I won't be at all shocked with this. I also think we'll get Markus Monk.

Oh but just imagine on draft day how many people around here would be upset that we drafted a FB not named Owen Schmitt, lol. I think there's a good chance we go after Monk late too though.

I do know that they are very pleased with the progress of the kid from Hampton who was on the Practice Squad last year, Alonzo Coleman.

This is just a theory but we know they are going to let Julius walk. Make Barber the feature back (promising him this might make a contract easier to get done soon).

Then, unless someone unexpectedly falls into our laps they can draft a RB very late or as an UDFA (someone like Rodney Kinlaw from Penn State). Then let Thompson, Coleman, and Kinlaw fight for the final 2 roster spots.

I have been wondering about this guy lately.

Hostile, if you don't mind me asking, how do you know the coaching staff is happy with his progress?

I haven't been able to find any information in that regard.

Any info will be much appriciated.

I don't know, I'm starting to doubt we draft a FB at all. If Jerry won't even take an OL player in the 1st round, why's he gonna draft FB's two years in a row?

We're drafting McFadden, and any and everything Jerry says at this point is pure and utter smoke screen. Stop drinking the generic kool aid- it's for everyone else, not the Cowboy fans. Does nobody know our owner by now yet?
And what makes you think you do, junior?

I am Owen Schmitt's biggest fan here. I am not so in love with him that I can't be happy with Hillis. Either guy is fine with me. Hester from LSU would be fine with me. I just think Schmitt is the perfect compliment to Barber. We'd hurt people. I like that.

Umm because he went to Arkansas? Duh.

Really, if we drafted Hillis I don't think it would be in a pure FB roll, I think he could be on the roster as both the third RB and either the backup or starting FB. Drafting him would provide depth at two positions. Plus, he's versatile in terms of blocking, running or receiving. He'd just be a player who would add quite a bit to the team.

You're going to be one very sad, and likely even less frequent poster than you are now, when that prediction blows up in your face.

I read something about him towards the end of last year. I forget who the author was. It might have been a Mick's Mail but I honestly am not sure. There was some serious thought given to bringing him up for the last game to see what he could do. He almost made the team out of Training Camp as it was. He might have if not for an injury. The competition between him and the RB from Houston was pretty fierce.

If I had to bet on 3 RBs on the active roster next year it would be Barber, a draft pick, and Coleman. My example kid Kinlaw could be a Practice Squad grooming or could push Coleman for the 3rd spot.

I just have a feeling we're not going to go big splash on RB in this draft because we want Barber to be the guy. If a guy falls, fine, we'll take value if it is there. The McFadden ideas are all wet. Never happen unless he drops like a stone.

this statement is intiguing for all the possibilities that may lie under his words for what the Boys will do as MB's backup next year...if not drafting one of the blue chippers in this years draft (and assuming not picking up a 'cheap cut' from another team ala Dashaun Foster), than maybe converting Deon Anderson or Stanback to RB or something along those lines?...
thoughts?

Where did he say this at? I'd like to hear/read the entire interview it came from.

Oh no.

Mick is also the same guy that proclaimed Julius Jones should be the starter, that Barber could be the second coming of Troy Hambrick, that Tyson Thompson would be part of a three pronged running attack as good as any in the league and recently that Zach Thomas would be a bad addition because he doesn't fit the scheme and is too old to contribute.

I would not be upset if Dallas just stayed with Deon Anderson.

Me either, at this point if we're not drafting Owen (who I only like cause Hostile got me pumped about his ferocity and athleticism) I'd rather see us take a different position, we've got other holes that could use the help.

Yeah, I don't keep a scorecard on writer's opinions and grade their value of information upon how much they are right or wrong. So this literally means nothing to me.

I also said "I honestly don't know" who the author was.

In addition to replacing Julius, we should add another RB to replace Thompson who does not impress me at all.

If Owen is there in day 2 then I would jump on him and don't be surprised if he does last until day 2 because FB is not a position that teams have been going after then days

With all the talent at RB in the draft, it would be a mistake to not take a RB, especially early in the draft. There is nothing wrong with having 2 really good running backs. If you don't spend a pick on a running back what are you going to spend it on? Another kick returner? More developmental players?

That is what scares me about Jerry, he will probably try to get cute, and start making trades that don't need to be made, and wind up with lesser players. There's not a lot of holes on the team, and RB is one of the few. Picking a good RB or two in the draft is a good problem to have.

Everyone is so touchy recently, is this how it always is around here during the off season? :laugh2:

I don't keep a scorecard either, we just all know how much of a homer Mick is, he always thinks our roster is perfect and doesn't want to change a thing so IF it was him, it'd make perfect sense he'd rather pump up a guy on the practice squad than admit we may have to get someone else.

I listen to Talkin' Cowboys regularly, so I've heard him deem every possible trade or acquisition proposal as being silly and ridiculous only to see the Cowboys make the move anyway. I remember he bashed Tank up until the moment we signed him, I'm interested to see how he back peddles on Zach Thomas now that he's a Cowboy.

I'm not touchy, just honest. Mickey's opinions have never offended me. Just like poster's opinions. We all have them.

There's a huge difference between his opinions and his tips about what the team is considering.

People will never forgive Mickey for 2 things, IMO. His opinions of Hutch and Q, and his "if he's so good why is he available" mantra. Neither bother me in the elast. Those are his opinions. I don't need a writer to agree with me to appreciate his contributions. Never have.

What would shock me is if Parcells wanted to send Ronnie Brown here for a cheap price.

Heh... That thought occurred to me, too.

But really, when I read what Jerry said, my first thought was free agency, and to me that would mean Michael Turner. There sure has been a lot of smoke both last year and this that Wade really likes him. Everyone assumes that Turner will get blown away by offers this year in FA, but I'm not sure he will. And if he doesn't, I could see us going after him as a proven commodity.
