Jerry, on ESPN, says Ware may not be back next season

This is the best answer although not the only one.
Jerry's posturing- no question.
I'm excited to see the outcome of this!
I honestly believe how they deal with Ware right now will be very telling of how they want to deal with the team's immediate future.

Yes, but they wouldn't have room for any free agents.

Dallas can get to 5-7m under the cap without dealing with Ware. That's more than enough to sign a couple big FAs. Then after Ware, Austin and Orton are dealt with, they can get up to another 10-13m.

Well, I think the team needs to be blown up and completely rebuilt. So I'd be for getting rid of Ware.

However, the team isn't thinking that way. They want to compete next year. I don't know how you let Ware go if that's the case.

I guess the second the guy stops cranking out double digit sack seasons he's useless.

Susy Kolber asked him directly about Ware and Jerry made the analogy of getting off his plane when he first bought the team and driving around in a five year old Ford Bronco. Said he couldn't have the plane if he wasn't driving the Bronco because you can't have it all.

On a side note, I wish he would have bought a really expensive car and a really, really cheap plane.

You couldn't sign a couple of significant free agents with that 5-7 million. You have to sign your rookie class. You need some money going into the year for the flexibility to make other signings if need be.

14 sacks and 60 tackles that year. Whatever you gotta tell yourself.

the dallas cowboys lost that game vs the giants in the 07 playoffs. the was part of the dallas cowboys. ware is one of favorite players but he gets a pass from the fan base way to easy.

Yep. I definitely took it as Ware likely isn't coming back, also.

Remember though who it is that's talking! It could be that Jerry is trying to negotiate through the media or he has something up his sleeve. When Jerry's lips are moving it doesn't mean a thing. Usually his statements can be taken several different ways depending upon the interpretation of the listener. I used to think he had a problem staying focused and in articulating his thoughts. Now I think he is a genius. He has the ability to talk all day and then everybody that heard him will leave with a different message.

Exactly. It sounds like we won't be a big player in free agency with the cap issue anyway. I just hope no one gets up for it thinking we will sign any big name players.

I think the strategy will be "keep our own."

Personally, I think Ware would fit better in NE, SF, or Denver at this point in his career anyway. They have the opportunity of getting to the big dance to use as a tool to get him there for less money. I can see him taking 5 to 7 million to be with a team that has the opportunity to play deep into the playoffs. And he would not have to be a one man wrecking crew like he's been here for years.

Wrong. The initial 5-7m covers a couple big FAs if they choose(Melton, Joseph, Byrd, Hardy, Bennett, Hatcher)
Then they deal with Ware and get another 7-9m.
Then Austin is a June 1st cut and they get another 5.5m.
If Orton retires or is cut is that another 3.5m.
Rookies cost less than 2m to sign(rule of 51).
Still money to extend Dez and TSmith and sign some camp vets that are cut
There is no problem working the cap, for the 1,000,000th time.

IMO the biggest factor in releasing Ware would be basically clearing 17 mil off the cap in 2015. As of right now Dallas is 4,494,523 over the cap, cutting Ware Dallas would then be 13,009,227 under the cap. Of course it will go down some because of the restructures dallas will do this yr. But they will be out of this cap hell mess with 1 cut.

I think jerry finally learning his lesson, if he goes thru with cutting Ware.

I think you may be a bit too harsh on the guy- he looked terrific at the beginning of last season, but I get where you're coming from.
BUT- 2 mill a year? C'mon. Ain't happening, my brotha from anotha mutha.

Frankly...if I may be Frank. He is of more value to this team to just cut him now. It's clean and the baton will be passed. Not to Selvie lol but to the entire new group. Marinelli has this team. Lett has this line. New players will fill in and all will play better than the 2013 Demarcus ware. Cap hit kills us keeping him. And next season would be even more to digest. Two million is the highest he deserves. And I do understand he will not take 2 m il.

Ware has to take a big paycut if he wants to stay here/

That damn Jerry. If Ware leaves, it's all his fault. If Ware stays... you guessed it - all Jerry's fault. LOL

Seriously though, IMHO, if Ware is cut; it's for the best for this franchise. Don't disappoint Jerry!

1 cut.

Is there a simpler way to be out of hell?

If they have to take a 8.5m cap hit either way, I would rather keep Ware as a contributor. They can still draft DL heavy, but Ware can still be an asset. This is predicated on him taking a major pay cut of course.
