I never said they didn't need anybody at all around them.

Except they are all surrounded by talent or at the very least far more talent than the Cowboys surround their QB with. The Rams was overwhelming loaded at WR and have a very good TE and have a good OLine. The Buccs had the best 1-2 WR group in the NFL, possibly the GOAT TE, and again a better OLine. The Packers had the best WR in football. The Chiefs had Hill and Kelce and again a very good OLine (the one time their Ts got injured they could not do anything).

To win in the NFL you get your QB and you surround him with a great OLine and top weapons because there are about 12-16 Super Bowl caliber QBs in the NFL so if you want to be more than mediocre you need to both get one of them and then surround them with talent or you will lose to the team that does. Every single one of the contenders has managed to do it, even though most are paying their QBs at this point, so if the Cowboys want to contend they have to do it as well because otherwise they will lose to teams that are.

The problem is evaluation and too much importance placed on the skill positions with money.

On point CC, this is where the experienced and knowledgeable FO earn their keep....managing and evaluating the talent around them and knowing who to pay and who to get rid of. This is where these two fail the test if that is their excuse. The buck stops somewhere....and I am sure the Jones' know where.

Dak has had talent around him but outside of 2016, when he was a rookie and no rookie has ever made it past a conference title game and that was Ben and he was terrible those playoffs, other teams have had more. Tyron Smith was a former all pro but the last time he was all pro was said rookie year. Martin was for sure a beast but the rest of the line slowly deteriorated and while that was going on so did the RB room. The fact that you cited 900 yards or 56 yards per game is proof of that. You might as well have said "the starting RB did not get injured" as proof of talent because 56 yards per game is pathetic.

Lets just demonstrate this simply. When in the past 3 years would you have said Dallas was a top 3 in the NFC, or top 5 in the NFL, in terms of offensive weaponry? Such a time does not exist. We can make the same claim for the past 3 years about OLine which has regressed over the past 6 years from top tier in the NFL to above average to average to poor. We can also go a step further and say that last year was the first time in years Dallas had an average defense.

Yes the Cowboys have talented players but the problem is other teams have more. We have 9 40 million dollar QBs. I would say the Packers have worse weapons and the Buccs possibly a worse or equal OLine (due to injury on their part) but outside of that for all 8 non Dallas ones I would say they have better weapons and protection so the question remains: why can these other teams surround their teams with talent but the Cowboys cannot? It cannot be the QB because the other 40 million dollar QB teams are doing it. It is not even a lack of cap space because the Cowboys have a LOT of cap space.

There’s a false equivalency here that high paid QB’s pull average rosters and make the teams great. You need a good team any way you slice it.

It doesn’t exist since this is a 22 man game. You need a good team to be successful. Hoping your QB is going to do it all and make you a champion just because he’s paid market value makes absolutely no sense.

Why fans absolve GM’s of all responsibility to manipulate the cap and put together a contender is beyond me.

All those Manning and Brady (the two best of the passing generation) teams that were dominant were filled with HOFers and elite coaching.

That’s why Polian and Belichek are so respected. It’s a game of three phases; on field performance, coaching, and player acquisition. Sadly, the Cowboys haven’t had all three since the 90’s. That’s no fault of Dak’s for being paid market value, that’s structural and organizational failure.
