Jerry says roster spot waiting for Brent

Intergrity? Do you really believe that anyone in our front office gives a damn about Josh Brent the human being? Or that we would even be considering doing this if our DL wasn't a disaster area?

As a fan my belief is nothing more than my opinion. They could have very easily cut bait last year and never looked back. At that time the line boasted a healthy Ware, Spencer, and Hatcher. So if your asking me, yeah I am proud in the fact they stood by this man when in all accounts he needed the support. That to me shows integrity outside of this game we all follow.

The article gives more detail than the headlines.

Thursday will be Brent's meeting with Goodell. I hope this stays to a football topic, but I'm sure other stuff will be posted.

I have mixed opinions on this still, of bringing Brent back. Strictly from a football perspective. Can he really help the team, and would creating a roster spot be good. It's certainly good for Brent, but what about the team.

I'm not sure Brent would help this DL, but others and the coaches know more than I, and at times think it's best he sits out a year before returning. Which may happen if he is suspended before being eligible to return. I'm all for him to continue his NFL career, but may be best for another team.

If they create a roster spot, I hope becuase they truly believe he can help this team, and not just for sake of a support thing.

After Ray Rice's 2-game suspension, I imagine Goodell's sanctions on Brent will be no drinking coca-cola for 4 weeks and no bad words during training camp plus a promotional appearance for a car that does not go over 40 mph.

I have my opinions on the right and wrong of this morally, but I'll keep it football related. Why on Earth would we be keeping a roster spot open for a guy who hasn't played in over a year? A guy who wasn't exactly Randy White in his prime to begin with? Why not just say "we're open to giving him a tryout," or something more along those lines?

I totally agree wif you.

My guess is Jerra was talking after Happy Hour at the Diamond Q.

If nothing else, Brent's return to football represents an effective part of his rehab.
He's bearing an incredible burden of guilt, as well as other internal demons.
I wish him well.

Sorry but I just happen to think his psychological recovery and his football chances for a successful comeback are different topics.

Likely many who support Brent weren't so supportive of Stallworth or Little.

I know Leonard Little has made a few appearances in "most disliked player" threads.

It is what it is. People support him because he plays for Dallas.

Yep and if he goofs up again they will hate him again. It is what it is.

If he replaces Hayden and is able to garnish double teams than I'm all for him coming back. Besides, people do make mistakes in life and everyone does deserve a second chance.

I just don't understand this Brent situation. This is a waste of time and energy. If Jerry wanted a DT he should have not traded up in the second round and stayed put to select Timmy Jernigan.

For Jerry to still welcome Brent back shows how desperate this team needs a DT.

Would love to have Jernigan here but I think we needed a passrushing DE like Lawrence most of all.

I'd be shocked if that weren't the case, frankly. And I'm not necessarily saying that's a good thing. But I do think this is very much more than a football decision. Frankly, I'm not sure how much Brent helps us this season, anyway.

On a related topic, if he didn't have a history here, I also think we'd be taking a look at him for purely football reasons. But we wouldn't have an owner publicly saying we'd be making room on the 90 man roster for him. We'd just be having our proscouts take a look to see what they thought of how he fits in relative to our roster.

Do we really need to have another ethical discussion about this guy?

I'd much rather hear about the football aspect of his life. But if that's where it's going then keep it within the guidelines please.

JMO but I don't believe this whole Brent issue has one thing to do with the current status of the Cowboys DL. This was going to happen regardless.

That doesn't make me feel real great about the people making those decisions for our team. If he can help us win I am all for him being here as I will be for any player. To add him to the roster because you feel some weird sense of loyalty is an issue. I am sure he would have to make the team on his own accord or at least I hope so.

This is true, but also how different is it to have had a roster spot for a player from a reality show. Who actullay did help us at times come to think of it.

But serumously, now that Roger the genus half given Ray Rice a 2 game suspension, that might be the bar. Kill someone, um, maybe a THREE game suspension. Take da chronic, um FOUR game suspension. Beat up someone at a night club, TWO game suspension.
It will be interesting what Roger can now do, now that his ridiculously low suspension half been set on Rice.
He's locked himself into a several-game mode and his "suspensions" will be under the telescope.

That bothered me too but we were entertained

and which young guy do we cut to make room for him?:mad::mad: I do NOT like this thought process!

I don't, either.

I choose to believe our pro scouts have already graded Brent and that that grade was higher than the grades we have for at least one of the DTs currently on the roster.

The franchise will survive if we sign Brent and cut rookie Long Snapper candidate Casey Krieter? THE DEUCE YOU SAY!!!!
