And he wasn't kidding. He aimed for #499 and #500.

My friend told me to read this book and I just ordered it.

Even the comments on Amazon are hilarious, can't wait to get it.

Throw a ton of cash at Scott Pioli.

What's your solution, wait another 14 years to see if Jerry ever gets it? That sounds pretty sure fire too.
I will be honest with you. If we could get Scott Pioli or Bill Polian I would be overjoyed. I think they are two of the very best. I'd even consider our chief of scouting Tom Ciskowski a good gamble.

I'm not saying Jerry is the best. I am saying his contributions as GM are not the issue with this team. Jerry gone as GM does not mean everything is fixed. That kind of Pollyanna thinking is what I am speaking out against.

It sure would go along way though. Just hiring a good HC and giving him full control over his staff and building team chemistry while removing the ongoing circus would be a huge step in the right direction. One in which Jerry refuses to make.

Funny you mention that, since Jerry keeps doing the same old thing and here we are hoping for something different than another year added to the last 13 where we end up with no playoff win.
Funny how you and bbgun and a few others keep thinking that we don't get that and that you harping on it is going to magically drive Jerry away.

They're coming to take him away ho ho, he he, ha ha, to the funny farm where like is beautiful all the time and I can see those men in their clean white shirts and they're coming to take me awaaaaaaaaaaay.
