Yep, but he wasn't traded to the Bronco's. He was pretty much the same situation as Romo. Injured and released by the Colts. Colts got nada out of Peyton going to the Broncos. Ditto when Favre was released by the Packers.

You can't compare the Manning or Favre situations with Romo and the Cowboys at all. Those situations were completely different.

Manning had four neck surgeries between 2011 and 2012. The Colts were faced with having to pay him a $28M bonus in the first day of the league year, and at that point, he hadn't thrown a football in over a year. He wasn't capable of throwing a ball at that point. If a team were to trade for him, they would have had to assume that same bonus as well as his base salary for the year, and had no guarantee that he would have been able to play again. If you remember, the Broncos signed him without working him out. It was a huge risk, but it worked out. The Colts, though, had no market for him due to the injury and the contract.

Favre retired from the Packers in February of 2008. He decided in May that he wanted to play again. He wanted to go back to the Packers, and wanted his starting job back. He ended up going to camp with the Packers, and wanted to either have his job back, or be released. The Packers traded him to the Jets instead.

Neither of those situations resemble Romo's at all. Romo, at this time, is healthy and capable of working out for teams. He has no looming roster bonus, and his base salary is very reasonable for a starting QB in the league. He hasn't jerked the Cowboys around like Favre did the Packers. The Cowboys are punting their cap relief until June - this fact alone makes it asinine that they are cutting him so soon.

No fault, no blame, nobody done no wrong
That's just the way it sometimes goes
Sometimes two people just don't get along
It's time to hit the road
Goodbye, farewell, so long, vaya con dios
Good luck, wish you well, take it slow.
Easy come girl, easy go.

You left out the part where we save $54m over the next 3 years.
Yes and that will help in 2 years. I think when dust settles after FA and draft, The Boys will not be a better team than in 2016. Guess we will see in about 7 weeks.

The team didn't trade Tony for this simple reason: there were no trading partners willing to assume the risk of an injury-riddled soon-to-be 37 year old QB

So your position is that Old man Romo won't play in Houston or Denver?
Hmmmm. No one wants him? Not even draft-pick rich Cleveland?

No we can restructure now to use the money.

And of course you don't think we are going to improve. Your handle is a study in irony.

He wasn't able to trade Romo cause he never really tried in the correct manner.

If Andy Dalton does a Kellen Moore, whose to say what they would give us this fall. Or any number of teams.

Jerry just gave up, quitter.....doesn't quit drinking though.

Cleveland is rebuilding. What's the point?

Of course he makes sense for a couple of teams...if the price is right. Clearly $14 mil base plus draft picks was too rich a price tag.

We don't need the June 1 money to resign Martin. That's a myth. He won't be signed until next year and if we took the whole Romo hit now, it would be an even better cap situation.

Huh? The whole point of extending a player early is you don't let them whiff the sweet aroma of free agency. The closer he gets to that freedom the more leverage you give him and his agent.

No, my brother, Cleveland is a slam dunk for both teams!!!

It's quite possible we won't be a better team in 2017. Maybe, maybe not.

I do like how the window opens up in '18 and '19. You want a sustainable plan like the Patriots have.
